This is getting weird. Anyways, when you see Banshee in person it looks nothing of DB or Firehawk's red as previously mentioned.9 points

Now that I got your attention with that wonderful headline (I'll explain that one later). I'll begin my TR for Kings Island on Sept. 29th, 2013. The day started with myself, my wife, and her little cousin (She describes me as her "roller coaster buddy" and we were heading to KI for her 10th birthday) heading out of Indianapolis. It was pouring down rain in Indy and we decided to shop for some ponchos as the forecast for Mason was continual rain after 2pm. We ended up grabbing some from CVS and that put us about 20 minutes behind schedule. About 30 minutes down 74 the rain stopped and the clouds lightened up a bit. We ended up getting to the park at 11:15. The park was dead. Every ride was a walk on. There might have been more employees there than paying customers in the park. Now my wife's cousin has not been on Diamondback or Invertigo so what does she decide we are riding first? Diamondback. Since there was no one there it was a walk on. She was pumped and ready to go. The queue gates opened and we sat in rows 3 and 4. As soon as we sat down she said she didn't want to ride and hopped up and left. We told her that we weren't going to make her ride anything she didn't want to so she decided to hop off the ride. After some talking to she decided she was ready to go again. So we went in rows 3 and 4 and she LOVED IT! After it was over she decided to ride again so we rode it 4 more times without a wait. Then we headed to Beast for a lap. After Beast I went to the car to drop off my backpack in the car while my wife and her cousin rode BLSC, Shake Rattle and Roll, and Zephyr. We met up at FOF and rode it 3 times in a row. Then we went on FH and rode it twice in a row. This is when the rain started. My wife and cousin rode Monster once and then we all rode Racer. After a "painful" ride due to stinging from the rain in the face, we decided to grab our jackets from the car and try out the Reds HOF Grille. The Reds Grille was pretty nice. The theming was nice. The menu was a little bit on the shorter side IMO. But they offered some good meals. I ended up eating the chili cheese fries while my wife and her cousin both ordered chicken tenders. The meals were good and the portions were pretty large. I would say the meals were well worth the price which we ended up paying $31 before tip. After food and waiting out the rain we decided to ride Boo Blasters. We rode it 4 times, I won all 4 matches with a high score of 2190! Then we headed to Diamondback and it was still a walk on we ended up riding it 7 times in a row with us not even getting off for the final 3 cycles . We headed to Vortex and rode it twice. This is where the "Soaked Booty" came. The rain gathered in the seats and thus soaked out "tooches." That stuck around with us for the rest of the day... The rain had stopped by now and we were going to ride WindSeeker but it was closed due to high winds. We then headed to AE and sat front row for 3 cycles. After that we headed to Drop Tower. My wife and roller coaster buddy didn't want to ride so I went for one cycle while they went to ride Delirium. Next up was FD. After 2 cycles in the back row we headed to Invertigo for our final ride. The ride was great and my roller coaster buddy loved it. After one cycle we headed to the car and headed home. The day was about a perfect as you could get. The weather wasn't as bad as it was in Indianapolis. We almost didn't go because we thought we were only going to be able to be in the park for a few hours due to rain. But the rain held off for the most part and was not heavy during the day. We were all very glad it didn't rain like it did in Indianapolis. Final Thoughts: -Banshee looks very similar in color to DB from the highway. You can tell the difference when in the park but most of the general public will probably think its the same color. I was hoping the ride would have been more like the renderings but the color is not what makes the ride, IMO. The construction looked to be coming along very well. -AE will offer very good views of Banshee from the queue line, the front row in the loading station, as well as along the ride. -The Reds Grille was a good deal for food and a nice place to eat. The food was good and the prices were similar to most sit down restaurants. Service was fast and good. - This was the third time I have been to Kings Island during a Fall Sunday and they are by far the BEST days to go. Today our longest wait was one train for any ride in the park. Almost every ride was a walk on. - My roller coaster buddy's favorite ride was Diamondback! She loved the speed and airtime!7 points

banks wouldn't be loaning on the full faith and credit of Kentucky Kingdom, new amusement park. They would be lending on the track record of successful local business person, Ed Hart. Even so, there is a limit to what the total liability they'll loan on one person/business. Mr. Hart has the success and enterprise to succeed in this- but even so, any time a bank elects to loan out in excess of 7 figures,, it is a risk. I don't think the success of Kentucky Kingdom for 2014 is in question. There is enough pent-up demand to span across an operating season. The sustainability will gauge itself in 2015 and beyond. I would look for increased innovation and "pomp and circumstance" after '14. If you want to attract a crowd, just light yourself on fire and people will come to watch you burn. If you don't have anything else for them to do, after the flames die down, they'll find something else to do. 2014 is their "fireworks" display- keep an eye on 2015.7 points

Since the crowds were beyond lite today, I decided to marathon Diamondback and sit in every row of the train. (some twice) I was going to try and ride in every seat of the train but the rain eventually got too heavy and decided every row was good enough. Maybe next week. My seat of choice has always been 1-3 so today was a good experience of getting to know the rest of the train. I discovered that there is a HUGE difference between the front and the back of the train. The airtime in the back is amazing. The forces also seem much greater. Getting pulled over the top of the hills and in and out of the turns is something you don't get in the front. The back of the train has a different "roughness" to it. Not that Diamondback is rough to begin with but you can feel more of the track in the back. The middle of the train is much less forceful and you just seem to "float". It's not so much "throw you out of your seat" airtime. A good place for beginners or those that aren't that into coasters. The front is great for viewing the ride and for "hanging" over the hills. The first drop is still amazing in row 1 or 2. I also discovered the hard way to NOT have your hands up while sitting in the last row and hitting the splashdown. The force of the water hurts when it hits your arms and you will get off looking like you wet yourself when it all runs down your arm and into your seat. I also discovered that some of the restraints lock in different locations than others. Usually, I have a few inches between my legs and the restraint allowing great airtime. Some of them locked lower squishing my legs. Sucked for airtime on those runs. Overall, It was a great day at the park after 19 runs on Diamondback and hitting almost all of the other rides in the park.6 points

I talked to lots of kids today. I was wearing jean shorts, a grean shirt with a shaved head and a goatee. Met lots of people today. One was a couple that was there for their 13th wedding anniversary so they were going to ride Diamondback 13 times in a row to celebrate. Rerides were a must on everything today! Had two kids in front of me on one run and one of them lost a handful of runts on the way up the lift hill. As we were dropping down the first hill, a Lime one seemed to flaot right down beside me. I tried to grab it but it was just out of reach.4 points

...like my grandparents! They're already complaining about Banshee. My family is moving into the neighborhood right next to theirs and our house is in the back of the neighborhood; you can see every ride at Kings Island popping out over the trees. I can't wait to hear the screams from Banshee next year!4 points

Banshee takes awhile to get ready and have all her work done to be able to go out in public.. Much longer than the normal girl. I advise against it.3 points

I think I could be able to see the inner beaty...The cool steel...The romantic colors...It's a match made in Heaven... If I'm acting like this now, I don't even want to know what this off season is going to be like.3 points

I've said it before, but I'll say it again. B&Ms are the sexiest things I've ever seen. Even though I'm already going with someone to homecoming, I'm tempted to ask out Banshee instead.3 points

After riding GK 16 times this past weekend I would describe the restraints like a car seat belt. When applying the brakes in a car your belt locks and you can not move forward, when that stopping force is no longer there your seat belt is more free and able to lean forward again. That is how I would describe the GK restrains work now.3 points

After riding Raptor several time over the weekend, I am so ready for Banshee!3 points

Brutal. I hope not many people end up taking advantage of this. The park yesterday was amazing! I understand the move is great from the business perspective of getting people in the park but from a personal standpoint yesterday was probably the BEST day I have ever had at KI.3 points

The park was DEAD. Even more after the rain. I was walking by Zephyr and heard the ride op say "For your safety and well, your safety..." There was only one girl riding it. It made me chuckle a bit. I would have busted your 21 rides had Diamondback not gone down at 6:30. While waiting I heard it was an issue with a restraint but it was from someone on a phone so who knows. Maintenance showed up, sent three empty trains and away we went. WindSeeker also was down later in the day. My son was upset he couldn't ride but has now taken a new liking to Delirium. Beast was walk on and rerides all day. Walked right in and rode 1-1 as well but unfortunately, it was around 6pm and the trims killed the ride. I don't think I have ever had them that bad. Hoping next Sunday is the same minus the rain. It made it a bit chilly with the addition of the wind. Guess it's time to start wearing pants and long sleeves to the park.3 points

Not in the house, but you can hear it when you're outside. Plus, when you're in your 70's, it can get pretty annoying...I guess. I can't wait to hear KI though. Plus, you can see the fireworks!3 points

If I end up seeing you this week I may bring a pair...it'll come close, but we shall see..Also for cold weather the 100% cotton ABU's are nice and thick, pretty good for cold weather.. Being a native Ohioan...I'll wear the ripstop abu (50% cotton, 50% poly) that's thin (our summerweight) and still be fine however haha2 points

He was just very, very upbeat and friendly. Even after like the 50th high five and knuckle bump he would still happily oblige with a smile. We worked out a fun, we worked out a secret handshake.2 points

^Correct...The OTSR is a hydraulically locked restraint, when the valve is closed, the restraint can only travel down pinning you more, not up past the locking point after being secured via seatbelt. The vest followed a similar matter, but reminds me almost of a ratcheting restraint. It would normally be the same as the OTSR, and if it went in, it locked more, however, this has either been reprogrammed, or something mechanical was changed to now allow the vest to have freedom of motion at all times. It has a slight bit of tension to keep it pressed up against you to control your upper body and restrain you, but not to staple you and crush injuries2 points

Sounds like an ADA violation...they should be able to reasonably accommodate anyone who must wear glasses to board and disembark from any ride....it could be unsafe to do so without the appropriate eyewear.2 points

Who knows? I've argued with them until they were blue in the face. No other California nor Cedar Fair park has such an inane, inflexible, stupid policy.2 points

Favorite b&m's are batman the ride, kumba, montu, raptor, riddlers revenge. Sub 2000 installs. I have ridden every b&m hyper in north america and the airtime lets me down. Most are smooth. I guess the reason I like intamin so much is that their cookie cutters are mainly built overseas. Here in the states the installations are world renowned and all are original: maverick, ttd, mf, supes, bizzaro, i305, el torro to name a few. To me all the b&m's built in this millennium are all cookie cutters.2 points

I don't know of any books about John Allen, but he followed in Herb Schmeck's footsteps at PTC so the book Herbert P. Scmeck The Forgotten Legacy would be a good read for you. If you are near Columbus I could lend it to you. The biggest thing I know is from Don Helbig telling us on a Beast tour that the secret to his success and his ride's longevity was that he placed his high stress elements close to the ground. Another trait of his was to have low floaty hills instead of a series of high hills. He passed this on to KI when The Beast was being planned, he also gave the crew at Ki his formulas and calculations on a place mat or menu at the International Street Restaurant when they were trying to coax him out of retirement. As a result all of the high speed turns and helix are very low.2 points

We love CP so much my wife and myself have been looking at houses up on Erie , looked at house yesterday on the coast east of Vermillion ( I guess it's about 30 miles from CP ) but sure enough you can see TTD an MF from that distance .Those two coasters are awesome spectacles from any distance .2 points

Personally, I have never noticed any "jackhammering" on DB. Smooth ride regardless of the seat. In fact, the back is my favorite.2 points

this issue comes from either the mother or the father unwilling to give the kids, who own the pass, their option to use "their" passes. Mostly the one parent paid for the pass and holds the pass but it really belongs to the kids. The forgot pass ticket is an option up to the 3rd time, then the problem comes from there. After 3, its $15 per pass to get a new pass made up. Then once the new pass is made, the other parent gets mad because they paid for the passes and the passes they hold are no longer valid. So to answer your question they can have 2 passes if they so choose. Each parent can have their own passes for the kids but, Its hard to believe that parents do this and hold their kids passes hostage or as a bargining chip I have purchased my kids season passes in the past for Christmas gifts and my ex purchases her own pass but we are civil enough to share in the fun of being at KI so they can enjoy the park, not try to hurt them and not enjoy the fun of KI.2 points

I think you're confused. KI did at one point have a hypercoaster that would allow you to experience both roughness AND jackhammering. But it's gone now. On an unrelated note, the iPhone will apparently attempt to autocorrect "hypercoaster" to "hyper pastry."2 points

Reason why we gave our guests Diamondback in 2009 is because it's the ride we wanted to add to our thrill ride lineup. We could have gone a lot of different directions. We wanted to add a B&M coaster. The ride has proven to be immensely popular, giving nearly 10 million rides in five seasons. The majority of our guests that ride roller coasters absolutely love it! Why is it so rough compared to nitro? With the jackhammering that has to scrub off speed causing the lack of airtime. Many veteran roller coaster riders -- those that have ridden literally hundreds of roller coasters -- have told us they experience an abundance of airtime on Diamondback.2 points
