  7. Not to double post, but I see the Facebook commenters are already up in arms about how "lame" the new addition is. Little lesson for all of them, in case they stumble upon this thread somehow. Flying Scooters that are physically located in the children's area of an amusement park =/= a kiddie version of Flying Scooters. That is all. Furthermore, admission costs aren't increasing (to my knowledge) and no rides are being removed. Don't like it, don't ride it, plain and simple. No loss to you. I'll be happy to not have you in front of me in the line. You just got a 24 million dollar coaster. Let the families and the little ones have something to enjoy. Our coaster lineup is phenomenal, and frankly, it was even before Banshee was built. Our flat ride lineup and our childrens' area were in desperate need of attention, and now they are getting it. This is a win for the park in every conceivable way. No, they aren't our old scooters. Frankly, if anyone really, honestly believed there was ANY chance we were ever getting them back, they are delusional. The kids and the general public will not know the difference, and Cedar Fair is far too intelligent to take a successful attraction from its new home purely to appease a relatively small group of enthusiasts. And if you're an adult who doesn't want to ride them because they're in the kiddie area, then frankly, you don't deserve to ride this wonderful ride. On a busy Saturday at Cedar Point (whose scooters are in a children's area), I rode their Eagles several times with no more than a couple cycles waits. Meanwhile, on a dead weekday at Kentucky Kingdom (whose scooters are not in a kids' area) I typically had to wait several cycles to ride. Narrowing the demographics to whom an attraction is marketed means shorter waits for everyone who wants to ride. It was a great move. SR&R is returning to Coney, so that section will be just fine once again in terms of flats. If you happen to be the one person in the world that really, REALLY loved Snoopy's Splash Dance, then I guess you have a right to be a little upset. But personally, I don't know anyone who even cared that it was there, let alone enjoyed it. Facebook commenters: The lowest common denominator of humanity.

  12. After the announcement, Don handed out a few extra flash drives with the press release and renderings. He gave me one, so I assume it is OK to post the images here. They are uploaded to my Flickr account in my "unowned images" album, clearly labeled in the description as being copyrighted by Kings Island and Cedar Fair. Starbucks building: Planet Snoopy rendering: Thank you again to Don for giving me these.

  13. Putting them in Planet Snoopy keeps families from riding together...how? Adults can ride many of the attractions in that section even without a child (Surf Dog, Woodstock Express, and The Log Flume among other things) and Flying Scooters usually have a 36-inch height requirement, which lines up well with many kids attractions. And it is not unheard of for this type of ride to go in a kid's area or park. This actually does still go with Ouimet's image- location really doesn't factor in too much when determining if families can ride together. They can still do just that in Planet Snoopy as well as they would in Coney Mall, Rivertown, etc etc. Unless it's you hate the fact the Scooters are being dropped in a "kiddie" area, and you refuse to touch anything with that label- TV, Books, Video Games, Movies, etc etc. In that case, I feel a bit bad because then you miss out- sometimes, stuff made for kids can be better than what adults get. And to Goodyellowkorn: Oh...yes...that name is so full of win.

  15. (Hartland photo posted for relevance) Notice, as Terpy mentioned, two speeds, with the dial set to the lower speed. Notice also the orange thing on the bottom-right. That is a foot pedal. The ride operator must have a foot on that at all times the ride is running. When they let go, the ride will begin slowing to a stop, ending the cycle. If you snap one of these sets, and the operator has never witnessed this phenomenon before, it is quite likely that they will be startled. When startled, they might jump a bit, causing them to slip off the pedal for a moment, which ends the ride cycle. And that's the story of how I accidentally caused a bunch of people to get a shorter-than-expected ride on Professor John's Flying Machines... Even in the low speed, the Larsons are fairly snappable. Not as much as the old set now at Carowinds, for sure. But better than most. Much better than the Bisch-Rocco set at Holiday World, so at the end of the day, the manufacturer does not completely determine the snappability of these things. No, it wouldn't be OUR Eagles. And we aren't getting them back. Technically, that's speculation and I don't KNOW that, but I'd put good money on it. There are children in the Charlotte area that love those things as much as any of us did. They are a part of Carowinds' identity now. Sad for us, but true. That said, while the Larsons are not AS good as that set, they are solid flyers, and unlike the ones at Holiday World, they are better than nothing. I've ridden three sets of the Larsons (Darien Lake, Hartland, and Cedar Point) and they are pretty consistent, too. If we were getting a set, you could have a pretty good idea what to expect out of them if you've ridden another one. For what it's worth, I think Flight Commander's pad would be a great place for a set of flyers. The slight elevation above the main midway could provide some snap-friendly wind conditions too.

  17. ^^^ Oh, sorry. Yeah I kind of did overlook the "Family with Teens" demographic- my bad. That group will likely miss out on what's probably going to be a solid ride because it's in the "kiddie" area, and not know what they are missing. Which is kind of sad because Surf Dog and RFYLCB (Log Flume) likely already get hit. They still put up great ridership numbers, and are popular enough even without that group. And reading Terpy's post, perhaps we "win"- shorter lines for us if those teens refuse to step foot in Planet Snoopy. I have only been one 1 set of Scooters- the ones at Holiday World- and I actually even enjoyed those, and if those are a "bad" set then I really would like to see what even a "decent" set can do...

  23. It depended on who was in the park. Sometimes, a group of snappers would quickly clear out the line!

  24. Limited capacity. Before, there were many, many days the Eagles line was long, and the sign "Singles Will Be Paired" was rigidly enforced. I am THRILLED they are going in the kiddie area. 25. Hey I'm a long time visitor to this site but just created a profile. Is it just me or is the announcement on Kings Islands web page missing the part about the petting zoo? Also I am super excited to see the return of the eagles. I rode the Lake Erie Eagles at Cedar Point and had a blast. They were pretty slow to load though. I am just not that thrilled that they are going into Planet Snoopy instead of putting more things around the park that families can do together.

  26. The Picnic Grove will have a new entrance. No doubt that's part of the reason the theater is leaving. Not a bad idea, either. That'll make it more accessible to groups that book and more obvious that it exists at all for groups who might want to book but don't know that's an option. Also great if they return to using it for Snoopy's Halloween Party or similar events, so they can keep all the activities in one general area. When reading that the Planet Snoopy theater will become a petting zoo, did anyone else think they meant the Enchanted Theater inside the dark ride building? I hoped that ventilating fans were part of the conversion...

  27. Man. There kid's area is ranked number 1 to begin with. Now they are adding this, that is going to be a good fit. I wish it could have gone somewhere outside of Planet Snoopy but thats ok with me.

  29. Putting the scooters in Planet Snoopy goes directly against Mr. Ouimet's desire to have rides that the family can and want to ride together. I would have used the Flight Commander pad and kept the rest of the changes in Planet Snoopy.

  33. A guess: Flying Scooters. This short of a notice before an announcement screams "small flat ride." WindSeeker had only a week or so between the announcement of the announcement and the announcement itself. Not that I'm getting my hopes up, but wouldn't it be neat to see the original Eagles return to KI? Or perhaps they'll just cover additions that don't warrant a large announcement on their own. Fountain upgrades like at KD or Wonderland, the "sequel" to Cirque Imagine, and/or another equally significant feature could, all together, be a decent announcement for tomorrow. Whatever it is, I'm definitely interested!

  34. This thread is not about what is coming to Kings Island ride wise. This is about what rides would be great to have in the park it's self! So, to quickly start off. My thought was the Downdraft at Knoebel's Park (Video by ThemeParkReview (Can't you tell?))

  35. Big difference. Great coffee does not equal Starbucks. As Terpy would say.....How soon they forget. Or as I would say.....How much they never knew.
    3 points
  36. For exactly that reason (as Terp has pointed out) I'm thrilled about the location. Capacity. Lines will likely be shorter in Planet Snoopy, especially at night. This does mean no night rides in late September and October, but as with all things, give and take. The scooters at Kentucky Kingdom are not in the children's area. In my visits, they frequently had fairly long lines, and that's at a park that does not get nearly the number of visitors as KI does. Just food for thought. This is a good addition. Not to mention, Planet Snoopy is very open, while Coney Mall has trees, coasters, and fairly big flats to block wind. That matters in terms of scooters. Look at Stricker's. There was a time when their scooters were fairly snappable. Then they moved them to the area between the two coasters, and snapping is nigh impossible. On another note, I second the petition to instead name them the "Flying Beagles".

  37. Glad to see the addition of a petting zoo. My younger kids love the one at CP. It always has a decent crowd and finally, I won't have to fight with the kids that always want to go through Snoopy's Splash Dance when they aren't dresses for water play but now I kinda feel bad for not letting them since they no longer will have the chance.

  38. They do need a better variety throughout the park. As it is most of the park is high thrill rides and roller coasters...which aren't exactly family friendly, imo.

  45. I'd definitely have to, on a very serious note, choose the Flying Eagles. On a semi-serious note, I'd say that it would be very neat to see Son of Beast return as an Outlaw Run style RMC steel coaster. BUT.....Phantom Theater is still up there on the list....

  46. Or...Six Flags Darien Lake opened an awesome new ride called Superman: Ride of Steel. The riders were meant to be restrained such that they could not stand up, nor prematurely exit the trains while the ride was in motion. There were, however, no seat belts, and the T-bar restraint system was notable for its minimalist design. Media Day came, the coaster opened. The next operating day came and went. On the next day, early in the day, a rather large guest rode the ride without being completely restrained for at least the last third of the ride cycle, if not all of it. The ride became, at least for that rider, a stand up. And he exited on a bunny hop. In front of his small daughter. He was injured, but survived. Seat belts were rapidly installed. Sadly, it was not to be the last of similar incidents. Some of the unrestrained guests did not survive. There have been major train modifications several times since Superman: Ride of Steel opened that fateful week. (Note that B&M has not had similar restraint issues. Note also we are not only talking about INTAMIN here. See Texas...)
