Son of Beast would also like to say "Hi", as would Hades 360 and all those vintage looping woodies from before the Great Depression in the 1930's.8 points

I agree 100%- drop size is FAR more important than height. Which would you find more intense- a 50 foot tall coaster that dives over a cliff edge for a 200-foot drop, or a 300-foot coaster with drops no larger than 10 feet? I'll ride the "tiny" one.5 points

Nothing this park does right will get noticed, when ANYTHING even remotely negative happens, it will make the headlines.4 points

A small fire at Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee was quickly extinguished, according to the amusement park's communications manager. The fire was on the roof of the Goliath station and caused "minimal damage," according to Six Flags. Park personnel quickly extinguished the fire, officials said, and Gurnee Fire department crews were called to investigate. No injuries were reported and officials said the fire will not affect the ride's opening. Goliath's initial opening was scheduled for May 24, but was halted due to "delays in the final touches." Great photo^^ That was a fun ride. Thanks so much for the help. Its taken me a few years to now...off and on. I thought it might have been something I only imagined the last few attempts in searching for it. EDIT This really is the best 'parks, rides, coasters' site I have ran across. There are others...but I like it to check in here daily. I also really like that younger dude over at Roller Coaster Philosophy. His view on The Beast is one of the most accurate descriptions I have ever read on the ride. I wish he updated more.3 points

Don't you mean Hulk SMASHes Banshee? (I don't share that opinion, but had to get Hulk's favorite word in there!) Row 4 is definitely my favorite, but by default since that's the only row I can ride in!3 points

I get it. They still make a few bucks on the drink, even with the meal plan. But come on - the meals advertised come with drinks. That's asking for confusion. If I was the King of King Island (not saying I'm not [yes - I intentionally said King Island]) I would just not include drinks in the combos. In fact, I find it to be kind of a nuisance since it comes with the regular size drink with no apparent option to upgrade to the larger one unless you want a refillable cup. What they're trying to do is avoid people using their meal plan like a drink wrist band or getting a meal when they're thirsty and wasting the food. How bout it, KI?3 points

Interesting ride. I've never seen or heard of anything like that. Sounds like fun, I want to ride one!3 points

Your description kind of looks like this. http://www.flatrides.com/rides/img/ADCWaltzer1.jpg If you look up Waltzer now you will find a Tilt-a-Whirl type ride. Not sure it this ride transformed into something else or changed names or what.3 points

When? Which ones? How were they busted? Note also that Six Flags is near virtually every major metro market...Cedar Fair isn't. Cedar Fair: NYC: no Chicago: no Dallas/Fort Worth: no Atlanta: no St Louis: no Meanwhile, Cedar Fair has parks in places like Shakopee, Minnesota; Allentown, Pennsylvania; Aurora, Ohio and Sandusky, Ohio. And some New Yorkers would sneer Cincinnati! That prejudice against Cinci is about as accurate as many's against a Six Flags they haven't been to in years. For instance, Six Flags was recently headed by the former General Manager of Kings Island, the former Chairman of Paramount Parks. The Flags of today is not the Flags of the midterm past. It is far, far better than that. And it's not really a competitor of Cedar Fair. I daresay that Matt Ouimet and James Reid-Anderson understand each other's companies, respect and admire each other and borrow best practices. Gary Story and Dick Kinzel, and their business strategies, are gone. Who did all season dining first at a seasonal park? What seasonal chain first adopted virtual lines (and still does a far better job of it)? Who started in park advertising on a wide scale basis? Where was an event like CP's after hours party first done in a seasonal park? Who started selling refillable souvenir mugs? Which seasonal park chain first widely adopted no loose articles on large coasters? Yep. And questions can just as easily be formulated the other way. Those who only see the best at their favorite chain are missing out.3 points

For those of you who aren't cool enough to follow KIC's Facebook or Twitter, here is an interesting photo. The cast pulled their injured comrade on stage to take a bow with them at the end of the show. You never know what to expect. Worth seeing again and again!3 points

^Cups of water were attached to sides of the cars. People with the least amount of water when they came back were eliminated... I'm not sure exactly how the whole contest was carried out, but all I know is that 200 or so people participated, 10 people walked away winning Platinum passes, and it was't over until 11:30 am, as it probably too a long time to narrow the down the winners... EDIT: Fixed2 points

I remember seeing it at the state fair many years ago. I'll bet that another company bought the patent and renamed it to something else.2 points

I don't remember the year, but I know it was probably later in the 80's...like 88 or 89. I know I was older than ten. I even remember the location it was at [Not that its helpful]: http://imgur.com/ZM1RzyL'>src="http://i.imgur.com/ZM1RzyL.png" title="Hosted by imgur.com"/>2 points

Sounds like a variant of WF Mangels Whip. Let me research a little. Nice diagram, btw! EDIT: Wow, that's an elusive one! Do you remember which year it was when they had it? http://www.flatrides.com/rides/whip.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_F._Mangels2 points

Haha....Tobaggans were great...when you are eight. It felt good to be strapped into a cramped metal shoe, going straight up in the middle of a missile silo that is 99 degrees in the winter. Only to spiral down in an uncomfortable position and to hit your head on the roof multiple times on the little bunny hills at the finale. They actually had PADDING above your head on the roof [if you were lucky]. And being young, riding them, was perfect...because your little frame bounced around the caged shoe even more. It was like going down a hill in a metal barrel.2 points

I can't wait for Sunday. A great time, with great people, for an Awesome cause!!. For those of you that want to complain about the rule changes, all I can say is please take a good look at yourself. This is not about roller coasters, its about making a child feel good during a time of pain and fear. For those of you who are participating on Sunday( riding or not) can't wait to see you.2 points

The Boo Blasters ride at Canada's Wonderland is shorter and, like Kings Island, does not light up a target to indicate where you're aiming. And yet, I had no trouble getting about double the score I normally get at Kings Island. I have a very strong suspicion the issue in this case is not the riders being a poor shot, but the blasters being wonky.2 points

Just thought I'd share a little anecdote here. A good family friend who unfortunately lost three children to Cystic Fibrosis was very excited when she found out that we were all raising money for Give Kids the World. She stayed at Give Kids the World Village many years ago with her children, and she wanted me to forward her thanks to everyone on here for caring about such a great organization. She also wanted me to let everyone know that she couldn't think of many causes that could be more worthwhile. Let's keep up the good work, guys. Adding up the displayed totals from each park as listed on the website, we're over $100,000 chainwide, and that's awesome.2 points

They have a Great Dane! That was another high point, to me The rescued Turtles brought tears to my eyes. People can be so heartless sometimes. Only downside to the trip was an electrical malfunction at the Ray Encounter meant that I could not feed them.2 points

These rides can he improved upon. Got a score of 16000 on a similar style "shoot em up" dark ride this week that was half as long. The ability to see "where" the gun is firing, helps greatly.2 points

Glad you had fun! yeah...the kitties and much of the animals they have in the pet show all either came from shelters or were dumped off at SeaWorld. It's a shame but I like what SeaWorld does for those critters giving them a chance to a active life.2 points

We decided to add a third park to our Florida vacation. Our visit to SeaWorld today was by far the most enjoyable of them all. The mix of rides and shows plus all the animal habitats was amazing. The kids never stopped smiling and enjoyed the kiddie area. Manta was my favorite Coaster out of the 14 (sorta) of them that I experienced this week. My love of Rays made the queue a thing of beauty. I then spent nearly an hour petting them before leaving. The Orca show was amazing, such beautiful animals. Those that diss the park without knowing what they do there are nothing more than windbags. The park is filled with rescued animals, from Cats to Manatees. I recommend everyone visit this park at least once in your life.2 points

This makes me as disappointed as when Ring Racer was initially to become the fastest roller coaster in the world. (Ring Racer) http://rcdb.com/4161.htm Apparently, not nearly as fast as it was originally planned. Sigh. Kingda Ka will still have the biggest drop. Which is ten-folds more important.2 points

I tend to like the older coaster logos better than the newer ones (although Banshee's is pretty frickin' cool!). I loved Demon's, King Cobra's, the original The Bat's (not really a fan of the new logo) and the old Vortex logo with the metal hand clutching the twisted track. But... I had to go with the ultimate classic logo, The Beast. There's just something about those claws with the busted chains that always provoked a sense of wonder... I wonder what the rest of that beast looks like? It can't be seen, just like the coaster itself can't be seen from the rest of the park. You can only see the claws, and because of the broken chains you can tell that it's powerful, just like the coaster it represents. I also like the way it was modified for The Beastie's logo, with younger "puppy" paws!2 points

If you do decide to go to Balloon Glow. Show up early. Typically ride lines do not get bad until late afternoon. The big draw is of course the balloons and fireworks. And be warned that the capacity of Wipe Out, with only twelve seats, is not that great. So it will likely have long lines.2 points

AE is one of the most popular rides in the park. It's a great transitional ride for kids and adults. It's unlikely to go anywhere anytime soon.2 points
