  1. Sean Flaharty posted a video on August 28th that makes me so nostalgic for Tomb Raider: The Ride that I could just about cry: I've wanted to see video of Tomb Raider's media day forEVER, and that music and the video of the queue and that MUSIC and the fact that you can see the door to the preshow open with music and lights and THAT MUSIC. GAH. This video doesn't do the original ride justice, but it's the closest dang thing I've ever found (apart from a full queue walkthrough video I found several years ago that I've since lost and never recovered.) I hope you all enjoy this as much as I did.

  2. Regarding the keeping secrets blog post, kudos to the enthusiast that found the trademark and kept it a secret, letting the park - and all the park fans - have their fun.

  4. ^And for some of us, the park looks very different WITHOUT it. In 2013, it was not necessarily "bad" different or "good" different, just different. Though the thing that went where it once stood is definitely a good different in my book.

  5. Rough and violent are two different things. El Toro is violent. It is not rough. Son of Beast was rough, it was not violent.

  6. Yep.....tells me steel & wood doesn't mix. Lesson learned?

  7. I did front row on both Mean Streak and Blue Streak when I was at Cedar Point a few months back. Both were actually quite enjoyable...no complaints here

  8. Oh Mean Streak. Last time I rode it last season with a friend, we both got off with headaches that lasted for most of the day. Rode it once this season and ignored it for my second visit. I want to like it...but eh. Some rides are worth having to ride a certain way to enjoy it. This one is not one of them for me. I think it is fascinating that this ride (and others) gives such a wide range of experiences and strong feelings.

  9. I don't say Mean Streak is rough. Possibly banal, dull, lackluster, prosaic, insipid... I consider it the Goofus to the Gallant that is Blue Streak. Maybe you just don't like airtime? What you you consider Kings Island's Racer?

  10. I hope that some day (hopefully in the near future) Kings Island will once again become the home of one of "The most highly themed, totally immersive, dark ride adventure" experiences in the amusement industry..... But until then..........We wait.

  11. I would not want to be at Six Flags America after dark. It was a much rougher crowd during the day than any park I have been to. We never stayed close to dark when we used to go to KK many years ago.

  12. If last weekend was any indication of how things are going, Thunder Run was literally a walk-on all day. On a Saturday. With beautiful temperatures and crystal-clear skies. On a coaster that runs one train. Every single time I went to ride it, there was at least one row in the station with nobody in line for it. So, in what should be ideal circumstances for drawing a crowd, they couldn't reliably get 24 people in line for one of their flagship rides within any given two minute period. And, this was with their only other (non-kiddie) coaster down for well over half the day. Things aren't looking so hot in the Hartland.

  13. I miss the DJs as well. Although I absolutely despise the song "Love Shack," now because of Cedar Point.

  14. You mean they couldn't care less. I miss the dee-jays. They made Cedar Point and Great Adventure special. Then again, hard to upsell line skipping systems if people are actually having FUN in lines.

  15. The presentation of that ride is a shell of it's former self. IMO, that was the last attraction where CF really dove into the overall experience of the ride. From the time you entered the line to the time you left the exit it was a full blown assault on all your senses. Unfortunately, it seems like they could care less about this aspect of their rides now which is a shame because that's what made CF rides stick out more than the others and ultimately, a cut above their competitors.

  17. ^ It wouldn't make it any less boring of a ride.

  18. #Jonathan update! If you happen to be attending any University of Cincinnati Bearcats or Cincinnati Bengals football games this season, #Jonathan will be on the west concourse. Say hi to him if you didn't see him at Cedar Point!

  19. I love the people pretending to be statues, I love when people think that they are statues and then get scared when they move. ( This is usually at International Street at the front of the park.)

  20. Love Mean Streak! I don't know why the ride gets so much grief. Blue Streak is just a cool, old, classic ride. Wouldn't be right if it was smooth as glass, now, would it?

  23. 1. Beast. What can I say that's not been said? Best nighttime ride ever. Can't wait to ride after midnight this fall. 2. Diamondback. Everything I like in a coaster. Tall and lots of ups and downs 3. The Adventure Express. Even with the theming almost gone these days, it's still a fun ride and great at night. 4. The Racer. Great nostalgia. First non-kiddie coaster I rode. 5. Kings Island & Miami Valley Railroad. I still ride this on almost every visit. I miss the scenery of how it was when I was young (80's). 6. Kings Mills Log Flume. I love the ride through the woods. 7. Flying Eagles. I miss snapping the cable. 8. Grand Carousel. Classic 9. Top Gun. I remember when the now-way-too-long queue line was actually packed ha! 10. Smurf's Enchanted Voyage. I enjoyed the seasonal change during the ride. I wish camera phones were around then so I could revisit how it looked.

  24. While I happen to really like Blue Streak, I just want to say thank you. Thank you for saying nice things about Mean Streak. It's my favorite woodie, and I, too, do not understand the hate for it. It's often lonely in the Dinn fan club. But it's a club that somebody has to be in. -Homestar92, enormous fan of Mean Streak, Predator, and Thunder Run.

  25. Try the last row of the train. (Actually, don't.) Out of my 3 maybe 4 rides on the ride, I rode the back on my last ride and that was my favorite seat! My last ride in that row left me with a headache for the next few hours. Nothing else has ever done that. Considering that you liked Son of Beast enough to put it in your username, your tolerance for such things is probably higher than mine. As always, individual results will vary.

  26. That's what I think makes the ride so fun! (The upward flinging, not necessarily the hurting aspect.)

  27. ^^^ ...both of which are wheel seats. On Blue Streak, sit in the middle row of an individual CAR (not middle of the train). That way you won't be sitting directly over top of a wheel, and you won't feel the bumps nearly as bad. Trust me, it makes a HUGE difference. On Mean Streak, I am unable to comprehend how in the world you failed to find the second row excessively rough. Wow. Your definition of "rough" is clearly different from mine.

  28. I think Mean Streak has its decent seasons. I don't find it amazing, but it's not the worst ride ever. Blue Streak I actually find to be a lot of fun, and I'm curious to know where you sat when riding. It's definitely a violent ride, but the airtime in the first car usually more than makes up for it, in my opinion.

  29. In the front seat, it is a great wooden coaster. In any other seat, count me out.

  30. Just for the sake of avoiding confusion and so you don't have to read back: the park has made it clear that SR&R will be back.

  32. Haunt is honestly my favorite time of year to see the park! It is all tricked out with an interesting soundtrack, cool lighting, and fog effects, and last but not least the monsters and all their blood and guts! Then it is also the best time to get some night rides in on your favorite rides. I love driving up to the park and just see this thin layer of fog rolling out into the parking lot. It gives it a very eerie and creepy feeling, which I am all for! Christmas and haunted house season are a close tie for me... Don't mind seeing them mixed together during Haunt season as well.

  33. First time at KI this year, the last operating week of August, Sun till Thursday. Got lots of friends in for $15, no lines, except for Firehawk. They really did their homework for Banshee, the seating is fantastically comfortable, all transitions on the ride are smooth. Until now,Top Gun at Carowinds and CA were my favorite inverts, now Banshee. Would like to see all the others converted to this style of restraint. However, some of the girls found the restraint a little constricting. I found front seat the best, wait time was no more than 3 trains.

  34. I despise the running of the bulls in that episode for a totally different reason. Taft, with creative control, condoned running in the park. Something it never, ever allowed, by the way. And now....

  36. Next time, be sure to ride in middle row on Blue Streak, and I guarantee your ride will be a night and day different from what you previously experienced.

  37. If you sat on a wheel seat on Blue Streak, I can see how you thought it was rough. Next time sit in the middle of a car, as to avoid this. I've had some really smooth rides on that coaster when doing that. And I 100% agree with jcgoble3. Mean Streak is pure torture in any seat other than the front row.

  38. Guess I shouldn't say everyone. I have just heard it before and I was surprised when it wasn't at all rough.

  39. Love Mean Streak! I rode it at dusk and the screeching the ride made with the combo of a few bumps, it was an amazing ride! What caught me off guard the most was the fact that it stops on a fairly steep slop right before the station. This is defiantly up their with my favorite wooden coasters!

  40. I, for one, have never claimed that Mean Streak is rough, and actually enjoy the ride..... ....TheBEASTunchained.....Wondering if he is included in "everyone".....

  47. This thread is a heartbreaker. I operated this ride during one season (with The Eagles). I haven't been on the Troika in a looong time but just seeing it on every visit reminds me of simpler times. I hope it returns. I visited Kings Dominion for the first time ever this summer and I freaked out when I saw their eagle ride haha.

  48. I have this episode forever saved on my DVR. I watch it way too much. My mother often told me of being in the park and seeing Bobby and Cindy during filming of the scene where they are sitting on the bench eating popcorn and ruining their appetite. ha!
