RaptorGuy
I know a park rep is going to get upset and call the ACE police on me, but if he's that sensitive, be my guest and call them! They have been assigning seats this week on Beast for no apparent reason. I told the rides manager I was upset and he is suppose to fix it, but as of today that has not happened. There is absolutely NO reason to assign seats on coasters, and especially ones were they never did in the last 32 years! I don't know whats up with assigning seats on Beast, but this Raptor Bird is NOT amused!
coaster_junky
eww... i can understand it on Diamondback, the station gets very cramped, plus all seats offer a butter smooth ride. if they're going to keep assigning seats for The Beast, my dad just might have to give up riding it. the only places his back can handle the ride is in 1-1 or any non wheel seat. CoasterFreak45
I was very happy to see them doing this. It always sucked when it bottlenecked in the middle and the back and front rows were always empty. I've also noticed that if the line isn't busy, and you ask kindly they will give you the row you asked.
Creed Bratton
I haven't ever had to ride in an assigned seat on Beast. I'm not sure why they are doing it nor do I think it's needed. Of course I'm not at the park to see how busy it is. I'm guessing it's not any busier than it has been earlier this season or last season when they didn't assign seats. I find that assigning seats frustrate guests, pass holders and even employees. It does suck having jam packed stations but I like to find my seat on my own. Diamondback96
When I was there yesterday they were just telling people to go to an empty row.
The Interpreter
Just think, for only five dollars more, you can pick your own seat. Believe it or not, back in the days of ride tickets and pay by the ride, the vast majority of parks counted off trainloads of people and herded them into the station. Riverside in Massachusetts, the park that would eventually become SFNE, was infamous for this. And they weren't the least bit nice about it. CoasterFreak45
I made a mistake in saying they choose the seat, I just remembered they told you to go to an empty row. Still, it makes it nice to not have to worry about the bottlenecking in the middle rows.

Still, it makes it nice to not have to worry about the bottlenecking in the middle rows. I'm an adult and I don't like being told where to sit by a high school girl! That goes through me like a hot knife through butter. I wanted to end my night tonight on a Beast night ride after the fireworks, but after this experience, I will not be doing that. Thanks Beast crew (whom I can't blame as you were no doubt following orders) for ruining my evening at KI! Another complaint to add to my GR report! WTH is going on at KI this year?? Sheesh! markr
Was there yesterday when they assigned seats on The Beast-got row 5, a non-wheel seat so I was fine. Do agree with you Raptorguy-many of us oldsters' backs just cannot tolerate those back wheel seats.
AZ Kinda Guy
...They have been assigning seats this week on Beast for no apparent reason.... There's a perfectly good reason why they are assigning seats on The Beast but you are too ACER-minded to realize what it is.
CedarPointer
I personally like seats being assigned better. I hate the ridiculous crowd of people who jam themselves into the station which makes it impossible to get to the very front or back without a lot of pushing... Titan
It's just like The Racers. The line looks big, but that's because most of the people stand in the station clueless. So if you ask me, it's a good idea assigning seats.
The Interpreter
One can limit access to a station without assigning seats. Cedar Point has done so from time to time for years.
markr
Good point Terpie. Another good thing about having an attendant by the entrance to the platform is they can measure children to see that they are tall enough. This saves delays in dispatching trains because of having to measure children after they enter the train. However, limiting the number of people on the line platform does not have to mean assigning seats.
The Interpreter
Probably just another part of this test....
CedarPointer
I love when people get upset about the park employees telling them what to do... regardless of age, they do work there and you don't... Unless it's something totally unreasonable, they do have authority to assign seats, enforce policies, etc...
The Interpreter
They have the authority given them by the park. No more. No less. And if they exceed that, they probably won't be there long. Unless Dad's the CEO, or something.
windshawne
Tonight on AE, this woman created a scene in the station because her sons were not tall enough to ride. I could tell she was yelling and she was getting in the op's face. It got to the point she demanded they be measured with measuring tape, and delayed the ride for all of us. The young man handled it beautifully, and personally, since the woman chose to act ghetto about it, should have been escorted the hell out. AZ, how about enlightening me on what the reasoning is since I'm the dense one here??
KIfan1980
Not a fan of assigned seating on The Beast as I experience a very different ride (some fun, some more painful) depending upon where I sit when riding. I can only assume the goal is to avoid congestion (and the potential for problems that causes) in the station and ensure maximum capacity for the ride. I'd prefer to see them doing this by pulsing people into the row queue areas and not by telling you where to sit. They could even remove one of the switchbacks in the station queues to provide more space if they think that is necessary as there are plenty in the lower queue areas. One question: When assigning, is there still a split for front or back or are they taking everyone through one part of the line?
Pagoda Gift Shop
Absolutely. I am not a fan of assigned seating. I am a huge fan of station flood control. However, you usually don't see it because it requires an extra worker to sit in the queue.

There's a perfectly good reason why they are assigning seats on The Beast but you are too ACER-minded to realize what it is. windshawne took the words right out of my mouth...please enlighten we the stupid ones what that reason might be...and why the park has not had to do it in the past even when The Beast was the king of the park. Anxiously awaiting your wisdom.
TheLip2
If you ask them for a location they almost always accomodate you. It stops the bottleknecks and trains are fuller. What is the problem? I applaud the change and I never sit on the wheels. If you want to complain lets get into excessive trim breaking out the wazzoo.
standbyme
AZ Kinda Guy...if that is correct...and I am not saying that it isn't...isn't that proof enough that the Fastlane system DOES affect the "regular" customers. I think that goes against the spiel that the non-Fastlane customers wouldn't even notice a difference...don't you agree?
AgentSoB
I do not know if it is still occuring or not but Flight of Fear was also assigning seats on the 24th when I was there... it actually made the operations seem more smooth on the ride imo. BoddaH1994
I'm not 100% certain why they have them all day (sometimes) but AZ Kinda Guy, while being a jerk, is correct. They have the seperators so that guests don't have to wait a cycle in a specific seat so that the Fast Lane people can go. Not sure if this increases capacity or not, but I rode FOF the other day and the line felt like it was going faster. And Brian, before you get upset about it, have you tried requesting a seat? I've never been told no on Diamondback..
TOPGUN1993
Alright settle down all you ....... people At Beast this is what they do, what they call "pulsing the station" this is done by letting one trains worth of people into the station by simply saying "Please choose any empty row" cutting the line when there is about 4 empty rows left. Then asking the next people in line to go to these rows if they want the next train. Please don't get it in your mind that Beast is doing what Diamondback use to do by assigning numbered rows, as this is not the case. Having a separator is beneficial to the guests as it makes it simple to get there group on the same train without having to line up. The process is still somewhat new, give it a week or two to perfect it. Any questions feel free to ask.

Gordon Bombay
I took my cousin to the park tonight. We rode Beast. I asked if we could have the second seat from the back. The operator kindly obliged.
Tanna
When I went tonight, the only assigned seat was when they pulled us out of the line to walk past 15-20 people. Every other time, we went to the seat we wanted.
