  1. that's karma... the Son of Beast now knows what it felt like to have been a rider on it.
  2. In a perfect World, that sounds great on paper.A computer glitch could easily cause all servos to disengage and go into a STOP mode even after switching to MANUAL mode. When it comes to safety, there is no "override" or "bypass" switch that would allow a device to be moved once a safety switch has been engaged in the ladder until it is individually reset. Think of it like a railroad crossing signal & barriers. If something goes wrong, the signals come on & the barriers are moved to the engaged position. It will take: an electrician to go out to the crossing, figure out what the issue is, fix it, go into manual mode to disengage the barriers, reset the fault, and put the signals & barrier back into AUTO. Whatever the glitch is (or if there is even a glitch- again- this is still just what I have heard) prevents the WS servos from being reset and then moved manually thus the hand crank comes into play. It should be noted that CP's WS is also testing like KI's.
  3. My track / bolt came today. I had to pose them next to a 2000 park map.
  4. Wonder how many unsuspecting people staying at GWL were wondering what the heck was going on?
  5. I strongly suspect you are going to be very disappointed. Think of a nice diversion, not a record breaking behemoth. The coaster czar has retired.
  6. Probably looks, personality, oh yeah, and a great sense of humor!
  7. As opposed to a smart part? Terp, who likes to ask questions. Smart, or stupid, I'm glad we got it.
  8. It sounded like wood breaking and my thoughts? Good riddance.
  9. I would be more than game for a meet up next year, ticketed or not. Thank you to Malem for the organization. And what do you know a picture of me. The one taken whike waiting for the final ride of The Beast, that's me on the right.
  10. Looks like there's some dummies in the seats. EDIT: Post 300!
  11. Even if THAT is fixed, the excessive evacuation time problem remains.
  12. I'm definitely interested in going to my first Holiwood Nights this year. Nothing's guaranteed at this point, but this is the first year since I've discovered Holiday World that the event isn't falling the weekend before finals week. There's actually a chance I'll be able to make it, but we'll have to see how things go down.
  13. Yes, but I'm assuming they aren't completely pulling the contents of Mr. Helbig's quote from thin air.
  14. Woohoo! I finally got the SOB memorabilia call yesterday!
  15. Not necessarily.A software glitch may have prevented the system from going into a "manual" mode- a mode that will allow the gondola to be lowered using the motorized system as opposed to a hand crank.
  16. I pout when my wife and kids are ready to leave KI for the day, apparently im the one with issues.
  17. Guest
Racer is almost always a walk-on, but yet delivered over 1,300,000 rides. Firehawk has an hour plus wait every single day, but has given only 650,000 rides. Wait lines don't tally the number of actual riders.
  18. Just because it may not be "anyone's favorite ride" doesn't mean people don't like it. I would say the Eiffel Tower isn't anyone's favorite, but I do not think it was a waste or that they should take it down. I know the bumper cars aren't my favorite, but if the park said they were getting rid of them there would be plenty of people upset.
  19. The second to last weekend of the season, me and my bud would play Gangnam Style on little portable speakers and dance in lines. Best reaction was Diamondback when people would scream "AYYEEE SEXY LADDDYYYY"
  20. So you think they will move The Racer over there and change it back to how it originally ran?
  21. Just had another crazy one a few days ago! This time, Train #3 is in it. I dreamt that I was walking along the maintenance road that's right by Vortex's two brake runs and transfer track, and suddenly, I see Train #3 sprawled out on the ground right next to the transfer track as if it had actually fallen off (like one may fall out of his/her own bed). I remember thinking,"Train #3, did you fall out of bed again?" Then, all by myself (this was all during a normal summer day), I lifted each of #3's individual cars back onto the transfer track. . I then looked back at #3 again and saw that it had only five (or six, I don't remember) cars instead of the normal 7. I looked at Train #1, which was patiently waiting outside the station (like in the beginning of the previous dream); and then at #2, which had just finished the helix and arriving safely onto the first brake run (and stopping ) and saw that both of them had 7 cars. Right before the dream ended, I wondered, "If #1 and #2 have 7 cars, why doesn't #3 have 7 cars like #1 and #2 do?" Weird thing: I didn't even think of checking around the transfer track to see if any of #3's "missing" cars were down there. -BFF, who is now wondering, "How many funny/weird Vortex dreams am I gonna have this offseason?"
  22. I love terrain hugging coasters. I'd love to see one go into sob's spot, but I don't see it happening...it would be surrounded by other terrain huggers.
  23. Quoting from this article today http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20121120/NEWS01/121120026/Final-section-Son-Beast-comes-down?odyssey=nav%7Chead&nclick_check=1 " "Once the ride has been removed, probably in early 2013, we’ll begin the process then of surveying the land and looking at all the ideas and different concepts and all the things we can do,” said Helbig. “There’s plenty of room to work with and we’re excited about that opportunity as we look towards the future.” " So I wonder if there are actually any legitimate plans being considered for the area yet. If not, we shouldn't expect to see anything til well beyond 2014. All we can do is wait!
  24. I always like it when coasters are open, dependable, safe and comfortable. Fun is a huge plus. I love strong laterals, intense negative g's, smoothness and the great pacing of an old time woodie (like the Comet at The Great Escape). I'm not much for restraint pain (see Ninja at Six Flags Over Georgia or The Rollercoaster at New York, New York Casino).
  25. I know with Kings Island, they start accepting online applications in December. I would check it out and complete the online application and send in a resume or attach it on the online form. We know Don is the marketing manager and I would inquire with him if you want a marketing position. When I was at The Mount, our business department had contacts with Cincinnati Bell and AT&T just to name a few that we had internships with.
  26. I would guess they made strategic cuts in the supports and attach a cable to it and pulled it down.
  27. http://telly.com/64M9H And that's pretty much it for Son of Beast.
  28. Interesting sidenote is the webcam shows ws seats are at the top of the tower right now.
  29. it probably will not be soon, but it will have to go someday even how sad it might be to say.
  30. I heard diamonds are forever. I doubt anyone cares after the sky falls, though. Sorry for bad James Bond references.
  31. Please take a few seconds to use proper grammar and capitalization. Your post is only five words.
  32. Hey, now, an expansion of PotatoWorks would be awesome! I'd love to see what they can do with the concept of the curly fry... or even onion rings (I'm getting ahead of myself here)... You're right, though. I'd be happy with a dino-themed Ferris wheel myself.
  33. Uh, Beastie1980, I think you might have forgotten someone. You really hug the coaster? I've never seen that! Maybe next year I can ride it with you!
  34. This rumor is very incoherent. There are Arrow loopers within all Cedar Fair parks (with the exception of Knott's, Dorney, and Worlds of Fun), and Screamscape is reporting the 8 coasters will be gone within the next 2 years for no reason. How anyone can see any validity in this is beyond me.
  35. I received my piece of track today after they called yesterday. Here are what they look like. I got No. 15 out of the 250. Comes with a nice Certificate of Authenticity signed by Greg Scheid.
  36. ^On the August KIC Day, a Saturday, I saw ten cars on the track and an empty pit lane the one time I looked at it. So it would seem that it got plenty of business on Saturdays.
  37. Thunder Alley is not listed within the link you provided, nor is it in the thrill rides section.
  38. http://www.visitkingsisland.com/media-center/ride-record-book: Total Riders: 97,825,493 2014 is the likely year for the 100,000,000 rider. People seem to care about special numbers like that.
  39. Rumor has it that the kids who run the Flight Deck purposely fudged the numbers in order to "get even" with the kids who run the Back Lot Stunt Coaster. Glad someone else noticed the conspiracy. Perhaps it's 3 train jealousy
  40. Flight Deck got more electoral rides while Back Lot got more popular rides.
  41. If an empty seat button has to be pressed every time to avoid overcounting, perhaps this guy should be recruited for Flight Deck on slow days:
  42. I'd swear my son racked up about 100 rides on Beetle Bugs alone this year!
  43. KI coasters have buttons that the driver presses each time a empty seat passes by. If the driver doesn't push the button the computer thinks the train has no empty seats and counts it as a "full train" So to answer your question "Ffej" rerides do not effect the count they simply add to it. Compared to Cedar Points system where the rides have turnstiles that count the number of riders and therefore wouldn't count if you rerode.
  44. New Texas Giant isn't Topper Track. Georgia Cyclone is.
  45. A new show? Hmmmm, sounds illuminating. Bring out my old photoshop.
  46. Don was on Fox 19 last Friday morning, talking about the last weekend of Haunt, Ed Alonzo returning next year, and a new show. Since the Thunder Alley cars are now back by Firehawk, I'm thinking TA will be on its way outta hear next year. So, I thought it would make perfect sense to see a Luminosity type show (As mentioned before) in Thunder Alleys spot next year.
  47. We should do a ticketed event next year...
  48. I may not be WindSeeker's biggest fan, but I do like it's light show, and would be sad to see that leave.
