Construction crews are moving at a very fast pace on the new front entrance area! It looks like they were testing earlier today. A friend of mine who was dropping off paperwork to the park, saw a train on the launch track. Not sure if it did a full launch test today or partial launch. Also, I confirmed with Holiday World via Twitter that the control booth would be above the track like at Cedar Point on the roller coaster, Gatekeeper.5 points

Cedar Fair certainly has been investing a LOT of money into Carowinds. I mean not only are they getting new front entrance buildings, they got a nice new parking toll plaza at the end of last season as well. Maybe it helps that Cedar Fair has a satellite corporate office in Charlotte.4 points

Can't wait to see the final product of the main entrance/bridge project. Should look very nice.4 points

The park has publicly stated that there is no direct relation between Fury 325 and the Charlotte Hornets basketball team. The hornet / honeycomb theme is, rather, indicative of the Charlotte area and that is where both team and ride get their identities.3 points

I'm glad your staying on, you were my first thought when reading the post. The KI Pet Day Care was great, and I really appreciated it, and my dog loved the attention, but if the employees are treated fairly, I can accept it closing. I looked up the Red Dog Pet Resort and Spa on the web, and was glad to see they had separate areas for small dogs and old dogs. (They have a Reds Fan Suite!). I loved the KI Pet Care because I knew my dog was safe, with his things in his own separate clean kennel, and we could take a break and have lunch with him, but the Red Dog looks promising, we'll just drive to dine with him. Shark, it was a nice little kennel, with good size space for each dog and tall separation fences between the dogs. It was always clean when I saw it. Once, I went to walk my dog, an attendant had just brought him in from walking him, she didn't need to do that, but she did. The employees knew we loved our dogs, and the AC was a godsend for my Scottie.3 points

Missing the park in the off-season is not a new thing. From the 1978 employee yearbook, Kings Jester: For me, these boards are what are helping me make it through the off-season.3 points

I believe there are warnings posted around the fountain at CW mentioning the use of special effects/lighting during the show, but I can't say for sure. I am not aware of a coaster named Face/Off, can't find it on any roster as a current ride at Kings Island! Just teasing you! Or Timberwolf going away...I'd much rather see that go away. I can take one ride on Invertigo a year....Timberwolf...I haven't gotten a good ride on that, well ever since I started visiting Kings Island, the Fun and Only.3 points

We used it when I was little. We had a Husky/Shar Pei that had major separation anxiety. I would have sworn someone on here said the inside was getting dated and that there were parts that were not ACd? I could be getting my kennels confused.... But in reality, the doggy day cares and dog kennels have grown so much in the last 5-10 years. Gone are the days where a nice sized concrete slab with cage are the norm. PetSmart offers "suites" with tvs and beds. As you mentioned this other place has a Reds Suite. Long fenced in runs, air conditioning, dogs talking on the phone, day camps where the dogs play all day. This is what is happening. Personally, I am not surprised to see it go as there is just too much competition these days.2 points

Lol, no worries! I had to give you a hard time! I would have done the same, so I expect no less!!!2 points

^ I haven't heard anything about a media day event yet, and I also haven't heard whether it will be one that coaster enthusiast clubs are invited to..... I'm guessing an announcement about that sort of thing will be made toward the end of this month.2 points

That ride terrified me when I was around 6 or 7 haha I would love to experience it now.2 points

That clip perfectly illustrates how much we miss our parks in the off-season. Even when KI was just beginning to grow.2 points

Maybe it's just me, but that seems like not much change for the $$$ it would cost... I think it'd need a little more to it than that to justify the cost. Truthfully, I could see The Beast getting Rocky Mountain'ed before Racer, and personally I would be more curious to see it on The Beast. Blasphemy, I know, but I think it would be far more interesting and unique IMO. But I'm not sure either has a high probability of happening. My guess for why someone made an RMC conversion of The Racer instead of The Beast is probably because of the hype from Twisted Colossus, the conversion of Colossus at Magic Mountain. Another possibility is that many younger people might not realize how legendary The Racer actually is compared to The Beast. If it weren't for The Racer, the coaster that brought back the coaster, there would be no Beast, which is a wooden coaster built within the terrain instead of having airtime hills. However, like you said, it would be interesting to see someone convert The Beast on NoLimits. In reality, both should be kept the same, in my honest opinion.2 points

True. There are some among the public who still ask if Vortex goes upside down or not. While standing in plain view of it.2 points

NoChickens do the Indy tradition and keep that tradition going. I would, even being at something you'll enjoy just as much won't keep your mind away from wanting to be where you have been many years before.2 points

It looks like the Newport Aquarium is adding a 100ft rope bridge across its 385,000 gallon shark tank. The bridge is set to open mid-April along with a new otter exhibit in mid-March. In addition, the aquarium is acquiring multiple new scalloped hammerhead sharks. Source: http://www.attractionsmanagement.com/detail.cfm?pagetype=detail&subject=news&codeID=3134721 point

Predictions are hard, especially when they are about the future. -- Yogi Berra That being said, I'd lay very good money that within fifteen years, ONE company will own both what are now Cedar Fair Entertainment Company and Six Flags Entertainment Corporation. That makes predicting Kings Island's wood coasters' futures far more difficult than it otherwise would be. Having had the misfortune of riding what was the once glorious Comet at The Great Escape, a member of the Six Flags Theme Park family, in New York State last summer, all I can say is "Ouch!"1 point

I like all the water rides at KI. But I'll only ride WWC if I don't mind being drenched that day.1 point

When I was about 13-14 years old and new to wearing contacts, I had to pay for them with my own money and they cost about $70 each eye. That was long before disposables, so if anything happened to one, I had to pay that much to replace it. I knew there was a big splash on the observation deck of (then) Amazon Falls, so I closed my eyes as the water shot toward me and my friends. Unfortunately, one eye must have been slightly cracked open, and the wave was almost as intense as a firehose shooting in my face. I thought my contact was washed away, and was not happy with the idea of spending the rest of the day at the park only able to see properly out of one eye. Fortunately after a minute or so, it became apparent that my contact had just gotten folded and shoved up above my eye behind my eyelid, and I was able to take it out and replace it. That splash is no joke.1 point

Sorry for the lack of judgement I showed in the previous few post on this thread. I was at that time in a down slope of life and let things that had nothing to do with the situation take blame. I have gone back and edited the post. I feel that I have purged all the negative things out of my life and feel much better now. I don't know what I was thinking. All I can say is that it is good to be back!1 point

A memory of Kings Island a few years ago, a man was using his phone on the bridge on Congo Falls, I guess he didnt know that he could get wet while on the bridge, but it happend, and his phone got ruined and he was cursing up a storm. I never really noticed, but is there a warning sign about getting wet on the bridge? The best warning sign at Kings Island is definitly http://northeastohiofamilyfun.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/White-Water-Canyon-Kings-Island.jpg I like Congo Falls, but im more of a White Water Canyon kind of guy.1 point

Still nasty in 2014. But a good way to cool off on a hot day. And there is never a line. And a nice little pop of airtime on that double down hill. Congo Falls is much more thrilling than others that are much taller with straight drops.1 point

Not sure what you could replace it with either. That space is very limited. I want to see Racer stay as it was the one that terrified me to the point that my mother had to bribe me to ride it.1 point

Here's a photo of Cincinnati Reds All-Stars Brandon Phillips and Todd Frazier enjoying a ride on Kings Island's tallest rollercoaster, Diamondback. Hard to believe Diamondback enters its 6th season at the park when it opens in 66 days! https://twitter.com/reds/status/5651028955157053441 point

There is lots they could do with the front gate aside from revamping the aesthetics.. Revamp the restaurant (assuming the Reds HOF grille is performing as expected) to offer that experience during regular park hours, perhaps a premium upgrade to include patio dining/viewing during the fireworks. Bring it up to code for ADA compliance (allegedly an issue I've read on this site?). Perhaps open up on select days prior to the park opening to offer breakfast (or dinner on Fridays during the Haunt). Perhaps make it available for rental during the offseason (or even in season potentially) for holiday parties, large gatherings, weddings, etc... Perhaps even add a food stand on the perimeter of the park to offer guests another option for when they're leaving the park, hopefully freeing up some of the places near the front entrance to start cleaning up a little earlier. offer electronic ticket kiosks, hopefully enabling customers to get into the park a little quicker, add perks to their season pass, purchase future tickets, etc... I usually come mid-week in the evening, so the ticket line is sparsely used at that point, but on the occasions that I've come on a weekend early in the season or during the Haunt, it seems like the line backs up a decent amount. The intent behind the electronic kiosks would be to get people into the park a little quicker, a side benefit would be reducing overhead. Modify the guest services counter. It seemingly meets it needs, but it also feels dated and stale. Overall, I like the experience you get when you pass under the restaurant and all of a sudden are hit with the sound of the fountains, a little breeze and the view of the Tower, so I'd incorporate that experience into any redesign, but as a certain NON expert, I see potential to update the look, make a couple different areas to increase revenue as well as a couple of different areas to reduce costs. With many other CF parks getting new front gates, I think its only a matter of time before KI gets their facelift, to what extent we shall see. As far as the fountains, you could run them on any time clock you wish, I'd agree to keep some version of the show thru the course of the day, but if the intent of the fireworks is to keep patrons in the park until the very end, likely increasing the spending of said visitor inside the park until the end of the day, I'd save the best "water show" until the fireworks, incorporating lighting along with the water effects that would make families want to come back and stay thru the evening every year. How many people watch the fireworks from the parking lot? You can see them just as well from out there, so they hurry back to their car watch them soar into the sky, then get out of the lot before it gets too crowded, perhaps even hitting up McDonalds on the way home for a bite to eat. The changes above could help KI pick up some of that money/time that their patrons are spending outside of the park. Offer a little more seating, particularly in the shade near the front gate for patrons who want to pack their lunch, but prefer not to eat it out by their car.1 point

I found out two weeks ago when I was informed about it. I visited the new Red Dog Pet Resort & Spa and it is like comparing a Motel 6 to the Ritz, there is no comparison. While one is just basic place to stay, the other has far more luxurious amenities and with a higher price to match. I will see what happens between now and when the park opens up in mid April. I was ask to stay in Guest Services and I requested to stay in the same department in a job that I had performed in the past at the park and prior to rejoining Kings Island.1 point
