Construction crews are already on the Banshee site this morning...... It also looks like they got the crane back in upright position for some possible work throughout the day.10 points

My computer rebooted without me knowing yesterday, so I wasn't able to watch the captures like I normally would for this update. But from what I can tell, 1 support and 3 pieces of track were installed today. Link to gallery8 points

I can't imagine what the right answer is for this plot of land. Locals and their businesses lambasted the idea of a mega theme park for clogging their roads. Now half are shuttered because there's no one to visit their businesses. The idea of yet another high end outlet mall seems silly for that exact reason - the area is littered with closed businesses. The property doesn't have the accessibility to draw from the large urban areas, and the area doesn't need another outlet mall or strip mall. Certainly the goal here is for the land owner to make money, but it gets me thinking: just because a piece of land used to have some thing doesn't mean it needs some thing else now. In other words, if this parcel of land had always been unused swampy property alongside the lake, wouldn't it just be overlooked as some old grassy piece of unwanted real estate? But because it used to have an amusement park, something has to go there? What sense does that make? The area doesn't need a thing and can't support a thing, but because a thing used to be there, let's try to build some thing else?8 points

Not to mention a picture paints more than a thousand words. I've been here a very long time, both on KIC and on this earth. Never have I heard an image here must be accompanied by words. What Nick_Plummer did was brilliant. Each user can in his or her own mind paint their own words. To require the user to add words to a meme or image is ridiculous. It would actually restrict thought and discussion rather than add to it. Besides, were that the requirement, which it is not, virtually the entire Random Photos thread would be in violation. It isn't.8 points

Would LOVE for KI to bring back The Animal Safari, the Water Shows and the big slide! My brothers and I enjoyed those As children at KI and would love for my grandchildren to see them and enjoy them as we'll!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk6 points

Just a thought, the low level of season pass marketing could be intentional. Maybe. It could be that they want more people paying the gate price than fixed one-time pricing. As essentially a start up they don't want customers like me and my family that pay for 10 admissions months before at the price of two then use their facilities all season long. Probably would rather discount admission at the gate and make a certain dollar amount for each person all season. Ed is in media so very likely he knows more about timing than most of us... or at least knows people that do. They probably hired the agency of record to contract their media buys for maximum impact to put bodies in the park when open. Remember, they don't need 3 million the park like ki to be a success... More like a third of that. Aggressive season pass sales will be more important after this season.5 points

I'd still call and try. Most policies have a few exceptions. I'd mention this was a well meaning gift, but it's just not for you and yours.4 points

The best piece of advice I can tell you about all of your questions is that visiting Kings Island is a skill that can't ever be mastered. It's not like driving to someplace out in the country to unwind. You really have to be on your toes and be thinking all the time. Does this mean it's not fun? Of course not. I have being going for 20+ years, some members on here much longer. Just keep in mind there are things you'll learn on every visit that you go, and you'll probably always do something different on each visit than you did on the visit before that.4 points

I went to Kentucky Kingdom numerous times over the years and never recall any form of fast pass. I also do not recall the park ever being insanely crowded on most days, either. Then again, I have been going to KI for years so the crowds may have just been much less than KI. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

I got a puppy! She's "Bing-Bing," a tiny (she actually is the size of a Coke can) Jack Russell Cur/Chihuahua mix that my wife brought home (along with a couple bags of new pet stuff). Now, I already own a 70-pound female American Bulldog named "Snorfaleepoo," who immediately adopted the puppy(!) and has taken on motherly (rather than the intended sisterly) duties of caring for the cute little new addition to our family. Despite their size differences, they already have taken to playing with each other, and the bulldog has mastered handling the cur with gentleness. Cuteness overload! Video will be shared in the coming weeks.4 points

I wonder if they'll introduce a Fast Lane/Flash Pass equivalent. It'd certainly help with profits and the line issue. Considering the incredibly minimal advertising, though, I think crowds will be light whether they want them to be or not. (Did Six Flags management offer Flash Passes at the park? The Lo-Q/accesso system would definitely offer something unique to the area if SIX didn't already try it.) I'll be at Kentucky Kingdom as soon as I can. This is starting to feel like Hard Rock Park to me.4 points

Aurora Plans Mixed Use District Would Require May 2014 Election Former Park Property Still Not Sold Cedar Fair Said To Want To Retain Wildwater Kingdom No Mention of Big Dipper http://www.auroraadvocate.com/news%20local/2013/12/25/aurora-plans-mixed-use-district-for-former-geauga-lake-property Terp comment: There is much more here than meets the eye. I've posted this before, but here's a no-frill video of a visit I made in 2011. It's pretty much a whole day condensed into 3 minutes. I just watched it again today. Hopefully it can help someone's off-season blues just a bit!3 points

Because the property owner wants to sell the property, preferably for a gain? Because the owner wants to be shut of the potential liability and carrying costs? Because the local governments want to collect tax monies? Because the locals are jealous and resentful of Erie and Mason counties? Terp, who likes to ask questions3 points

And do not under ANY circumstance hide your car key under or around your car. Thieves are on to that. Some even watch for that. KI is, for the most part, one of the safest parks in America. But they cannot guard all of your unattended possessions. That's just the way it is.3 points

Thanks everyone, this has been so helpful. What a nice community of KI lovers... I am the opposite of a rollercoaster lover/ thrill seeker, so KI is not my ideal place, but I appreciate my husband's gift (thinking Soak City would be fun). I also appreciate all of your answers and input. Really useful info!3 points

Interestingly enough, when Ed Hart last owned Kentucky Kingdom, season passes, though available, were not stressed and were among the most expensive in the business. I believe they took at least eight visits to pay for themselves. Interesting that this time around, the former general manager of Carowinds and food director at Valleyfair has watched what happened when Dick Kinzel tried to convert the Paramount Parks cheap season pass model to Cedar Fair's 'pricing integrity' model--higher season pass pricing, parking NOT included--a near mutiny by passholders. Cedar Fair ended up refunding parking pass money to early buyers and including parking at the originally announced price. Already, Kentucky Kingdom has extended promotional pricing on the season passes. They are already priced absurdly low. Then again, the park knows what it is offering. We, at this point, don't truly know for sure.3 points

Yes, they do rake one another in the wild too as it is how they sort their hierarchies out. All animals that live in groups be it pods, prides and packs...do it in some form or another. Why animal rights extremist try to paint this picture that living in the wild is rainbows and unicorns is beyond me. Captivity is not, but neither is the wild. Wild bottlenose dolphins get extremely BRUTAL among each other in the wild even, I've personally seen that. Humans are animals, being neither plant nor mineral. Humans fight for dominance, be they domesticated or held captive. Some act out in various ways. Some constantly rub up against the built environment, others against the system in various ways. There are even those who believe we are ourselves being held captive by a higher power, with differences of opinion amongst that group as to how much, if any, free will we have. Documentaries have been made about that, too. Some are rather eerie, like Area 51. There was even a movement to release to the wild groups of humans previously labeled as mentally ill--some would say those releases have not been all rainbows and unicorns, but have instead greatly contributed to hunger, poverty, and homelessness; others just as valiantly insist that human dignity was served and the rights of the mentally disabled were furthered. It's all a matter of perspective.3 points

I would hope that in an effort to sell Season Passes, that one could get cheaper "fast passes" i e half off, that way I wouldn't have to fork out an arm and an leg to get my queue lines quicker. I'm going to Kentucky Kingdom ASAP, I will probably be there the opening week or so of the Kentucky Kingdom.3 points

In terms of scale and even layout it reminds me of Sky Rocket, just without a launch. This looks like a nice little ride, but if it's to be the park's major draw during its grand reopening, they better hope they crowds stay light (while simultaneously hoping they don't). My guess (which is of course unfair not having ridden it) is that waiting longer than thirty minutes for this would lead to quite a bit of frustration.3 points

I hate seeing my presents under the tree. I don't want to see any of my presents until Christmas morning. So my wife and I have agreed to keep each other's gifts hidden away until it's time to open them on Christmas morning. I don't like to see shapes or feel the weight of any gift with my name on it. I like to wonder what I might be getting and I like to be surprised. Knowing what's wrapped up underneath the Christmas tree already leaves absolutely no fun for Christmas morning, that is, except enjoying the new gift you opened. Just my opinion though That being said, any blu-ray, 3D blu-ray, video game, toy, or art book would be fine by me. I'm not too picky really.3 points

I loved the water shows and much of what's mentioned in this thread, having grown up with the park. I'd bring back the 'area' theming. That should be reasonably inexpensive beginning with music. For rides, oddly enough I'd like the flying scooters and tumblebug.2 points

The area, not the documentary. Though Art Bell could make a chocolate chip cookie recipe sound like an eerie conspiracy.2 points

Its about the money. Saying "hey all animals are mean to each other, either in the wild or captivity" would bring in no shock value. Its the same thing that I could tell you this. "If you asperate (food/liquid down your trachea/windpipe) you are more likely to get pneumonia and could eventually die. " Now how does the same truth sound " At night, most to all people will asperate while they sleep (natural saliva/mucus), but if you take time for Oral care (brushing of the teeth, mouthwash, etc) you should be a-ok. Also, most young people have healthy enough immune system, you can asperate food and be fine as well. However, if you asperate (food/liquid down your trachea/windpipe) you are more likely to get pneumonia and could eventually die." Same truth, one is boring and common sense, the other is shocking and makes you not want to put any food/liquid into your lungs. Same with these animal docs. If you think about it, of course all animals fight for dominance. But if you put it under a microscope and only look at a small subset, then it looks bad. The director admits she is not an activist just a mom with a question and an ability to make a compelling documentary. I would be interested if any of her early contacts or producers either had an axe to grind with SW or was against any zoos, etc. If this was the case its very easy to help create a mood with a movie. Honestly, to be a documentary maker, you only need to be able to ask a good question and find the answer. To be a good documentary maker, you need to be able to keep an honest and open discussion while getting information from both sides....2 points
