mccarthysnerd
Of course, coming from me you can expect something like this BUT...... I just wanted to know, what the best thing is to YOU about Son of Beast. Seats, Cars, Old Loop, Lift Hill Etc. If you don't like anything about it than I'm really not sure what to tell you but that you must have rode it on the wrong day!
LongLiveTheSmurfRide
The best part is the look of it. It's a very pretty and photogenic coaster. It looks like it's going to be a great ride....until you ride it.
LongliveKingsCobra
The loop was the best. I very much enjoy the bit right after the lift-hill. Not sure why, I just like the fact that they make you go down a little hill into a turn and then the BIG drop!
The Interpreter
See also the Camden Park Big Dipper. Same thing on a somewhat smaller scale. Small drop before the big dip. (it took less to thrill in 1958).
BB1
The cars always appealed to me, but the wood appeals to the termites....
The Interpreter
Actually, it doesn't. It's pressure treated wood and highly pest resistant. Why, for the last several years it's even kept human riders-along away!
BB1
Thats why i said appealed, they like it, but they cant have it.
Diamondbacker
I loved the first drop. I can't exactly remember how much airtime I got, but I think it was somewhere above Beast's airtime. Going down that fast on a woodie is something that I'm sure we'll never see again.
The Interpreter
Airtime on Son of Beast? I rode it hundreds of times. I got airtime on it exactly once, during the loop days, in the backseat with Dave Althoff, Jr., after a rainstorm. The coaster, like its namesake, was not designed with airtime in mind. LongLiveTheSmurfRide
Is the floaty feeling you get on the first hill of a coaster not considered airtime? (I'm sure the definition has been explained before, but I don't remember).
The Interpreter
Yes. Or it can be ejector type. Racer at one time had lots more airtime than it seems to today. Diamondback has significant airtime. Bizarro at Six Flags New England has abundant airtime, as does El Toro at Great Adventure.
thunderbeast1968
Son of Beast, was(is) an ok coaster. I thought it was a little rough at times. Other times I had good experiences on it. My favorite part was the loop, and the pure speed of it all. The only thing that bothered me at times was the heavy hitting rattle on "the Rose Bowl" I had one annoyance, the lift hill chain (and I am sure the anti-rollback device) was loud. You couldn't hear the person right next to you.
HTCO
My favorite part of SOB was the loop, and the layout following. I never liked anything before it.
Dalefan
I got banged up real bad one time on SOB, and never rode it again. I couldn't ride anything for like 4 hours after that cause of the pain. Had to buy some 5.00 Advil. Lol.
thunderbeast1968
One slow evening, I rode Son of Beast three times in a row. I felt like I had been through a bad car crash. With no one in the cue house, I wanted to just stay on and ride again, but a ride-op stated "You need a few minutes" (I guess with a small break of walking back thru the cue line), to be able to ride again. The Interpreter
Under Paramount, there were at least a couple of years that riders were not allowed to ride any coaster more than two consecutive times. Carowinds even applied this rule during coaster club ERT's.

IndyGuy4KI
To this day, SOB's first drop is my favorite on a woddie.
TromaKing
Well there isnt much to like about it at this time. Maybe looking at the structure or maybe the beautiful brown color? During HH you could enjoy the haunt that is put in the station, but for now it is just a bunch of wood to look at.
spitfire
The drop was by far my favorite part. The loop was great, too.
Oldiesmann
The first drop and the loop were my favorite parts. In its original form, SOB was a must-ride for me on every visit to the park. After the loop-ectomy and the replacement of the trains, I rode it exactly once (ironically just a few months before it closed), and didn't like the experience nearly as much, mainly due to the way the trains shuffled on the track. westcoaster
first hill and the loop
Elkman
I never got to ride SOB, but when it was running, the first hill looked cool and intimidating. However, my past couple visits I've noticed an interesting trend. SOB is invisible, I see it literally, but just don't seem to acknowledge it's presence. Its kind of like forgetting you wear glasses, you know they're there, but really don't care much more about them.
Thrill_Biscuit
I like how huge it is, and how it very nicely compliments the skyline of the park. I wish it was not SBNO.
KIfan1980
Maybe my memory is fading but I'm assuming that those referencing the first drop mean the main drop after the lift hill. Didnt Sonny have a little bit of a run with a first drop out of the station before the lift hill (heck, some may count the fakey drop off the lift hill as a second and the big drop as the third)
dr_humor
Not to sound cynical, but it's departure. Never had a good ride, and there were many tries. The best part was the build-up and anticipation to how exciting it might be, only to be quite possibly the single biggest flop in coaster history. There really is no denying that in nearly every sense of the industry. It is beyond time to move on.
CedarPointer
It's a nice structure.
Hank
My favorite part was the "rose bowl" only for its speed - but god almighty, did it hurt!
flightoffear1996
The rose bowl was amazing even though it was rough. The end wasn't bad either
Browntggrr
I like that SoB is no longer causing bad press for KI.
