  1. that's karma... the Son of Beast now knows what it felt like to have been a rider on it.

  2. In a perfect World, that sounds great on paper.A computer glitch could easily cause all servos to disengage and go into a STOP mode even after switching to MANUAL mode. When it comes to safety, there is no "override" or "bypass" switch that would allow a device to be moved once a safety switch has been engaged in the ladder until it is individually reset. Think of it like a railroad crossing signal & barriers. If something goes wrong, the signals come on & the barriers are moved to the engaged position. It will take: an electrician to go out to the crossing, figure out what the issue is, fix it, go into manual mode to disengage the barriers, reset the fault, and put the signals & barrier back into AUTO. Whatever the glitch is (or if there is even a glitch- again- this is still just what I have heard) prevents the WS servos from being reset and then moved manually thus the hand crank comes into play. It should be noted that CP's WS is also testing like KI's.

  3. My track / bolt came today. I had to pose them next to a 2000 park map.

  5. I strongly suspect you are going to be very disappointed. Think of a nice diversion, not a record breaking behemoth. The coaster czar has retired.

  9. I would be more than game for a meet up next year, ticketed or not. Thank you to Malem for the organization. And what do you know a picture of me. The one taken whike waiting for the final ride of The Beast, that's me on the right.

  12. I'm definitely interested in going to my first Holiwood Nights this year. Nothing's guaranteed at this point, but this is the first year since I've discovered Holiday World that the event isn't falling the weekend before finals week. There's actually a chance I'll be able to make it, but we'll have to see how things go down.

  15. Not necessarily.A software glitch may have prevented the system from going into a "manual" mode- a mode that will allow the gondola to be lowered using the motorized system as opposed to a hand crank.

  17. Racer is almost always a walk-on, but yet delivered over 1,300,000 rides. Firehawk has an hour plus wait every single day, but has given only 650,000 rides. Wait lines don't tally the number of actual riders.

  18. Just because it may not be "anyone's favorite ride" doesn't mean people don't like it. I would say the Eiffel Tower isn't anyone's favorite, but I do not think it was a waste or that they should take it down. I know the bumper cars aren't my favorite, but if the park said they were getting rid of them there would be plenty of people upset.

  19. From Kings Island's website: Are excessive WindSeeker downtime, the absence of The Crypt, a lost week of Diamondback, and perhaps more accurate counting enough to explain the 10% (2.6M rides) drop? http://www.visitkingsisland.com/blog-article/online-fun/The-Ride-Record-Book "The rides and attractions at Kings Island combined to give 25,371,572 rides during the park's 40th anniversary season in 2012" Kings Island claims a number that is only about 300,000 lower than 2011. Also from the page, "Two attractions gave a record number of rides this year: Firehawk (610,749) and WindSeeker (517,736)." WindSeeker gave more rides than it did in 2011, so that can't be part of the drop reason.

  20. I love inversions just for the sake of being upside down! I also love negative Gs more than positive Gs, although I generally like positive Gs too; also, lateral Gs are a favorite of mine (Adventure Express, anyone? ).

  21. I know with Kings Island, they start accepting online applications in December. I would check it out and complete the online application and send in a resume or attach it on the online form. We know Don is the marketing manager and I would inquire with him if you want a marketing position. When I was at The Mount, our business department had contacts with Cincinnati Bell and AT&T just to name a few that we had internships with.

  30. Hey, now, an expansion of PotatoWorks would be awesome! I'd love to see what they can do with the concept of the curly fry... or even onion rings (I'm getting ahead of myself here)... You're right, though. I'd be happy with a dino-themed Ferris wheel myself.

  31. Uh, Beastie1980, I think you might have forgotten someone. You really hug the coaster? I've never seen that! Maybe next year I can ride it with you!

  32. This rumor is very incoherent. There are Arrow loopers within all Cedar Fair parks (with the exception of Knott's, Dorney, and Worlds of Fun), and Screamscape is reporting the 8 coasters will be gone within the next 2 years for no reason. How anyone can see any validity in this is beyond me.

  33. ^On the August KIC Day, a Saturday, I saw ten cars on the track and an empty pit lane the one time I looked at it. So it would seem that it got plenty of business on Saturdays.

  37. http://www.visitkingsisland.com/media-center/ride-record-book: Total Riders: 97,825,493 2014 is the likely year for the 100,000,000 rider. People seem to care about special numbers like that.

  38. Rumor has it that the kids who run the Flight Deck purposely fudged the numbers in order to "get even" with the kids who run the Back Lot Stunt Coaster. Glad someone else noticed the conspiracy. Perhaps it's 3 train jealousy

  39. Flight Deck got more electoral rides while Back Lot got more popular rides.

  40. If an empty seat button has to be pressed every time to avoid overcounting, perhaps this guy should be recruited for Flight Deck on slow days:

  42. KI coasters have buttons that the driver presses each time a empty seat passes by. If the driver doesn't push the button the computer thinks the train has no empty seats and counts it as a "full train" So to answer your question "Ffej" rerides do not effect the count they simply add to it. Compared to Cedar Points system where the rides have turnstiles that count the number of riders and therefore wouldn't count if you rerode.

  43. Most rides have a counter built into the control panel, where an operator counts the number of riders per a cycle and it'll calculate the sum. In case a ride doesn't have such a feature, then standard mechanical counters come into play. As the headline says on the page linked in the first post, "Yep, we really count every ride". Thunder Alley included.

  45. Don was on Fox 19 last Friday morning, talking about the last weekend of Haunt, Ed Alonzo returning next year, and a new show. Since the Thunder Alley cars are now back by Firehawk, I'm thinking TA will be on its way outta hear next year. So, I thought it would make perfect sense to see a Luminosity type show (As mentioned before) in Thunder Alleys spot next year.

  46. Loved the comment the eifel tower, the dodgem. Remember history the Eifel tower was going to replace a very famous ride the Lost River ( I do believe it was that ride to add to the park . When the flooding occured again then the sell to TAFT they moved the attraction (the pieces ) to be the center piece of the park. Dodgems lets remove it the thrill seekers don't enjoy it. Why is disney great it trys to cater to the imagineers, the thrilleneers, the joyful generationaleers, and so many more. A great park is not just coasters, its the smell, the tastes, the sights, the games, the memories. I'm a rollercoaster lover, but love the other stuff too, I don't see WindSeekers going anywhere unless a settlement would be made by the manufactures'. Wow!
