  1. Another support piece. Edit - I kinda wanna play pond hockey on the pond. If only the ice would freeze more and KI invited free open pond hockey sessions. A hockey player can dream right

  8. Thought I'd share an interesting video I found on YouTube of Kings Island in 1991 (a fine year, I must say. ) It's been stabilized, which is why the frame keeps shifting all over the place (as opposed to being a VERY shaky video): It's relatively short, but in it, you can see and hear: -A relatively new Vortex that does not come to a complete stop on the MCBR -The theming on the KI&MVRR, including the town by the train shed -Kings Mills Log Flume, which woefully doesn't seem to have much video existing for it online -A few peeks at Adventure Village and King Cobra Unfortunately, there's also an on-ride video of Vortex. It's really distorted and looks like video of an uprising during an earthquake, but it's there. The posting of this video does not equate to endorsement or approval of the unauthorized filming on any ride at Kings Island. Please do not film on any rides the park does not permit guests to film on without permission, including Vortex.

  12. ^Nope that's it. It's a rendering provided by the manufacturer, CAF, to the city. That's the correct model and color scheme.

  13. The yellow and black striped poles shown in the first two pictures, which held up posters in years past, have been removed. This happened on the 9th and 10th of this month, so not a very recent development. Still worth pointing out though. Removal can be seen in the first minute of this time lapse.

  15. Knott's Merry Farm 12/18/2013 This day I saw the remainder of the shows I hadn't caught yet and rode some coasters as well. My first show was A Christmas Carol, which is a tradition at the Merry Farm too. LOVED it. The acting was...superb? The gentleman who portrayed Scrooge fit the part very well with his facial expressions and his overall acting was the best of all of them. XD I spent a good portion of the afternoon taking pictures of the rides and around the park. Ghostrider is still one of my favorite woodies, good enough I tolerated it two rides back to back. I could have done more rides...but I felt like I was neglecting my other two must do coasters there being Silver Bullet and Jaguar. Yet again there was NO line for really anything (Xcelerator was a walk on all day). I ended my day with Snoopy's Merriest Tree Lighting in Calico Square. A very good show, the elves are really funny, and the 40 foot tree is gorgeous. It's a really cute show for the full family, and the kids loved it when Santa appeared. Me personally it was the first non Haunt show I ever watched on that stage...I'm not used to it being so colorful and happy looking...I liked it, lol. That's what I got for the 18th, today is my last day at the park as I got Christmas parties to go to with extended family and friends before heading back to Ohio. Kudos to Knott's for stepping up their game this year for the Merry Farm! It's pretty and the shows are fun. IMG_0258 by ki_faerie_wench, on Flickr

  16. me thinks that KD is being creatively positioned, if you know what I mean. I think Terp is spot on that long-term, CF purchased the Paramount Parks footprint for profit. Meanwhile I don't think that 6-flags and CF will merge, I think that a few Six parks could switch into CF hands and opposite in the coming years. The only reason I could see Kings Island staying in CF hands is so they can "manage" the in-state competition. I think there was a little of that going on when they bought GL and when they tried to right-size it they bought the Island and GL became an expendable source of new rides for the chain to weather a rough economic climate.

  19. Don't sweat it. Especially if it's your first part-time job, no one's going to make a big fuss over references. The references I used during my part-time jobs were hardly (if ever) contacted, even well into my fourth and fifth jobs. And the contacts I made at THOSE jobs were never contacted for my current full-time job, even though I made it into a supervisory position at one of them. Once you get into full-time work, it seems to be more about who you know than who you've worked for. The bigger thing to be concerned about with ANY job is how you present yourself. Employers--especially those looking for part-time or seasonal help--want to hear that you're hardworking and dedicated. And if you tell them you're hardworking, BE hardworking. Don't promise anything you won't be or do. Several people I worked with didn't understand just how replaceable they were, so it was a surprise to them when their chronic laziness or argumentativeness resulted in them being fired. When you are at work, be there to work, and any employer worth working for will notice. Good luck!

  21. I don't remember what program he uses to make it, but Kevin Mcveen's company is http://www.3dvip.com. They produced the animation videos for Banshee and essentially everything else in the past 12 years. I remember reading (years ago) on his website that he used 3D Studio Max (by Autodesk). It is a professional level 3D modeling program, costing around $4,000-$5,000 I believe. He wrote that he developed many techniques to help model the track and supports quickly, since the program didn't have any built-in tools for that like No Limits. Before going pro, he posted coaster animations just for the fun of it. Even his amateur videos were miles better than the pro coaster animations out there. On an old computer somewhere I've got a few of them, including a cool recreation of the Crystal Beach Cyclone.

  22. What I would do with Oktoberfest: -Make it part of International Street (kind of like KD has the area with Berserker and Dominator), or call the area "International Festival" like CW has. -Festhaus could probably use a new name and a third restaurant added- I'm sure there's room next to Panda Express. That side of the building might need to be somewhat reconfigured, but it'd be nice to have a third "international" food choice- maybe a park-run option with rotating specials? The tables and benches would all be replaced with new, smaller tables with real chairs. Also, something should really be done with the entrance from Action Zone- it's so ugly right now. -Action Blast game should be either removed or rethemed to fit the area. -Some sort of boat attraction in the Oktoberfest pond would be nice but unlikely. -New flats in the old Skylab and Tower Gardens areas. -Give AE a clear place and time- this could be easily achieved with just a few signs and some theming in the queue tunnels. -Airbrush shirt place needs a sign that is thematically and grammatically correct. -More planters and trees!

  25. Just an FYI there are also couple other threads already with Blackfish discussions. http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php/topic/27946-blackfish-the-movie/ http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php/topic/28198-busch-gardens-williamsburg-cuts/ Orcas have the most sensitive hearing between 15-20 kHz, so basically the music is nothing more than background noise or similar to what we used to hear on our TVs as kids with the static snow screen. I don't like the loud music mostly because it is at times too loud even for me, so I would often find myself with my ear buds in listening to my ipod as opposed to the music at the stadium. I think it is up to the mods. Poor conditions? Again go research the Asia parks where the latest captured orcas are goin and then compare them to SeaWorld and then we will talk. They don't perform for food, they are given their food throughout the day even when they are in crabby moods. They aren't forced to perform as pointed out before. At the end of the day when the trainers go home at night...they are treated to a feeding frenzy sort to speak, so with that they probably overeat. Starved? Right....then I guess we imagined Tillikum's fat rolls throughout the 2000s, he really looked like he was starving. After the 2010 incident they started exercising him more and he finally dropped the weight and he looks like a normal bull now. (well sort of).

  26. Well that little road running from Cincinnati to Columbus and from there to Cleveland was a nice boost to KI. Makes it easy to manufactor word of mouth when literally thousands of people drive by every hour. Even in the 70s this was part of it. Personally, unless a catastrophic failure of financial or physical type, KI could be open for years, just thanks to the millions of people who drive by less than 500 feet (hyperbole) from the sign... How does 2015 and 2016 look to be downward? Unlike Hard Rock Park, Kentucky Kingdom has already set in stone improvements to the park that will be made. Both T2 and Twisted Twins will be returning better than ever. Hard Rock Park opened, but never showed signs of progressing, they were just trying to get by with what they had. Well, I can say that for sure, if funding is available, Im going to finish my basement and invest the 10K starting in the fall of 2014. But thats no more in stone than T2 and the twins returning. To quote Terpy..... Watch what they do not what they say.... Currently, lots of talk has happened... Currently, areas have been cleared, paint has been applied, I hope, for all parties, that they are able to continue what they say they will do. I wont count on lightening till January construction...

  39. Were it not for Mr. Geoff Raynor, the Knotts and Q, I doubt Cedar Fair would be intact today. Had Apollo gotten its mitts on it, Mr. Dick Kinzel and his cronies would be even more fabulously wealthy, and the company itself almost certainly would not being doing as well as it is today. The chances that Matt Ouimet would be running it would be somewhere between slim and none. These daily announcements from KD would almost certainly not be happening. Banshee neither. Son of Beast might or might not be gone.

  45. This I think is the epitome of Oktoberfest - 1987. Everything still stuck to their area's respective story, including rides spread throughout for a wide range of age-levels (additionally, German music, King Cobra in African area, Skylab in Coney, etc.). Why remove these rides? Why add rides and re-theme restaurants that don't reflect that area's nationality? Why ignore themed assets already there (i.e. this)? Oktoberfest isn't unique though - comparing all areas of the '87 park with today, you'll notice a slow degradation of the "international" and locally-themed placemaking. Anyway, list of things in this image now defunct: Der Spinning Keggers, Flying Dutchman, Skylab, Ferris Wheel, King Cobra, the whole Wild Animal Habitat area - almost everything. Image source: Geauga Dog, Theme Park Review.
