  3. Zzzzzzzzzz... Whoa, waking from my long slumber. Is there something going on in the park??? Seems to me that the same people who were smart enough to track down a trademark filing could look on public records no further than in Warren County to see what zoning permits have been applied for/filed? Construction has obviously started, so its been filed somewhere... Go to the courthouse, attend a zoning hearing (they're public), or even scope out your good friend- the internet. Going back to bed now.

  4. Coworker 1 to coworker 2 during a conversation about Kings Island: "Hey, remember when they had The Bat? I rode that. It was awesome. I think it was the prototype for that Top Gun ride." Me: *perks up, listens in* Coworker 1: "Yeah, I rode that the week after the big accident." Me: *slightly cringes* Coworker 1: "I guess two cars ended up derailing..." Me: *definitely cringes* Coworker 1: "...And killing, like, 10-14 people." Me: *counts capacity of two Arrow suspended coaster cars in head, groans internally* Coworker 2: "Woah, really? When was that?" Coworker 1: *pauses* "...I guess that would have been 1987 or 1988." Me: *develops hemorrhage* (It didn't actually tweak me that much, haha. I'm exaggerating. I don't exactly expect everyone in the world to know the precise life span of a short-lived prototype roller coaster from 30+ years ago.) EDIT: Okay, so I guess this is technically a guest OUTSIDE the park saying a darnest thing, but I'm too lazy to drag up the appropriate topic. Sue me!

  5. Muppetfan1999 and I really liked Firehawk. I'm glad we did it. Beastie1980.... Not so much lol Even though we didn't get to ride that much it was probably my favorite ki trip ever. I loved seeing all of you guys.Nice report. You have incredible observing skills lol. ALSO shoutout to Terpy! I was really happy that to see you. Not as much as Beastie1980 though, haha. She was so excited I thought she was going to dive into the fountains. Haha

  12. Maxim is the source for the article, not Fox News. Fox carried the feed from Maxim in their travel section and the typos belong to them. If someone works in the news field, can the receiving source edit the piece for typos or do they have to publish it as is? If not, it might be because of copyright issues.

  13. I saw the movie today, and it was the exact same movie they've had for the past two years. Why they're charging for it again, I haven't the slightest clue. As for the unlimited DA!, I bought it today. It is indeed just $12. You have to go to Guest Relations at the front gate to buy it; the Dino Store can't sell it to you. They will apply a sticker with a barcode to the back of your season pass; that sticker is your DA! pass. And if you buy a regular DA! ticket, you can show that ticket at GR (presumably same day only; I didn't ask) and apply the cost of the ticket toward the cost of the season pass sticker, like I did.

  15. Who would tamper with a sign reading "video & audio monitoring in progress"? Seriously, though, anyone vandalizing park property would be ejected out of and banned from the park, if not criminally charged.

  18. Today at school, I had several people tell me Diamondback was 95mph and shorter than Son of Beast. The reason Diamondback was faster although it was shorter was because it was a "metal" coaster and "metal" coasters go faster than wooden. And Top Thrill Dragster is apparently 90ft. long and 150mph (yes, I said long, not tall). You don't know how much I want to strangle some people (is that bad?). There was much more but I forget.

  19. Beat me to it. I mean, way to early, really, to say "this is it", but if...and if...the "evil" conotation of the wording on the sign is a clue, this certainly fits. Banshee...too "risque" in 1996, but OK in 2014. It also has the correct delegation of use.

  22. The idea is a terrain-hugging coaster, a la Maverick and Cheetah Run, only longer and faster. Hummmmm - terrain hugging - just like a big wooden coaster at the park who's son used to take up the area we're discussing.

  26. Why would grown women wear bikinis that make you want to puke? Would other bikinis be less likely to make you want to puke? Isn't your problem with the type of women as opposed to the type of bikinis? And what would the park do about a similarly built male who attempted to wear a bikini in the dry park? Terp, who likes to ask questions.

  34. That would be cool, nice little ride. Could the haunted theme be in reference to the Demon that used to run the land over there? Maybe an Intamin launch coaster like Cheetah Hunt, Maverick, ISpeed or Formula Rossa. Make a reference to the Screamin' Demon... call it Speed Demon.

  35. I'm excited for tomorrow to see if any work has been done to the site since Opening Day. Also rides on Flight Deck are even more enticing. It just seems so different not having SoB right by it.

  36. Dollywood's dress code is pretty conservative, especially compared to KI's, and specifically covers that situation. It's fine as long as it is joined both top and bottom and does not pull in enough to show nipples - button-up shirts must also be buttoned high enough to keep them covered. Cut-off and midriff shirts are allowed but all shirts must cover at least 3/4ths of the torso. Swimsuit tops of any variety, even a tankini or the upper half of a one-piece must be covered with an opaque shirt. I have to admit, it was nice to not have to deal with mostly uncovered individuals all summer last year.

  38. ^^ Umm...not all record-breaking coasters fail like SOB did. Some DO turn out great, see: The Beast, Kings Island Opened in 1979 with the largest drop (141'), fastest top speed (64.8mph), and longest track (7,359') of any roller coaster in the world. Opened to rave reviews. 34 years later, the ride continues to thrill riders and is still one of the most popular rides in the world. Vortex, Kings Island Opened in 1987 as the tallest full-circut roller coaster in the United States at 148', and as the first to go upside down six times. The ride opened to rave reviews, and 26 years later, it remains a staple in Kings Island's lineup. While rumors of its removal in the near future exist, these are not due to the ride being seriously flawed or anything, but rather it simply reaching the end of its normal lifespan. Magnum XL-200, Cedar Point Opened in 1989 as the world's tallest roller coaster (205'), with the biggest drop (194.7'), and highest top speed (72mph) among all complete-circuit roller coasters. Opened to rave reviews. 24 years later, it is still a popular attraction at Cedar Point and still has a large fanbase. Alpengeist, Busch Gardens Williamsburg (because Beastrider even mentioned this one) Opened in 1997, Alpengeist debuted as the tallest full-circut inverted coaster in the world at a massive 195', as well as the fastest at 67mph until Volcano: The Blast Coaster opened at Kings Dominion in 1998 (another "successful" record-breaker that's still going strong today). Alpengeist remains a popular attraction at BGW, and is a key part of that park's excellent-looking coaster lineup. Millennium Force, Cedar Point Opened in 2000, it was the world's tallest roller coaster (310'), with the biggest drop (300'), and fastest speeds (93mph) for a few months until Steel Dragon 2000 opened in Japan. The ride is insanely popular, and has won numerous awards and is considered by many one of the best steel coasters in the world. El Toro, Six Flags Great Adventure Opened in 2006, El Toro opened with the steepest drop on any wooden roller coaster in the world (beaten in 2008 by T-Express @ Everland, South Korea). It was also among the tallest wooden coasters, and the 2nd fastest behind the ill-fated Son of Beast (a title that it has now claimed since SOB is no more). El Toro has been a smash hit for SFGadv, and in 2012, it won the Golden Ticket for Best Wood Coaster as well as winning the Mitch Hawker wood coaster poll for the 3rd year in a row, and it is now in a position to win the Hawker poll an unbelieavble 4th straight year...well, unless newcomer Outlaw Run or T-Express (or in a longshot, Voyage) can stop it... These are just 6 examples (7 if you add the blurb about Volcano). I would not call any of those rides "failures", in fact quite the opposite... There are actually quite a few coasters still going strong today that broke a record or two (or more) when they opened. Going for a record, in itself, is not dumb, so long as you know what you are doing and how to do it safely (which is probably what the above rides did do), and not forget the ride experience itself has to be good... I'm not saying whatever Kings Island is building has to be record-breaking, but I'm just pointing out...not all record breaking rides end up like Son of Beast. Heck, few rides have ever ended up having their reputations get that bad, though...

  40. Indeed. You sat in the floor (most people reclined), and watched films projected on the ceiling. It was quite the high tech for the day. The building was inflatable, and air supported at least in part. I believe a snow did it in.

  45. To follow up on this thread, I meet up with selective and purchased two gold passes from him.(They were in the form of paper receipts) Passes were processed without any issues. Cool dude. It's too bad he was selling his pass, as it would have been nice to have ridden a couple of coasters with him. Unfortunately for you guys, I plan on purchasing his last remaining gold pass on Friday
