  1. It's been 3 years. I have Culver's locally, so no loss for me. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  2. I wonder if the restraints have to do with NJ requirements? Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  3. Culvers closed before the park did. ;(
  4. ^I didn't see any trains in the FOF building during the 2018 Coasterstock tour.
  5. I'm just extrapolating here. I kind of hope nothing is there because I want to enjoy the beginning of this season and all it has to offer before all the drama of speculation begins. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  6. ^So, by extension, if the poster was correct that the NOC is filed after plans are approved, the permits/paperwork should be available by whatever protocol the local governing body has in place.
  7. If something is presented before a city committee, I would think it would be a matter of public record.
  8. OK, so I am not in the building/construction industry, but...A person above stated that a NOC has to be filed to inform the local government that work has begun on a project(s) that have previously been approved by their departments. If this is the case, wouldn't the plans for whatever is going to be done on file? It's not like the park can go to the city and say, "Hey, we are going to build a roller coaster, we will file our NOC when we are ready to begin!" Also, I would think a NOC would cover the years listed. They don't have to file a NOT (Notice of Termination) do they?
  9. I think the first time I rode The Beast was in 1981 or 1982; I rode The Beastie in 1980 and it scared me to death, but I managed to ride The Racer the same day. But since my first ride, it has always been a favorite, even as a non-enthusiast. The Beast and Kings Island are responsible for me becoming obsessed. Mid-May 2014, a friend and I visited. We usually went once a year, but had skipped a few years because we went on a Saturday Haunt--not knowing the ins and outs back then, we were disgusted and vowed to never go again because of the experience. We got two-day tickets at Kroger, planned our days. The first day, it was cold, damp and rainy. Many of the things we did, we literally were the only people on the ride/attraction/eatery. And the associates were stellar. I knew they had to be cold, wet and miserable, but they smiled and genuinely seemed like they wanted us to have a good time. This was when every transaction was completed with "Have a FUN day!" My friend doesn't ride The Beast, so I got introduced to solo riding, and rerides....and rerides....and rerides...I think I rode 15 times that day! The next day was a little warmer and less damp, but several buses were in the parking lot for field trips. We went for a few hours, then she introduced me to Jungle Jims, we went to IKEA and a late lunch at Olive Garden and parted ways. She lives in Dayton, I live in Kentucky, so I decided to go back to the park! I rode The Beast several more times that day. I upgraded my ticket to a Gold Pass and got a dining plan. I haven't looked back since then. Riding The Beast several times in a row hooked me. My friend and I still go at least once a year; but we try to do Haunt on a Friday night. This year, we did New Years Eve at WinterFest and had a blast. She is a Disney gal and she said WinterFest was on par with her Disney holiday experience.
  10. Holiday World, Kentucky Kingdom and Cedar Point are parks and are relatively close to KI. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  11. Which commandment is " Whatever you do, don't go in the shed?" Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  12. As of last year, with a platinum pass, you can get a FLP at a FL price. If you don't have platinum, it might be worth it to upgrade if you're doing a two day trip...plus you may just love it enough to go back again this year! Lodging...in May you can usually get a pretty cheap rate at CP Express. There are plenty of cheap but good motels in Sandusky too. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  13. Maybe someone in the Cincinnati area could answer this: why does this news station have updates about Kings Island in the consumer advocate "don't waste your money" segment? Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  14. And the above post is why I love Kings Island. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  15. I was an arborist before my current career as an RN. The linden trees on IS were probably at the end of their expected life. The probably had root systems that had grown into the grassy area around the Royal Fountain as it was easier to get water and nutrients from an irrigated/fertilized area vs the pavers. They had pruned them during the offseason last year, and the decision was probably sealed then. When I was at KD in 2016, I was amazed at the mostly dead ash trees around the Eifel Tower, they looked like a huge liability. I hated to see the trees at KI go, but I think IS will look great. I was more upset about the removal of the last of the gingko trees in the area formerly known as Coney Mall--they had all been moved from Coney Island and they all ended up in the former smoking area as the others died and off and were replaced with maple trees.
  16. I wonder if we will see a construction fence that says #ItsBigItsComing or #ItsBigItsOnTheWay? Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  17. I like a nice storyline to go along with a coaster, which we have seen with Twisted Timbers, Copperhead Strike, and Mystic Timbers, and to a lesser extent, Steel Vengeance. (I can't speak to RailBlazer). But once the train leaves the lift hill, I'm not concerned about visual themes, but it is nice to pick that up once you get to the brake run. In the overall cost of the coaster, I would think the cost of theming wouldn't be a huge percentage.
  18. Very nice! Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  19. For my part of the conversation, it's just a wish. I like the maze, but it's an eyesore during the main season, in my opinion. With KMAA going next door, the park may enhance the facade. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  20. Actually northeast, or east northeast. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  21. Well aren't you pleasant. [emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787] Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  22. I think Mr. Kootnz has a huge influence, but I also think the reaction to Winterfest has energized the park. I think the company is seeing the value of the investment and furthering it more. Winterfest has really excited me. I am an old man, but it truly brought back the magic of the KI of my youth. IS seemed alive. Kids may not express it, but the music, smells and sights can be cemented in your mind. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  23. Hmm...it's as if someone reads these message boards, listens, and implements... Winterfest, IS restoration, themed music, glockenspiel...all things we have discussed here. Dare we discuss a Racer renovation? Lol. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  24. Yes, I get the Juke Box Dinner is close. But there is no climate control eatery on the north side of the park. And on the south side, we have the Planet Snoopy Grill, Potato Works and Pizza all very close to the climate controlled eatery there. As far as plumbing, if they were to put in my idea (which I doubt would happen), they would have to do major construction. Water and sewer lines are in place since we have the diner and a restroom nearby... Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  25. Would it be ethnocentric where Disney has a park in another country, and smoking is accepted, to allow unfettered smoking anywhere? I think what the market will bear (or is it bare?) comes into play. The percentage of smokers/vapers decreases and the health hazards of the use of tobacco/vape is revealed, the less people partake. People do have a choice to visit or not visit a park.
