An announcement will be made around the time season passes for 2014 begin going on sale in August. That's when most of next year's big additions are announced, in order to increase sales. Diamondback was announced August 6, 2008. This construction, however, is not following the Diamondback construction timeline. Diamondback had land clearing beginning in late 2007 and had seemingly twice as many footers set on opening day than this does now in June. Not because it was any bigger or better, that's just how it went. Gatekeeper construction didn't even start until late Summer 2012. Every addition is different, and there is no master-timeline off of which all construction is planned. As for new construction updates, I'd stop asking for them daily if I were you guys. At this point in construction I would expect a slow increase in footer population for a quite a while, barring some unforeseen circumstances (Diamondback had a splashdown pool, that was pretty weird being built when we didn't know what it was).7 points

Its the steel fabrication from clermont steel. The least bit of the track being off shows up big time at higher speeds. All newer b&m's all jackhammer in the rear of the train. I'm sorry man but come on. Jackhammering is what was felt of SoB not DB or any B&M. Let's not be overdramatic. Let's go with rattle instead. Also, Clerment probably produces a fine product or B&M would go elsewhere. And I'm no expert but I'm sure each piece is carefully inspected before leaving the plant.7 points

Today I had to take my grandpa to one of his doctor appointments in Moraine. After the appointment was done my grandpa told me that he wanted to check something out, however he wouldn't tell me what it was. He told me where to go and I turned onto Gettysburg Avenue and then headed to US 35. As I was getting on my grandpa told me to look off to the side. I was confused and asked him why I was looking at a green lake. Then he started to tell me about how there used to be an Amusement Park right where the US 35 currently sits. I asked him to explain what the park was like, but all he remembered was that there was a wooden coaster. So when I got home I decided to look up Lakeside Park and there was a lot more information than I thought there would be. So I thought it would be cool to share some of the information I found with you guys and gals. This site has the most information: http://soaphs.com/lakeside/index.htm The Flying Turns roller coaster was the first of it's kind built: This is a picture of a postcard I found off serbagunamarine.com that shows a picture of the lake and surrounding attractions. I also found some more postcards on the Dayton Metro Library Website: http://content.daytonmetrolibrary.org/cdm/singleitem/collection/postcards/id/612/rec/8 And finally here is an aerial view of Lakeside Park that I found on the Dayton VA website: This is all the information that I was able to find about the park. If you guys have any other pictures or information please post it. Sometime in the future I hope to head back down to the site and take some pictures of what it looks like now. It's a shame that there is nothing left of the park and that there aren't many people that know the park even existed, but I had a fun time researching the park and I hope you guys enjoy the information I found!6 points

We came down to Cincinnati to do some renovations and such on our soon-to-be house and to visit relatives this weekend, as we have been doing for almost every weekend for about two months now. My mom said it was going to be a boring day, sanding the hardwood floors and priming the walls so she insisted we go to KI. Me and my brother were dropped off at around 2..? Platinum passes scanned and we walked in. My brother just reached 52 inches this year so he wanted to get back onto DB as soon as possible. We headed over there and got into the 60 min. wait line. I haven't heard anyone mention this but I like those little wheel games they put out in front of the rides where you can possibly get to the front of the line. I haven't played them, but I thought it was a good deal and creative. When we almost got to the front of the line, I saw this man run pass me on the Fast Lane side. His shirt said ' Diamondback rider 9,100 times and counting on the back. Lame pictures: IMG_9266 by KIC-Original, on Flickr IMG_9268 by KIC-Original, on Flickr Anyways we got onto db in the very back seats for a great ride. We headed for The Beast but also being an hour wait we decided to skip it. We went on over to Vortex which had its line going all the way out to Juke Box CafƩ, so we got on WindSeeker which had a 1 cycle wait. I thought that was a little odd, the lines were all over the place, some being 90 minutes while others were 20. The ride was great, got a good view of the construction. We then went to The Racer. Which had a 20 minute wait. I saw a KICer there who I gave a little wave too but didn't recognize me at all and he said 'hi' in a confused voice with a look in his eyes like 'get away from me'. xD lol oh well, feeling quite stupid we got onto the red side. Oh, and maybe im late on this news, but, the gate that always used to divide the two sides, is now gone. I really like it much better now. IMG_9270 by KIC-Original, on Flickr My poor brother being tall and boney rattled pretty hard with the ride, so I put my arm around him to give him a cushion of somewhat lol. Our side won, and we got off and went to fethas and got some food. We stopped at Viking fury afterwards. We went over to Adventure Express which had a 40 min, wait, weird. They didn't play the music going up the final hill which was kind of sad though. I got bored in line and made this: IMG_9305 by KIC-Original, on Flickr We went to Delirium next, an hour wait I believe. I got another good view of the construction, upside-down though. We went over to flight Deck passing the tall fence with 3 no camping signs'. IMG_9298 by KIC-Original, on Flickr Flight Deck had a usually short line, a station wait. The view of construction was the best, at least for a second as the car raced around the bend. We went to Invertigo, short line, we were offered a front/back seat and took it. Good ride, we went back to laroses for a snack t kill time for our final ride on db that we wanted in the dark. When we got into DBs line with some (sadly) annoying kids in front of me. They concluded that dbs lift hill was 50 feet. Really. They wouldn't stop talking to us, I think they were drunk on Coke... lol. Finally getting into the station we got in the back. It was a really cool ride. We headed for the parking lot and went home. Fun day.6 points

Gatekeeper restraints posed no problems for me. I still think the ride is brilliant. The more I think about it, the more I am convinced that Cedar Fair's future is in good hands.6 points

The number of times I've giving a crossing signal (though at Dollywood it's a two-finger wave/point in the direction you are going) when crossing a street or parking lot is actually a bit embarrassing. My husband (a former Beast op) has a pretty funny one too. After his 3rd or so day of work in 2009 (when you still had to say "check" each time you checked a restraint) he locked his car, tugged on the door handle and said "check.... oh dear lord." I've also found myself using KI radio codes on accident. I had an entire radio transmission/conversation with my supervisor at the Columbus Zoo in KI radio codes (he was a former KI rides sup) without even realizing it until later that day when someone asked what the heck we'd been saying.4 points

A big THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the event! The money raised for Give Kids the World at Kings Island and the other 10 Cedar Fair parks made this year's event a record year. I hope everyone had a fun and memorable day.4 points

Cedar Fair apparently didn't think so. It was doubtless a key selling proposition in attaining his current position, even if it was never mentioned. Find a position doing what you love and you will never work a day of your life!4 points

In other news, a server at Big Boy knocked over a glass of ice water, soaking the customer. The customer was given his meal. The manager said "We try to avoid this, but despite our best efforts, it happens."4 points

2009 - B&M Hypercoaster - Rumor - (6/9/08) Make the jump over to KICentral to see some great aerial photos taken of the park showing off the 2009 coaster construction site. In addition to the now complete splashdown lagoon area you can see theyāve been clearing more space out in the woods past The Crypt. ^Less than a month before the announcement (and exactly 4 years ago today)4 points

So now you're an expert in steel fabrication? I guess you work at Clermont Steel to know these things. (end sarcasm)4 points

Well I woke up this morning here in Mason at 4:30 got my son up and out the door by 5 a.m.. We were at C.P. front gates by 8:30 so I made pretty good time. They opened the gates and me and my son ran like crazy for Gatekeeper. We rode the left side front seat second train of the day. This was by far my favorite spot. I will always sit left from now on but I have to trade inside and outside with the boy..lol. Next we bee lined for millennium force, we wanted front seat but the one directly behind it was open so we grabbed it. As always an amazing ride. "I love this coaster". Next up was Maverick, it was almost a walk on since this was still during E.R.T. But I had to wait a few extra because I wanted the front seat. A few people on here have mentioned how it makes the ride. Well it was better but the combination of sharp twists in the track coupled with the fact that the restraints hit my ears make it a little uncomfortable for me. But still a wild fun ride. Next we headed to Top Thrill Dragster! Now I have only been to the Point on three separate days but this ride knows when I'm there and about to board. Last time I was very next to get on and it went down for 45 minutes. Today we waited for the front seat, got in buckled up pulled the lap bar and then were ask to re- enter the que line.. It was a quick fix though about 20 minutes and it was running. Now if you have never rode front seat on TTD this is something for the bucket list.. Wow what an experience. Well after the line and delay it was now close to noon and we still had not eaten so we headed for the hotdog cart by the Cedar Point Mine ride. With our platinum passes I got 4 1/4 lb hot dogs 2 bags of chips and 2 20oz drinks for $14.04. Not bad by amusment park standards. And the food was pretty good. Next we made our way to Mean Streak. I had already ridden front seat on this so I didn't want to wait a few trains for it and just took the first seat I could. And that will be the last time I ever ride this thing. My lower back hurt so bad after this ride, I have to swear it off. We left from there and the train was boarding so we jumped on and rode it to it M.F. Station. From there we headed to Iron Dragon which despite the sign saying 2 hours was a walk on. This ride would be so much better 10 mph faster. Next up was Mantis. Now I love this ride, everyone that says B&M doesn't build them with force should take a spin on this. Unfortunately the standup cars are kind of "gimmicky" to me. This one would be a 10 with standard cars. From there we rode the train again but this time full circuit. Now it was getting to be 1:30 so I thought we would head to the front of the park since I figured it would be clearing out "wrong". We rode the little cable car things the last bit to the front. We approached Raptor but the sign said 1.5 hour wait with an attendant right there I ask if it was accurate and she said with in like 20 minutes.. Yikes so we headed to Blue Streak and guess what? It had a half hour wait. Well we rode it and it made me curse Mean Streak a little more. Well now it was about 2:30 in the after noon and I ask my son if he wanted to just suck it up and get in line for Raptor or what? He said "no I'm tired and just want to call it a day" so we said good by to the park agin and headed home. We wear back in mason by 6:30. Not bad for a quick day at the Point.. But man am I tired now..4 points

Yes, we've noticed. I already brought it up on the last page... http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/27275-starting-to-decode-2014/?p=519781 Contradicting what? I don't have a problem with the jackhammering, it gives character. Mrs. Sexy does not like it due to the jackhammering. There is no new track for a different ride at the plant. That is a wing coaster going to europe. My source must be mistaken. I saw intamin track. Hook, line, sinker. Okay. Glad to hear you've admitted your "dependable" source was wrong.3 points

Last night, the Friends of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium hosted their annual Zoombezi Bash! fundraiser. Your ticket includes admission to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Jungle Jack's Landing, and Zoombezi Bay for the afternoon. At 7pm, when the park starts to close, you can check in and receive your wristband and drink tickets. It's important to note that this event is adult only, which gives you a rare shot at this park without thousands of screaming kids. The event takes place within Zoombezi Bay, at the park's adult only, 21 and over lazy river (yes, they have an adult only lazy river. It's heavenly.), and the Crocktail Creek bar area nestled in the center of it. A buffet dinner is provided, a live band is rockin', and the bar tenders were always willing to pour. After the meal was completed, members from the Columbus Zoo's promotions department paid a visit with several different animals. These animals aren't the ones you'll see on exhibit at the zoo, rather, they're the ones who tour with Jack Hanna and the zoo's promotions staff, serving as "animal ambassadors" for their species. The party lasted until 11pm, at which time you were able to take a leisurely walk through Jungle Jack's Landing, and even portions of the zoo, before returning to your car. This event was a blast - and raised a good bit of money towards a great cause. The Friends of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium describe themselves as: The historic Sea Dragon roller coaster at Jungle Jack's Landing rises just beyond Crocktail Creek, site of Zoombezi Bash Crocktail Island, the bar and sun deck nestled within Crocktail Creek, the park's adult only lazy river Delilah, a 9 month old gray Kangaroo, works the crowd with a member of the zoo's promotions team Mrs. PREMiERdrum spends some time with Delilah Fletcher, a 5 month old Fennec Fox Thor, an African Servil3 points

Ok, Big Sexy. I don`t know who you are, but I have been reading your posts for quite a while. I finally have to say some things. First of all, the vibration on Diamondback, only occurs in a few certain spots on Diamondback, mainly where the track is directly attached to the foundation. This could be a result of the ride foundation not properly absorbing the vibrations caused by the train. It is NOT caused by inferior quality standards at Clermont Steel. Diamondback is still far smoother than even The Beast, hands down. And why are you dis-crediting Arrow as a major player? Back in the 1980s and early 1990s, Arrow was THE steel coaster company. Look how many parks added their hyper coasters and steel loopers and suspended coasters, and mine train coasters. Name any major theme park that doesn`t have at least one Arrow ride. Not to mention that Arrow also made several of the log flumes, as well as the Antique Car rides that can be found at scores of parks. Really? I highly doubt you threw your season pass at him in disgust and didn`t return until Diamondback. Seems pretty silly to me. Then again, most of your posts have been very contradictory and lacking any real sustenance. I wish some people would understand the industry and business and realize that parks do not cater to enthusiasts, and just because one ride addition isn`t the ride you wanted, does not mean that it is not good for the park from a business viewpoint. Remember, that all capital expense projects are there to try and attract more business to the park and in turn more revenues. And yes, it took Kings Island a while to finally get a B&M ride in the park. I think that we have great things in store for us next season at Kings Island. I was at the park on Thursday, and think I have a pretty good idea of the layout as it is taking shape. I`m surprised no one has mentioned it yet...2 points

Can you be a little more specific? Which B&M coasters that you have experienced? I think it's because of the wheel assembly; the newer B&M's have stronger airtime, the wheels leave the track a little bit more. They bounce slightly. Jackhammering is an overstatement. But hey, Big Sexy over exaggerates on 80% of his posts. Goliath and Raging Bull are smooth. I always ride Diamondback in row 1,2, or 4 because they're my favorites so as far as I'm concerned it's the smoothest ride on the planet You can't convince me otherwise. Just how Thunderhead, Raven, and Voyage all 'blow'2 points
-
Yeah, you're probably right. Never mind. The triangle bases on Skyflyer are oriented differently. Sorry...my bad. Of course, that's assuming the new triangular footers aren't for the coaster.2 points
-
Is anybody else thinking that the SOB area will be used for two separate projects (or half phases of a project)? I mean, we're only see major work in the Thunder Alley and King Cobra areas and only a part of the SOB area. So far, there's still an entire non-major-work area that's open between say the SOB station and the rose bowl. So quite possibly we see something else in 2015 or 2016?2 points

The construction of route 35 pretty much obliterated any remnants of Lakeside. For those wondering what it looks like now, and this is nothing more that an educated guess but, the street that runs next to the roller coaster could possibly be modern day Kenesaw drive. The man with all the rides is Gary Coleman. He has been at it since the ride opened. Actually he just topped 9000 rides like in the last last week or so, so he got 100 in pretty quick. I guess he's our "Single rider Bob". Sounds like a nice trip. How late did you stay? It seems to me that the crowds are staying much later this year. It used to be that after 9 the lines would thin out as the families left for the day, but now it's always packed right up until 10:00.2 points

I dislike LaRosas Pizza in general, but inside the park is in no way similar to outside. Also, Kings Island skyline is laughably bad compared to a regular skyline. I don't get why those local companies let that happen. At least Graeters is still Graeters both inside and outside the park gate.2 points
-
We've noticed a difference outside the park vs. inside. My sister, who worked in Food at KI for many years, swears the difference is because the crust in the park is frozen. She prefers LaRosa's inside the park, I prefer outside but inside isn't half bad most of the time, as long as it hasn't been sitting there forever. I practically lived on the pizza in the park the summers of '90 & '91. There were many a time when all I would have to eat the whole day were two slices from the employee cafeteria while on break.2 points
-
As a life-long Cincinnatian, I will say (in my personal opinion) that the LaRosa's food inside the park pales vastly in comparison to what comes from the restaurants. The pizza sauce tastes similar, perhaps a little better outside the park, but the food in general is prepared much better outside the park. Also, LaRosa's has a great menu outside their pizza. Their hoagies and calzones are awesome. Also keep in mind I'm a west-sider, so I frequent the Boudinot store (aka, the original and THE best location IMO) a lot, which is a lot to live up to. Of course, being a UC student, I can attest that LaRosa's still falls short of quite a few stores in the area. silver2005, now craving Pomodori's and Adriatico's.2 points

I'm not really a ride op, but I am trained at most rides in my area at Busch Gardens for evacuation purposes. In reply to the OP: 1. Adventure Express 1. Beast (It's running really well this year!) 3. Flight Deck 4. Flight of Fear 5. Racer 6. Backlot Stunt Coaster 7. Vortex 8. Diamondback 9. Firehawk 10. Woodstock Express 11. Invertigo 12. Flying Ace Aerial Chase 13. Great Pumpkin Coaster In reply to The Beast conversation: I used to ride Beast expecting thrills, but I now approach it with the attitude of watching a 70's action movie. Jdawg is right--there are no real G's, save for the laterals just after the first drop and a few turns leading to the second lift. But that's entirely the thing with Beast. It's a strong start, then a bunch of straightaways and wide turns. The turns gradually increase in intensity, speed, and forces--and then they drop off the map entirely when you hit the second lift. It's about lulling you into a sense of security, then shattering it with the most intense portion of the ride. It's not the typical B&M progression of most to least intense elements during the ride, and that's a good thing--in my opinion, anyway. Beast is one of the few rides in the world that manages to theme itself without relying on props or a gimmick, and I think that's why it's as famous as it is.2 points
