WooferBearATL
That just floors me! The Bond Hill/Norwood one used to always be busy. I remember when it opened and the parking lot was full almost every night. Now I'd never been to the Erlanger location, but can not imagine that it was very slow being right off the interstate there. Hank
Showcase closed our Super Cinema - the "dollar" theatres - last week. Now only the expensive movie houses are open. What really sucks is that excpet for one drive-in and a 2 screen theatre in one of our dying malls, Showcase owns all the rest here in Toledo. No competition whatever! Erosarrow05
the florence union area is in need of a new theater ... the showcase cinemeas / florence cinemas are rather dated. I hate having to drive all the way to the levee...
Shaggy
Florence is getting new ones. Right in front of the Florence Mall.
BoddaH1994
The Erlanger location was a dump... let's face it. Broken chairs, sticky floors, small theatre houses... it's been like that for about 10 years. I think what made it suffer was the fact that it was kind of hard to find if you hadn't been there before. From what I understand, Showcase had plans of opening a new theatre right at the corner of Houseton and Commonwealth, but I'm guessing that's been scratched. BoddaH1994
Update: Showcase Cinema De Lux to Open June 27th in Florence, KY. (Would replace Erlanger location) http://news.communitypress.com/apps/pbcs.d...48/1092/RSS0802
CoastersNSich
I remember going to the old Springdale Showcase... prior to 1998, it was 9 screens, many of them long and narrow, worn-out seats, the doors opening in the back, light coming in when opened. ONE entrance, all the way at the end of the HUMONGOUS parking lot. Then after 25 years, they built the complex we see today, the first with stadium seating in the Cincinnati area. They first opened 10 screens in late spring, tore down the old building, then built the remaining 8 screens. Then a few years ago, it was rebranded as Cinema de Lux, and 4 auditoriums got new seating and decor, while another was converted to IMAX. Yes, the first generation of the cineplex is going away - they brought on the demise of grand downtown movie palaces, and now, those banal multi-screens themselves are going away. Even the Showcase across from Kings Island seems outdated - even though it was opened late 1996, it must've been one of the last built with traditional, low-pitched ramp seating. If I'm in the area, I prefer to use the new Regal Cinemas at Deerfield Town Center near Mason - stadium seating though some of the auditoriums are tiny. I also have been to the greene, even though there is a showcase much closer, the cinema de lux there is just so much more enjoyable... When I was working in Norwood for my first co-op assignment, I was surprised at how empty the parking lot seemed almost every day. Granted, only very rarely did I pass by on a weekend, but even then it seemed like the cinema wasn't receiving much business.

I believe that's referred to as "creative destructionism" I've gotten so spoiled I won't go to a theater now that doesn't have stadium seats! Luckily, there's been a lot of new theater building in Columbus over the last ten years, so they all pretty much have stadium seating now. (And, a lot of the older ones have retrofitted to include it...)
CoastersRZ
I remember the old Showcase Cinemas in Milford before the current one with stadium seating was built. The old building is now used as a church, and Showcase Cinemas closed its Easgate mall location a few years back. It was just torn down last summer. For those of you that live in the Anderson Township area, a new movie theater, Danbarry Cinemas to be built at Anderson Towne Place, and located immediately behind the Anderson Towne Center. Construction is just about ready to begin, I believe.

Last time I was at Norwood, the seats were in your car and you could choose what movie to watch, east or west. If you didn't like the movies then you could fog the windows, or go and play in the play area. Ohh the memories of the twin!!
Dwight Falin
Florence is getting new ones. Right in front of the Florence Mall. Just to let you know. I don't know if you have to be a Star Pass Memeber to get in. But on Thursday June 26 all day. They are going to be open. Showing several movies for free. I got an email from them saying it's a free preview day. They are going to be showing Chicken Little, Meet The Robisons, All four of the Batman movies plus all 5 of the Harry Potters and The Mummy movies. hausty1983
So the new one going in Anderson is going to just show old movies that have already hit the $9 movie theatres or are they going to show new movies?
KIBertke
I think it's sad when old theaters closed. I worked at Showcase Cinemas Crosspointe for about a year and a half, up until it closed in 06, and I still miss it. Since then I've worked at the CDL The Greene, the CDL Franklin Park in Toledo, and am currently at Showcase Cinemas Dayton South. So yea I've been around with the company for a while, lol.
