Reusing old IP?

The reuse of The Bat IP proved to be successful amongst park fans which got me thinking, will the park recycle an old IP for a new ride? Some might consider it lazy to recycle something that’s since been gone but I argue it’s creative and a money saver in many respects. That being said, which IP do you think would be the easiest to resurrect for a new ride?

I always thought it was a huge missed opportunity that they didn't retheme Invertigo to Screamin' Demon.

I think whatever goes in The Vortex plot could at least pay some sort of homage to Vortex. Regardless of how people thought about the roughness of the ride, it was still one of the more iconic coasters of the park. Not saying I want a Vortex 2, but it would be nice to see Vortex incorporated somewhere in the theme of the new ride, or the color scheme being orange and blue.

If I were the park and doing a nostalgia-based attraction based on the options here, I'd do a B&M surf coaster named King Cobra.

I don't say this to shoot down this topic, but if I'm being honest, I'd much rather the park definitively draw the nostalgia era to a close with a return of Phantom Theater and then start focusing more on creating new legends. Nostalgia was a cool focus for the 50th, and bringing back The Bat name, adding Kings Mills Antique Autos, and making the refurbishments of Adventure Express and Racer among the marketed additions of their respective years were inspired touches. I also think that if we continue much more down that path, the park risks another era down the road where, much like post-Paramount, the park will have failed to keep up with the industry and we'll be getting an RMC 10 years after the stateside trend has faded, as was the case with B&M inverts and Banshee.

Every legendary KI ride was some new idea the park hadn't seen before. Let's do more of that.

I always felt like that was our trend if you think about it. We were late to the hyper party, the invert party, and so on. Personally I don’t mind being behind the trends because we can improve on something that has existed for years. With Banshee, we got new trains, a drop without a pre drop, and different elements you hadn’t really seen on inverts before.

I feel like if we got on the RMC trend in the 2010s like everyone else did, it wouldn’t be as special because it would have been one upped at some point the following year by another park. At least if we got a RMC in the future, it would be different than other RMCs from years prior.

I guess it’s what Mark Twain said about Cincinnati: everything happens 10 years later.

B&M Invert: When Cedar Point built Raptor there was an exclusivity clause as part of the contract which disallowed Paramount's Kings Island or any parks within so large of a radius (think Paramount's Canada's Wonderland, Kennywood, Geauga Lake) from buying a B&M invert. Face/Off (Invertigo)- a Vekoma invert, was the decided alternative for KI. This exclusivity clause obviously was no longer enforced once Kings Island was purchased by Cedar Fair. Carowinds which was outside of the radius got a B&M invert in Top Gun (Afterburn).

B&M Hyper: KI likely did not receive a B&M hyper in the Paramount era because the park had a wooden hyper coaster in Son of Beast. When Cedar Fair took over in 2006 the accident happened within the first month or two. Cedar Fair likely knew that even if successfully salvaged, SOB would never be as popular as hoped for, and there was a chance it would have to be removed.

Cedar Fair then bought B&M Hypers for 3 parks; I assume they got a nice package deal. Those coasters were three successful rides for the newly acquired Paramount parks. The leaning on B&M became that much stronger when their former go-to/best buddy Intamin started fumbling repeatedly on reliability and safety.

Pre-Cedar Fair KI always tried to be different than CP and market what CP did not offer.

The late 90's/early 00's were truly a special time having 3 powerhouse parks all within a days drive of one another in the same state. Each one offering a completely different experience and ride line-up. What a time that was.

@DJSkyFoxx Yes, the three parks having different owners made it special because they were really in competition. And I know that inter-park competition is usually overestimated by enthusiasts, there was significant competition for Columbus and Northeast Ohio back then.

Cedar Fair has done a good job with KI overall, but at this point I think it would probably be better for the patrons of both parks if they were separate again. There is just too much temptation to coast when you have a stranglehold on the market and there's going to be a loss of uniqueness when the same people are making the big decisions for both parks.

I understand the reasons behind why we didn’t get those models, nevertheless I like that we got them late in the game as it allowed the park to work with B&M on more creative designs after learning from all the respective inverts and hypers that had come before. I argue if we got an invert or hyper in the late 90s/early 2000s, like so many other parks did, they wouldn’t stand out and just look more cookie cutter.

I think there should be something added to Action Zone to use the old Screamin Demon or King Cobra IP. But I also think a nod to the old wild animal safari stuff would be cool too. That could be just reused as theming for a new ride and then have it called something related to Wild Animal Safari. And, it's basically beating a dead horse, but I'll say they should use phantom theater and revive it or theme a different ride to it until I use my last breath lol.
