I don`t think they could use it for a Fear Fest house simply because there is not a lot of room there. It is kind of shoehorned in between Wings, and the side of the hill by Swan Lake. The current location of the Backporch stage used to be where the path went down the hillside and across Swan lake and connected with the path by Paradise Island treats.

Actually its a vendor, not under PKI direct control. So they can technically do whatever they want with their hours and such.

As a vendor, I assure you they can't just do what they please. We still have to get permission from PKI full-time staff to close early, etc. It's not quite as easy as you might think.

Seeing old pics of that building, it is a shame they demolished that for a queue that is as barely shaded as Diamondback's queue. Imo looking back they honestly could've kept that building and used it as Diamondback's queue house similar to how Maverick uses White Water Landing's old station for its queue.Ā

I wonder if it got demolished because it would've blocked the view of the lift hill from Diamondback's entrance and ID sign. I could see a scenario where Cedar Fair wanted their first big/brand new coaster's lift hill to be visible from as many angles as possible, especially the entrance. Having the building as part of the queue would've been awesome. It would have also allowed Rivertown to retain more of its "town" feel. I personally prefer Maverick's entrance because of the buildings, and I think Kings Island would be doing themselves a favor to enclose that top part of Diamondback's cattle pen queue with a building similar to the one Rivertown Mining Co. was in.Ā

I know I brought it up in a separate thread, but creating a Rivertown centric storyline to the coaster along with this would be pretty amazing. It's a common consensus among Kings Island fans that Diamondback, while a smashing success and great coaster, took a lot of the vibes away from Rivertown as many trees had to be leveled throughout the surrounding area. An indoor themed queue, set up like either a farm house or an old town shop, can help bring back a little of what was lost.

I like that idea. I think a simple queue house structure similar to Maverick's queue (old WWL station building) covering the main part of the queue with the front of it facing the Coke stand decoratedĀ similar to the old Rivertown mining company exterior would be awesome. Then inside the queue house have some old western lanterns light up the queue (similar to inside a Cracker Barrel) along with fans and maybe a custom country/western music playlist similar to what Maverick used to have. Would be a good opportunity for Diamondback's 20th anniversary in 2029.Ā

I could be incorrect here, but my understanding has always been that, that was the original plan. However, there ended up being a complication with using that building.Ā

I could've sworn someone said there were structural issues with the building. It's a believable story, especially if it was a wood frame building.Ā

Ā

Hopefully the building does make a return as cover for Diamondback's queue. The facade would be great as either a covered porch to sit under or as a small pop-up shop location for festivals/events. For the pop-up shop, imagine the carts/sheds where the park sells No-Boo necklaces or bubble wands — except with the look of the souvenir alcoves on the side of either arcade building. I'd vote for some tables under there as an option if the Outpost Frozen Cocktails ever gets turned back into a food stand.
