alluna Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Okay, I learned the term 'switchbacks' in this thread. Not bad for 8:30 in the morning. I love seeing these old photos! Look at all those trees! Quote
standbyme Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Shooting off fireworks at Christmas time just doesn't seem to fit...the same as putting up a Christmas tree on the 4th Of July. I have always held that places like KI & Disney etc...have ruined the "thrill" of seeing fireworks on the 4th because of them shooting them off year 'round. (Kinda like how the family would all gather around the TV to see a holiday special...now they can watch it over and over and over on video/DVD or on demand.) 2 Quote
CoastersRZ Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 But seeing the nightly fireworks at Kings Island is just not the same as seeing the fireworks from say Coney`s July 3rd Balloon glow celebration or the Cincinnati Bell WEBN Fireworks. Those are in a class of their own. Quote
kingsrattler Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I had went to the prior 4 years of WEBN fireworks down on the river. This year we didn't make it, and decided to watch it on FOX... totally killed the whole experience, I will definitely be down on the river again this year. Quote
Oldiesmann Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Wait a second. Aren't the shelves in the bottom-left picture props for Cut-Throat Cove now? (Great pictures, by the way! I didn't realize International Street actually had people in different outfits for different parts of the world, too. Where's the middle one on the top located?) The building in the middle on top is currently home to I-Street Larosas. It looks like a publicity photo of sorts...is the lady someone I should know? (Sits here wondering what kind of response I might get from The Interpreter. ) That looks a lot like actress Ann B. Davis, better known as Alice from The Brady Bunch. I had went to the prior 4 years of WEBN fireworks down on the river. This year we didn't make it, and decided to watch it on FOX... totally killed the whole experience, I will definitely be down on the river again this year. You couldn't see it very well from the riverfront either. The smoke was hanging low over the river, so you couldn't see a whole lot. I've heard that the TV production was exceptionally bad this year (I never got around to watching it), but I do agree that there's nothing like watching it from the riverfront. Quote
The Interpreter Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 ...except watching from atop one of the Queen City's skyscrapers. Terp, who knows this. Quote
frisbeefan Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I really like this picture. It is odd not seeing GWL and it's always nice to see pictures of King Cobra. Quote
standbyme Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I still prefer Delirium to King Cobra...but I like how green the area looks with King Cobra there. Quote
TombRaiderFTW Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Cool picture! It seems like it's relatively difficult to find pictures online of SoB and KC together, and, when I've been able to find them, they're not that great in quality. At least with KC and Shockwave, Paramount must've had a thing for multi-colored track rails on their Togo stand-ups. Quote
Jasper Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Great photos, I am still waiting on a photo of the KC queue line. Quote

kingsrattler Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 ^He's a little lopsided isn't he? or all cobras like that? Quote
Oldiesmann Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 They're all like that. They "stand up" like that mostly when confronted. Quote

King Cobra's orginal colors was Yellow Rails, with Green supports and spine! Quote
The Interpreter Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 And very shortly after King Cobra was last repainted, it was gone. As for Shockwave's hideous paint jobs over the years, please don't get me started. 1 Quote
KIfan73 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I really liked KC and hated to see it go. It was one of those rides that made Kings Island Kings Island, if you know what I mean. 1 Quote

standbyme Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I wonder where that sign is...still in the park...somebody's home...hopefully not rotting away in a landfill. Thanks again for the photos! Quote
ohiocolts Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Wow, probably one of my favorites. Going in line, to hangar 18, boarding the ride into the alien planet. All clear, goodbye l! Quote
IndyGuy4KI Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Enjoying the pics Topgun! Thanks for sharing this awesome collection of pics you have. Quote
standbyme Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Dinah Shore was at the park...I never would have guessed. Quote
Oldiesmann Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Apparently that happened in 1977. A Google search for more info turned up this blog post about it from 2006: http://booksteveslibrary.blogspot.com/2006/01/dinah-at-kings-island.html Quote

A Google search for more info turned up this blog post about it from 2006: http://booksteveslib...ngs-island.html Well, Dinah would have been at the park on my first birthday. Too bad I was too young to know what Kings Island was. I did get a Yogi Bear cake for my first birthday party, so that was kind of a link to KI. Quote
markr Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 I used to watch The Dinah Show after school. She had a great talk show with many big name star guests. Quote
TOPGUN1993 Posted February 5, 2012 Author Posted February 5, 2012 Photo #35... Vortex is 25 this year too Uploaded with ImageShack.us Look at that beautiful watermark 3 Quote
KIfan73 Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 I can't believe that Diamondback is almost as old as Vortex was when I first rode it! Quote
standbyme Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 All things considered...that is really an ugly/boring postcard, I wonder if it sold well? Quote
KIfan73 Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 I like the classic sketching style of at postcard, kind of like from the opening year's guide...would be neat to see new attractions sketched like that. Quote
