"Kentucky Kingdom construction not bothered by harsh winter." The story and video (which were published earlier today) can be found at the link below...... http://www.wdrb.com/story/24617959/ky-kingdom-construction-not-bothered-by-harsh-winter Quote from the article..... Well IMO, it needs some Intamin roller coasters for it to be compared to Cedar Point. On a side note if you say "Intamin" three times in a mirror, YoungStud will appear.5 points

Wonderful photos TG 1993! I even spied the Eli Bridge Ferris Wheel that once operated at Kings Island. Action Zone sure looked a lot different in 1993 when both the wild animal habitat and Top Gun were there. I think of all the areas of the park, Action Zone/Adventure Village/Animal Habitat area have seen the most amount of changes over the years.4 points

Lots of activity now that the cold isn't unbearable. Looks like some sort of vehicle in front of the station, not sure what is it/ what it has brought or is taking. There's a yellow... digger?... across the pond from the bier garten. side note, whatever landscaping was done to the right of Adventure Express looks nice and vibrant at this time stamp. Looks like the benches are gone.4 points

Not to mention blistered feet for those of us that didn't understand just how wet, wet could be!! That ride made me go to the park in sandals for years. My kids loved it, so I had to ride, even when I didn't really want to.4 points

The biggest, and most unpredictable, factor, by far, is rider behavior--both that which may have caused the e-stop and thereafter. Will the riders stay put til evacuated? Will riders keep hands, legs and arms in rafts during operation? For this reason, a few parks have installed restraints on these rides, a frightening thought in many ways.4 points

Crews are now starting to arrive at the Banshee construction site...... ....and the arrival of the first train could be any day now.....(including today) These webcams can be found here.4 points

I've ridden all the B&M flyers and Vekoma flyers in the US. I find B&Ms to be leaps and bounds above the Vekomas, but even within the B&Ms there are certain standouts. I find Vekoma Flying Dutchmen to be boring and often times painful. The restraints don't get along with well-endowed females. Of the three, Nighthawk has been consistently the worst. It seems to have been very poorly maintained, and it sounds (and feels!) like a rattling deathtrap. I rode it once for the credit, then again during Con 2012 for some reason. Last trip to Carowinds, I happily skipped it. As for B&M flyers, I was really, really looking forward to Tatsu last October because I adore B&M flyers and it had been really hyped up by everyone I'd heard talk about it. As a result, I ended up anticipointed (anyone remember our "KI Terms" thread years ago? Yeah, I definitely still use that one) because it wasn't leaps and bounds better than Superman. Sure, it was fun, but it just wasn't as amazing as I expected it to be. Among the 3 Supermans, I find SFOG's to be the best because the layout fits the terrain the best, so you end up with these awesome hand-chopper moments on some of the turns. And then ... there's Manta. I adore everything about Manta. The theming, the experience, the park it's in.... and no, I'm not biased because I just got hired to work on the crew, I have loved Manta since the first time I rode it last January. I was afraid of being anticipointed like Tatsu, but I definitely was not. I love it when rides interact with their surroundings, and Manta does a fantastic job of it. As for my overall opinion on flyers - I feel like the entire purpose is to feel like you're flying. The wide sweeping turns and in-line twists are what I feel like the coaster should be doing. I strongly dislike pretzel loops (I don't like intense positive Gs to start with) as it feels wrong for the type of coaster. I also do not like the loop and helix on the Vekomas. Overall, I'd say of the non-standard steel coaster types (flying, wing, inverted, stand-up, floorless, etc), flyers are definitely my favorite. Manta is my #3 steel coaster. Superman at SFOG was pretty high in my ranks for a long time as well. I haven't ridden a Zamperla ... but I doubt I will enjoy it. They look like they should be called "Pain: The Ride." And egads, those transitions. Did Arrow make a come back just for those?4 points

THE first rider for Thunder Run. I got...a great ride (and a 5 hour wait). A first rider for Kingda Ka, Medusa (now Bizarro), Shivering Timbers (another 4-5 hour wait), Legend, and many others. Shirts? No. If the park chooses to give out talismen, it can do so however it wishes or not at all. It really shouldn't be expected. It's not an entitlement.4 points

Adventure Express will have a much more open entrance, which will be cool. I think they want Banshee to be shown off as much as they can. Similar to Diamondback actually. Notice how the AZ circle is 100% gone.3 points

It's a terribly dangerous ride. When it first opened, I rode it and the line was 2 1/2 hours. By the time I got off, drenched it was dark and chilly and the walk back to the car I ended up with pneumonia. Most dangerous ride in the park! hehehe!3 points

Thank you for the amazing walk back through time! I was excited to catch a glimpse of Skylab in one of the photos. I have very clear memories of riding it in 1995, with two of my best friends. I sat in my friend Stacey's lap, and our friend Lyndsay sat in the front half of the gondola. It was the first ride I ever rode that went upside down and sort of got me over my fear of "big" rides. I rode Racer, my first adult roller coaster, later that day. I've never been able to clearly remember where it was in the park, other than somewhere on the north half. This places exactly where it is and fills in that hole for me! Because of the very fond memories I have of Skylab, Enterprise rides remain one of my favorite flat rides to this day.3 points

Stashua: I would think it's pretty silly to put the plaza in the middle of the midway when the ride's entrance is so far away. TB: I could understand where you're going with it, and I wouldn't necessarily be mad with this idea, but I feel like the lockers would be best placed by the entrance of Banshee since the lockers are intended for the ride.3 points

I hate violence. However, I strongly feel if you are physically attacked, fight back. I do not advocate abuse. Mental abuse, emotional abuse, physical abuse is wrong. I was bullied for years by a girl. She was the school bully and most boys were afraid of her. The bullying stopped when it finally came to blows. She threw the first punch, all I knew is I had to throw more punches that her. I threw three punches to each one she threw. No hair pulling. I punched her in the face repeatedly. I ended up giving her a left hook and she went up and over her desk. She was suspended a week. I was in in school suspension for a day. The teacher came down to the office once my dad showed up. She apologized to me about not stopping the fight. Then she told my dad this girl deserved her butt whooping because each punch I threw was not just for me but every other person she bullied in the past. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

The A Kid Again participants will be the first night riders. This is very special, for a very special cause and before opening day. Yeah, but many of them are, to put it bluntly, heartless dummies. And full of it. So park employees are "heartless dummies, and full of it" ?, Good luck ever getting to ride it without those very employees. Jumping to conclusions much? Test dummies full of water ride first. Thats what he's referring to.3 points

Love the FoF construction pic. I'd love to see photos from inside FoF while running with people. That's something I have never seen.2 points

Ok, I'm not sure if I'm just not seeing it or what, but how exactly would an e-stop on this ride cause major havoc?2 points
-
I don't think it will go anywhere. It fits for the exact reason you mentioned. Also IMO even though they are an expensive ride to upkeep (I always heard rumor that to run TC at CP cost the company thousands per hour to run) it moves a good bit of people, and if everything goes right there really isn't any downtime. It moves people effectively, and never really any complaints. The main complaint is the stupid "I got wet" or the annoying "I didn't get wet" complaints. Other than that, never really anything else mentioned2 points

You would never believe how happy I am to work in a park that doesn't have basketballs. I don't know if they just don't offer them, or if people just don't win them, but I've seen a whopping 2 basketballs on the midways so far working at Universal.2 points

I would hope they wouldn't put the lockers right in the middle. But it's definitely a possibility. I would imagine they would go a little closer to the bathrooms. Well that's just my guess.2 points

Maybe they are moving the plaza for Banshee there. I mean as people say renderings are not always final.2 points

I disagree. I beleive you have the right to defend yourself and if you find the courage to do so, you should be proud. I was bullied way before any anti-bully campaigns and teachers didnt care. I felt on my own because I was on my own. I do agree and support anti-bully campaigns, Sometime in your life you are faced with problems and everybody deals with it in their own way.2 points

Back when I was a kid White Water Canyon was a 2 hour wait, this last year I went 14 times and every time It was never more than 30 min wait. Hope it always stays open, its always a nice refreshing break from the heat with a lazy ride down a river. You dont notice its man made, it feels like a white water cannon.2 points

No joke. They are literally the first riders. To think a strong industry supporter like me would speak of park employees like that? That's the joke. Seriously.2 points

Personally, I think KK and KI can coexist. Heck, they did for years, even with Six Flags doing their best to fail. I can say that, as a Louisvillian, I liked KK (pre-Six Flags) because it was local, it had decent rides for its size, and I was there in 10 minutes. I can maybe make it to KI two or three times in a season if I plan it well. KI is an event for me. On the other hand, I can hit KK any given day, ride a few rides, hop back in the car and be at the zoo before the gates close. I consider that a good thing! From what I've read, nobody involved with KK has any delusions of beating KI. KI is a totally different beast (hyuck, hyuck). Don't be putting words in my mouth, I did not imply such. I am just presenting the logic in the web searches. I have hopes for KK, I really do, but I don't pick sides before opening date. I won't even make such an conclusion untill the end of the season, or at least near the end. Like I said, I'm not picking sides, but I will be frequenting the park and I have high hopes for its success, just use logos while discussing this subject, and try, for the sake of your ethos, don't take a side. Sorry, I think we must have gotten our wires crossed here. I wasn't attempting to put word in your mouth, and I certainly didn't mean to make it sound like I was arguing. You asked if this was a David and Goliath situation, which to me sounded like you were seeking opinions on whether or not these parks will have to compete with each other. I'm of the opinion that neither park is a threat to the other, for reasons I've already mentioned. I didn't think you were taking sides, especially since I don't think there's a fight. 1. Rhetorical Question2. Of course they will! They are both in the near vicinity of HW, KI competes with HW and vice versa. KI competes with CP, roughly less to KK in vicinity and KI had a 2 park deal, so that idea that people commune that way can work inversely. If you look up that allusion, David defeats Goliath, David wins, Goliath falls; though, with that also it means a little guy vs big guy situation, which are unknown in any case. Rhetorical BB1, by the way, welcome to KIC. Seems a truly rhetorical question wouldn't generate controversy. I don't think you should assume that Kentucky Kingdom is attempting to compete with King's Island, especially since Hart has clearly stated that they will not. The two parks will have significant overlap--they always did--but, as I said, they don't necessarily attempt to meet the same needs. KK is a small, local amusement park whose demographic will be predominately locals and families who don't necessarily desire the Big Park experience. King's Island's demographic is...well, almost everybody. And if you look at KI's attendance during KK's operational years, there really is no "KK effect" there. Flip the script and you'll see that KK grew and maintained very respectable attendance up until the point when Six Flags decided to fail. This would suggest that these two parks have and will coexist peacefully. Now, KK vs. HW, there's where competition will be a factor. And I know the story of David and Goliath. Thanks for the summary, though. Again, I say there's no battle to be won or lost, so it's irrelevant.2 points
