  1. ^ Good luck on your interview! Since you post here, make sure to pay special attention to the company's rules about what you can (and can't) share via online platforms. (As an example, if you take a picture at the park while going for an interview, you can't share it online because it was taken from an area currently off-limits to the general public.)

  2. If Cedar Fair ever does business with Rocky Mountain Construction, I hope Kings Island receives an Outlaw Run style coaster, not an Iron Horse conversion of any of our current woodies.

  4. 24... 24?? What does that specific number make you think of? OH YEAH! 24 days... as in we are just 24 days away until Opening Day at Kings Island! http://www.themeparkinsider.com/flume/200904/1167/

  5. PETA would accuse Universal's Islands of Adventure of mistreating owls... and then go morbidly silent after learning they're animatronic.

  6. There's nothing wrong with a woman wearing men's cargo shorts/pants, either. I bought a couple pairs of men's shorts from Old Navy last year, and they served me very well. I already owned some womens' pants with decently sized zipper pockets, that I wore last spring, on cool mornings during the summer, and at Haunt, but they weren't nearly as convenient as the cargo pockets. So, I already have bought two pairs of men's cargo pants in preparation for this year. I'm thinking about converting all of them from buttons to zippers, for convenience and security, too.

  7. First time i rode Banshee, i kinda was not ready for that drop. So, my back kinda "snapped" and i could'nt breath throughout the entire ride. Second time i rode i got in the front and it was an A+ ride

  8. Two words: Cargo shorts. Preferably with zipper pockets, or failing that, buttons. I don't trust snaps or Velcro. If you have someone in your family who knows how to use a sewing machine, they can take a pair of cargo shorts without zippers and convert the pockets into zipper closures. Oh, and fanny packs are not allowed on Banshee. Another reason to switch to cargo shorts.

  12. Welcome to KIC! More than any other day, the weather plays a huge role in determining crowd sizes on opening day. In mid-April in Ohio, the weather could be any combination of rain, snow, sleet, dry, 40°F, 80°F, sunny, cloudy, calm, and/or windy. And none of those are mutually exclusive. I suggest holding off on purchasing Fast Lane until the week of Opening Day when we can actually see what the weather will be like. And if there's precipitation of any kind or temperatures below around 60°F in the forecast, wait until you actually get to the park and see what the crowds are like. Fast Lane rarely sells out.

  19. I'm not guaranteeing no one will ever have a problem, but I personally never have had any issues with Velcro- (or Velcro-like) enclosed cargo pockets on roller coasters. That being said, I do feel better with buttons or zippers. Zippers are way more convenient. The one only time I've had something come loose on a ride was a pair of magnetic sunglass clips (the kind designed for that eyeglass frame). My head bumped against one of those horrible OTSRs on Mantis and they were knocked right off. Luckily, this happened after the final inversion so they were caught by the floor. I don't even have those glasses anymore but I'd never do it again. They did hold on Dragster just fine, though..

  21. 1st time I rode Banshee was opening day, I got trampled while walking to the ride once the park opened. I am pretty sure I was the 1st person to enter the park, lol. Lost my group ( found them by the ride). My friends dad didn't get to ride because of the bag rule. I wasn't scared, I was so excited. The 1st drop is my favorite part.

I wear the pack under my shirt and they cant see it. Yes, they do offer them for females. And just because they can't see it doesn't change the fact that you are violating posted signage, which is a misdemeanor under the Ohio Revised Code.

  24. I think you're mistaken on the target, the video was taken on a tour at Warner Bros. Studio in London, not at a Universal Park. And even if it were at Universal, I think the inference of a Disney connection is still quite a bit of a reach, to put it mildly. Especially when you consider PETA's opposition to Disney's Animal Kingdom in its early years. As for PETA, I'm not a fan of the organization in the least. I'm all for animal welfare, but they definitely take things way too far and represent the extremist end of what, at its heart, is a good cause.

  25. I'll not lie, if I lived closer, I'd love to be a litter gitter.Tower Gardens is in such a sweet section of park, I do sit there a lot for a break. It does need some major upkeep. It always surprises me to see people reading books there. I guess I'm rambunctious, I wouldn't take a book to a theme park- I don't even take my phone.

  27. I thought my job was going to be so difficult and I wasn't going to like it the first day I stepped foot onto Kings Island territory as an employee. Boy was I wrong! I loved every second of it! I also didn't have to deal with rude guests. I worked inside the employee cafe and it was really fun! I made a lot of new friends not only at my stand, but with the other employees as well. Most of the employees who worked last year are very nice and friendly and I'm glad I chose where I wanted to work. This will be my second season at KI and I am determined to make it better than last year!

  28. You have to make your themepark job fun in order to love it. You can't just walk into Kings Island to work and say that it will be a cakewalk when it won't be. That is alot of people's downfall.

  31. You can't always go off of what your friends say. As much as you trust them, they may not have ended up liking it, because they may have gotten written up for something that they actually did (they may have said they didn't do that), they may not have got the location they wanted, they may have been working with a group that was all drama, etc. As Terpy said, you can't wait for the perfect job to come by...you may wait forever. Jobs are trial and error. Heck, I've worked in food and retail for 10 years, yet, an opportunity came up for a better job, I don't dare say perfect, but I'm enjoying every minute of it. It works for me. Each and every job you come across has pluses and negatives. You have to strive to make the pluses worth more than the negatives. As far as taking fun away from a place you enjoy so much...uh, you would be working at Kings Island! Depending on what department you are in, there are some great things that can happen. If you are in rides...you may get to take test rides before opening, mid-day and at closing. The park also hosts ride nights for the associates (how cool is that?). Your associate ID is a platinum pass.....you can go visit other Cedar Fair parks without paying to get in or for parking! Do yourself a favor, learn how working at KI can be good for you instead of listening to the "horror" stories of friends.

  34. Thanks for the reply Gabe. I did read that in the thread earlier, but as I watched some of the video out there, I was getting some doubts if these new versions did indeed snap. I have had, like so many others here, some near religious memorable rides on our long lost Eagles..ha! So, without having to travel to Knoebels or Carowinds to get a great flyer ride again would be a dream come true! Thanks again for the feedback!

  35. If you do food, try to do the smaller, walk-up stands like Potato Works or the Coney Mall Skyline. They have smaller patios and are generally easier areas to work compared to Festhaus or the Reds HoF Grille. I-Street's LaRosa's patio is massive. I had to close what was then WINGS once and didn't get out until well after 2 am on a 10 pm close.

  36. Given chicken's recent surge in popularity at fast food chains, combined with the price of this commodity dropping sharply, I would think that KI would allow it to remain on the dining plan. Both beef and pork are rising in price dramatically, so don't be shocked to see that burger or brat costing a bit more this year. Look on the bright side, though-summer gas prices are predicted to be the lowest in 5 summers, so that trip to and from the park won't put as big a dent in your wallet this season

  37. It was a legit listing. There was an article in the Orlando Sentinel yesterday describing the owner as a bit of an eccentric. Apparently he is a co-founding member of Burning Man, so he indicated that the car may make an appearance there. Or, he said, it may just tour the country. He was interviewed as saying he really had no real intent to sell the car; he simply put it out there to generate a bit of publicity, which it did.

  38. Hi! I read these forums daily but don't post much, but with the new flyer addition, I'm pretty excited. They do indeed look nice. I liked the thought of calling them the Flying Beagles myself, but just so beyond happy to have a new set of flyers close to home. As a long time fan of the original Flying Eagles and their snappability, I have a question about the new Larson versions. Is it possible to snap them? I have not had a chance to get a ride on these new versions yet, and I've watched some video online of them in action. Looks like fun of course, but I did not see anything close to the wild rides that our original Eagles gave. Just wondering if there are versions of the Larson model that can be snapped? Thanks for any feedback!

  39. So what does this story have to do with Universal in Florida and targeting Disney competition? Seriously you are grasping at straws seeing as the article is about the Harry Potter tour at Warner Brother Studios in London and has zero mention of Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Disney, Florida or the USA. These are the misleading tactics that a group like PETA uses to sensationalise a story.

  40. That's something we've been considering, but have kept ours with us in case someone needed to contact us in an emergency. Is it possible to have them contact the park and have us paged or something? I'd love to not feel like i have to carry my phone.

  42. Call me silly but that makes sense to me. Why go if you don't want to/aren't able to...... CAMP OUT? For us it was mainly because I wanted to take my three year old daughter who would not have done well with the camping (especially in hindsight after the whole monsters in the middle of the night wake up) I wanted to go to participate in the ERT and other benefits of the event and really did not mind not getting to camp. Also Cedar Point was kind enough to let me have an extra guest as the original rules said you could only bring one if you were staying at the hotel. I also got the promo rate at Hotel Breakers for both nights. It was a great deal and we had an awesome time. There was plenty more to the event other than just camping...

  45. I have worked at an amusement park now for fourteen season (we just started hiring at Coney for the 2015 season), and I have loved every season. Granted, I started off as a ride operator, and have since transitioned into a rides manager position at Coney. It is a fun job. Yes, the hours can be long, the weather unbearable at times, and the pay not the greatest. But like others have said you get to say you work at an amusement park. How cool is that? To this day I still find that awesome. Even as a manager at Coney, I like to get out and run the rides. Seeing kids having fun and their smiling faces on the rides as they make memories is priceless. I still remember a day I was working my second season at Coney. It had stormed around 4pm, and we reopened after the storm, even though there was no one left in the park. We stayed open because their was a group from the Boys and Girls Club that was expected to arrive around 6. They did finally show up. I was working the now defunct Spin-A-Ree ride at Coney. One of the kids that got on my ride that evening made my day in so many ways. As I let him in the ride area, he said "I remember you from last year! You are the guy that let us ride helicopters over and over without getting off and you were giving us high fives when we did finally get off." Things like that make working at an amusement park so much fun. The other perks like occasionally getting to test ride are also fun too.

  47. EVERY job has negatives and pluses. If you wait for the perfect opportunity, life may pass you by. And most jobs vary greatly depending on who is doing them. Bright, eager, enthusiastic people get treated differently than dry, monotonous, work to the book types.
