  1. The Beast roller coaster and Kings Island will be featured tonight at 9:00pm on the Travel Channel’s “Insane Coaster Wars” series in the “Splintering Speedsters” category. The Vortex (“Wrong Way Up”) and Diamondback (“Extreme Heights”) will be featured on the Travel Channel series July 22 and July 29, respectively. A production crew from the Travel Channel spent three days at Kings Island in May filming for the episodes.

  3. Today, I made my 3rd visit to an amusement park this week. (I went to Indiana Beach on Wednesday, and hope to get a PTR up sometime this week) My dad suggested we could go, if my sister Lucy would try out Flight of Fear. This will be his first KI visit this season. So, he sleeps in, and suggested it after the park opened. So, we got to the park a bit after 11, and headed to FOF. I was expecxting a 30 minute - 1 hour wait. They had all the switchbacks in the outdoor queue filled, and the sign posted said about a 45 minute wait. I was expecting none of the extra lines in the indoor queue to be filled. So, we all waited for my Lucy's first ever Flight of Fear ride. When we got inside, the air was nice, and there was no extra part of the queue being used. Soon, we got on, me and my mom got the back row, and Lucy and my dad were right in front of us. We waited about 35 minutes. "All clear! goodbye", and we launched. It was just pure Flight of Fear goodness. a great ride, as always. Dad said we could see the 2 o'clock Ed Alonzo show, and it was about noon. We headed to The Beast to pass the time. The line didn't look to bad. It was just a little down the stairs from the station, and looked to be about 10 minutes. When we were in line, it rained a little. Luckily, 10 minutes later, when we got on the ride, the rain had stopped. All 4 of us rode in non-wheel seats, in the middle of the cars. As always, it was an amazing ride, and my dad praised the ride not being so shaky. The middle of the car + some offseason track work = a not so bumpy ride. It was still a bit till the show started, so we headed to The Racer. There was no line, and both sides were running. Me and my dad took 2nd row on the Red Racer and my mom and Lucy took 2nd row on the Blue Racer. It was a walk on, and we went. The Blue was a bit ahead of the Red, but from my Coasting For Kids expiriences, the Red would still win. For some reason, on the 4th hill, the Red Racer speeds ahead, and ends of up winning. So, of course we won, and it wasn't too bumpy. The Red Racer has seemed less shaky then Blue this year. There was STILL time to spare, so we headed to Adventure Express. Surprising all of us was a short line, that was about 10 minutes. Me and my dad took the next to back row, and my mom and Lucy were in front of me. It was a nice ride, and all the themeing and sound effects I believe were working. It was a nice ride, and now we headed to Ed Alonzo. My 9 year old sister Lucy was getting cranky and wanted to spoil my fun and leave soon, so after the magic show we would leave. Right before the doors for the show opened, they informed us that they are opening up the left and right doors, and not the middle door. (which is the one we were waiting for) So, we still got a second row seat. It was a nice show, and it seems like they really haven't changed much anything sense June 10th. Still a nice show. Now we left the park, after only a few hours. A couple notes: *Shake Rattle And Roll was down today. Hopefully it's just a small issue, and will be opened back up soon. *Delirium was still down. No idea when it will run. Thank's for reading!

  6. Really? It's time to move on - a coaster that hasnt operated in years and is unlikely to operate again (IMO) is hardly worthy of laying claim to any records.

  10. Finally made it out to Soak City today! My girlfriend and I decided to go out to Soak City today, it was kind of overcast and it looked like rain, but we decided to attempt it anyway. It was a good thing we did too because the weather kept the big crowds away. We didn't arrive until about 4:15 and the first thing we did was try the new wave pool. It wasn't very crowded at all! There were also plenty of tubes to grab. So we grabbed some tubes and enjoyed 3 rounds of waves. Next we walked over to Mondo Monsoon. We love that slide, but the line is always long. As always, this was a long line today, the longest line in the whole waterpark. After that we thought we'd give the new Splash River a try. I was kind of concerned because I've heard some negative reviews on here about all the water sprayers. However, it wasn't as bad as I thought. Yeah, it was kind of annoying being sprayed, but the stream of water wasn't as powerful as I was fearing. So all in all, Splash River was pretty fun. Next I decided to go on Rendezvous Run which is always fun. After that it was starting to rain a little and the air was getting kind of cool. By this time is was about 6:15, so we decided to go back over to the new wave pool and enjoy a few more rounds of waves before we left. It was kind of a short visit today, but it was nice to get to walk around Soak City for the first time and experience some of the new additions/upgrades. We hope to get back at least one more time this season on a day where it's actually hot and sunny!

  13. ^ Oh...thanks for clearing that up...hmm, perhaps Beast+No Trims isn't so "unsafe" after all...maybe not as comfortable (probably far from it), and certainly it's going to need more maintenance...but, still "safe" enough to operate for a short while... Oh, and thanks for reminding me- I forgot that skid brakes SUCK when it rains, which means Beast Pre-2002+Rain=Super Epic Ultra High Speed Rampage Through Forest at 70mph...and+Night=Super Epic Ultra High Speed Rampage Through Forest at 70mph in Pitch Black Darkness! I'll bet you THOSE rides are where The Beast got its "epic coaster legend" status from...and sadly, it's those rides the new brakes have taken away, because they work mo' better in rain...even though, because of the October 2001 accident, I can see why they were changed...

  14. Define "getting stuck." For me, sitting on a lift hill, on the mid-course brake run, or the final brake run, waiting for a block to clear does not qualify. Nor would a roll back.

  15. ...which has nothing to do with which coaster "wins." The Travel Channel will be pleased to know so many think it matters which coaster is selected. Mr. Slade, on the other hand....

  18. Neither the parks nor the Travel Channel want to showcase a ride that isn't operating. That would make no sense at all, and could engender a lot of ill will for the parks. "But I came to ride that looping wood coaster I saw on the Travel Channel!"

  19. That would be a convenient enough reason for McDonalds, won't it? Rather have one machine misreading temperatures than for word to spread that your policy is to serve coffee at a temperature that can cause third degree burns?

  20. As hard (nearly impossible) as it is to honestly compare two coasters, due to the different things each coaster is designed to accomplish, I feel that Voyage does what its supposed to do better than The Beast does what its supposed to do. Beast is cool, Voyage is cool, but IMHO Voyage is a "better" coaster due to what I like in a coaster.

  21. And Cedar Point is not trying to Beat Kings Island in anything, Same Company, they want both parks to make losts of money!

  22. They don't need to try to beat Firehawk because they already have many rides that are better... and even if they were, it's not hard to do. (I don't like Firehawk, if you couldn't tell)

  24. Sigh. The plaintiff in the McDonald's suit wasn't driving. The case did go to trial, got a very large verdict AGAINST McDonald's, THEN settled out of court for far less as McDonald's intended to appeal and appeal, and the plaintiff was very elderly and needed the medical bills paid, she was being hounded by creditors. What was your point again?

  25. Cedar Point always has to try to be better than Kings Island. In this case, their trying to beat Firehawk. (I think)

  26. The fact that there were only 25 people on it on a busy Saturday morning indicates a condition. The fact the paper did not go into how the guests were evacuated or treated by the park (see even The Sandusky Register, a notorious homer, by comparison) is quite instructive. This type of event is not something any park or ride manufacturer wants. Also, don't miss the comments. 30. Or, maybe we are NOT thinking too much, and simply having fun with the clues (which some should get one of) and making fun guesses. Seriously, even with the fact that Cedar Fair now has a CEO with imagination and more than a black and white money mind, I know better than to think for a New York minute that they would use the scientific name of a bat as a name for a roller coaster, nor would they go through the process of searching a thesaurus to find a synonym for the word Banshee. I do it, because I have that type of mind, and am thinking about 10 things from 20 different angles when most are thinking of 2 at best.

  33. Having only been to HW and KI this year, I would have to go with HW. HW wins with Mammoth. KI loses on IMO false advertising (how is SC double the size of BB when the only addition is one new wave pool? I still can't figure that one out.).

  34. I cannot play football, should I sue the NFL for discrimination? Absolutely not, it would be foolish. Unfortunately, there are certain things some people cannot do. That does not mean they are discriminated against. Even if it was allowed at one time does not mean it is or was the right decision.

  35. I was on WT when a fake leg came off the forward launch side. The ride was e-stopped & homed out, and it created quite the scene (with some blood curdling screams) when someone yelled out "SOMEONE LOST A LEG!" and then we all saw it laying there. My wife freaked, I then sarcastically asked her: "I wonder what it hit?" She then hit me (this happens often).

  36. One other thing to remember. In 1979, The Beast had bench seats with buzz bars. No seat belts, no seat dividers, no headrests and no individual lap bars. It was likely a much different ride experience than it is today. Imagine how many people would feel The Beast is unsafe if it still operated the way it did in 1979. Although many of us would consider this fun, I'm sure others wouldn't.

  37. I went today for a short visit in the afternoon after a 2 week absence from Kings Island. I had recently gotten stitches in my knee, so my list of rides I could ride safely was very limited, being limited to mainly Diamondback, Delirium, Drop Tower, and WindSeeker. When I first got to the park I noticed that the 'Throw the Ducky in the Fountain' thingy (the name escapes me right now) was back, except this time instead of Rubber Duckies, it was Rubber Snoopy's, which is pretty cool. I ended up buying one later in the day. Afterwards, I went to go see Ed Alonzo's Psycho Circus of Magic and Mayhem, which I love so much. Especially funny today, when the little kid "accidentally" knocks over the microphone stand, Mr. Alonzo said "Oh no... You killed Magic Mic." (B-Dum Tss) After the show, I rode Diamondback, which I both love and am also terrified on, because the restraint just barely can't fully pin me in (if that makes any sense), so when I go down the hill I rise up off the seat to the point where I'm practically standing up. Must admit, can't say it's my favorite feeling, though it's still a fun ride. Next, I went to ride WindSeeker, which was, well, WindSeeker. It's a fun ride, it's just I can't say much about it. By that point, I had realized that Delirium was closed, which I was really disappointed about, since that's one of my favorite rides. I was going to ride Drop Tower, but I was pretty hungry, so I decided to go to the Festhaus to get some Larosas and watch British Invasion. I'm always surprised at how filling a slice of pizza and two cheesy breadsticks can be. British Invasion has a lot of great songs, including the entire section just for The Beatles, but they do sound pretty weird, since they aren't being sung by British singers. It might sound like nitpicking, but I find it to downgrade the performance just a tad. Also, there's a song revue centered around bands and singers from The UK, and they don't sing Bohemian Rhapsody? I for one, I'm appalled! I know that it's an adult song, but The Muppets did it, and it worked out great! Finally, I went to the candy store and got some frozen lemonade, which tasted a lot better then I thought it would, and it was a lot of frozen lemonade for the price. I also rode Diamondback again. All in all, a fun afternoon at the park, even if I couldn't ride most of the rides there.

  39. There IS a way kids these days are going to wait until they are 13 or 14. We have an almost 14 year old and a 12 year old. When the oldest turned 13, he was allowed to get his own Facebook profile (the age is 13.) The 12 year old will have to wait until he is 13 to get a Facebook profile. The rule in this house is that you have to wait until you are the age that the site requires you to be to sign up for anything. They also have parental monitoring software installed on their computers and I monitor it weekly, because there was NO WAY I was going to hand 2 children their ages computers and let them have free roam on the world wide web. They know that computer and internet usage is a privilege and NOT a right. If they don't abide by our rules, they lose the computers. Anyhow, I kind of got off on a tangent there, but the point is that some kids do have to wait, and for good reason. The internet is not full of people that have good intentions and want only the best for your child.

  42. Depends on the people. I can have a grand day at Kings Island without riding a thing, and did in 2009 more than once, as I was medically restricted from riding due to then recent eye surgery. Others might be bored to abstraction. It also depend with whom one is with, the purpose of the visit, what shows are playing or dark and a host of other factors. I still think most depends on the person. Some could enjoy watching an anthill all day. Others would be bored in Times Square on New Year's Eve.
