I was riding on the Little Miami bike trail today, and there is a little section that goes behind Kings Island. I couldn't help stopping and listening to the sounds of KI. They really are awesome. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk8 points

Sorry to butt in, but I wanted to register so I could reply to this (long time listener, first time caller). I was at HW's media day and one of the VPs said he asked B&M about a launched flyer, but B&M said they wouldn't do it because the trains are simply too heavy.8 points

The sea lion trainers own that RV. They lived there all last year in case of medical emergency for the animals...7 points

Exactly why I try and not rank coasters when people ask, "try" . I love Gatekeeper as well. Every coaster is what it is, and every coaster is better than my couch.7 points

At Coasterstock, inline for The Bat. An obvious CP fan on his first trip to KI. " Oh, it's gonna be just like Iron Dragon." I really should've waited at exit, some things are not like others.7 points

You can fly up and around Kings Island. The only stipulation I see pulling out my VFR maps is it's within Mode C meaning at an altitude of 4,000 feet above ground level, if you're flying in that area, you have to have a transponder on and sending your altitude to the control tower operating in that airspace. Aside from that, you're good. I think the only other stipulation I could remember is I think around structures such as this, you're supposed to stay clear ~500 feet or so. But that may be for fixed wing aircraft only, and with a helicoptor or other rotorcraft, different classifications may exist. I'm not rated for any rotorcraft, I only hold my recreational license for fixed wing, single engine.7 points

I remember last year when a guy, who looked liked a bodybuilder, was freaking out because he said the Diamondback looked "too scary", so his girlfriend had to calm him down and eventually went on the ride. (Diamondback was on Extreme Coaster Wars, I watched yesterday on my recordings.)6 points

The road construction worker who was killed last week on I-70 received less news coverage in my Facebook feed than either yesterday's Diamondback evac OR the pigs that were spilled in the wreck near Xenia. My husband didn't even hear about the worker being killed except from me, but he forwarded me a link to the story about Diamondback tonight. I don't really know what to say about it except it has to do with a combination of media sensationalism and the public's desire for such sensationalism.6 points

Please don't try to compare news coverage of car accidents to news coverage of safe roller coaster stoppages. The difference is that when a car accident occurs, obviously something happened that wasn't safe, whereas with a ride stop like this, all of the safety systems worked exactly as they were supposed to. Also, the media as of lately is over-sensationalizing stopped roller coasters and blowing them way out of proportion. With car accidents, the news generally covers them without sensationalism, and with the correct level of attention (e.g. a minor fender-bender without injuries will usually only get a brief mention with regard to the resulting impact on traffic flow). And finally, when a car accident that is worthy of a news story occurs, there are typically injuries, significant property damage, and so forth that has a significant impact, either temporary or permanent, on people's lives. This afternoon's incident (if you can even call it that) on Diamondback was nothing but a simple inconvenience compared to that. Reputable news sources should not be wasting time on reporting that some people were inconvenienced for half an hour, which is what today's Diamondback coverage amounts to.6 points

We need a ride called "Mother of The Beast" No I was thinking Mother in Law of Beast, then you know it is really scary.6 points

Would have been interesting to hear her story as far as how they got that ride to KI in the first place then5 points

In case anyone is curious, despite WDTN's assertion that "Diamondback breaks down" is one of the top five things you need to know this morning, it is indeed running just fine. Also, the path between Eiffel Tower and Beast is closed off for Banshee Brew Fest.5 points

From a picture I saw on Facebook posted by someone who was at the park, it didn't appear to be very far up at all. Enough that the whole train was on the hill, but not much farther.5 points

So, life-changing injuries such as leg amputations are not significant and newsworthy? Diamondback stopping safely on the lift and doing a lift evacuation is hardly newsworthy; no one was ever in harm's way except from the sun's rays. Standard operating procedures were followed by both the ride and its operators. The Smiler took a girl's leg. It badly injured several other riders. That's extremely newsworthy. Standard operating procedures were not followed by either the ride or its operators (or both). The same? Not even close.5 points

A lift hill evacuation took place at the park today. No riders were injured, local news stations are overreacting as usual.4 points

Realize as well that the next tallest coaster in Orlando is SEAS' very own Kraken at 149 ft, so that's a pretty big jump in height for that area. SEAS doesn't need this to be too flashy in the stats department. Tall things also draw the eye from far off, so it may grab the attention of many passer byes. I remember my reaction to seeing Diamondback and Son of Beast for the first time and I was kind of in awe seeing them at those times. Who knows? It may have that affect on others. Also remember SEAS has some financial issues to deal with. They've been making major cuts through the chain and their stocks plummeted after Blackfish.4 points

Kings Island, providing the means to record POVs of you and your friends rides even easier... And look like a total tool walking around staring at a camera above your head all day... Wow4 points

According to the Coaster Crew's KIfansite Facebook page, Kings Island is now selling selfie sticks in the park. Pic provided by said page: Words cannot express my disgust.4 points

I'm a huge B&M fan. Yet, my favorite coaster is an INTAMIN (Maverick). My favorite wood a Dennis McNulty CCI (Rampage), my coaster that won't let me not mention it is an INTAMIN: Volcano: The Blast Coaster, and my wood and steel candidates for most overrated are The Gravity Group--Voyage and INTAMIN--Millennium Force. And my couch is far better than The Roller Coaster at New York New York Casino, I-305, Mean Streak....4 points

There is some equipment back there...I have no idea if it has anything to do with actual construction but I saw some as well from MHF.4 points

No pictures, no anything? I take it with a can of Morton Salt. Why would engineers and workers be with an RV?4 points

Umm, The Beast? But something newer, I get it. I know people from all over the world, through a different social platform. It actually amazes me how many know of this iconic coaster. When I talk to people from "where ever" the few things we find in common seem to be, the Indy 500, and The Beast. A few have heard of Banshee, and it's fame is growing, but I assure you, even at it's old age The Beast is known around the globe.4 points

I've said this before, but I will say it again. Until the parks police YouTube, and any other video post sites, and actively request unauthorized videos be removed, this will be on ongoing problem. In no way does this absolve their lack of enforcement within the park, but if you remove the forum, you remove the motivation.4 points

Something else I just realized and in no way am I trying to overlook this poor girls situation and long road ahead, but... Once she does recover (hopefully fully and begins functioning with her prosthetic) which is an insanely long and grueling road ahead. She will be unable to ride roller coasters and many other rides of amusement. While I know that is probably something she would never want to do again because of this event. Still most rides have a policy preventing prosthetics limbs on rides. Had a family friend who lost both legs, one below and one above the knee, the recovery process is painful and something that never stops. He was able to walk and even drive again, but suffered almost every day after the loss of his legs. Phantom pain was a huge issue, which eventually led to a dependence on very strong pain killer, eventually having to kick that addiction and learning to just function with the pain. Money will not make this process any easier or better for this young lady.4 points

^ sums it up better than I ever could have (partly because I never completed my training lol) The only regulation I could see someone using to get you in trouble relates flying over large crowds or crowded areas...or something like that. It was added to the FARs after 9/11 generated fears of terror attacks at large stadiums.4 points

100% agree. Great employees at Boo Blasters in particular. It's weird. This year especially, the Boo Blasters employees have been great (despite operating a subpar ride) I know it's probably hit and miss for most, but from my experience they've been great. Plus I'm sure Kings Island would love to keep up that reputation as world's best kids area, and that just makes the employees that operate that best kid's area all the more important. I forget which station it was, but a news report popped up in my Facebook feed that was surprisingly non-sensational. Something like "ride evacuated safely after safety feature triggered." Somebody may be listening, finally4 points

I was at the park today and didn't notice these... But that doesn't mean they weren't there haha On a side note crowds were fairly light today, longest wait was only about 20 min and that was for FOF Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

Said "designated driver" ticket includes The Coca-Cola Company products in lieu of alcoholic beverages (as noted on the order system). If that is where they are setting up for Banshee Brew Festival, I wonder if they'll be using canned/bottled sodas rather than the fountain variety. The former would make the event more interesting to me, a non-drinker. Whether or not the DD ticket includes a souvenir mug is unknown to me. The fun of this event without drinking would be consuming what's bound to be some good food while taking in the atmosphere (and supposedly entertainment). Perhaps, as the ticket is named after designated drivers, part of the fun would be to join your friends who do choose to consume. It's more like going to a bar and asking for a Coca-Cola, since you will be able to ask for Coca-Cola.3 points

As planned, it will be a coaster to talk about. And it will be.3 points

To be taken with a grain of salt since it is Screamscape... but hmm... If it is an RMC like it is rumored in the posts beforehand, will it be a refurbishment like it was for Thunder Run, a full on I-Box or Topper Track. At least work is starting on Twisted Twins.3 points

Then they are evacuated off of the ride with care by trained staff. No different than any other guest.3 points

A safe stop, and a by the book evacuation is what SHOULD happen, and, should be applauded. Means that all the safety features were working as designed. See Alton Towers on how not to do it.3 points

Here's the photo I took shortly after the evacuation was completed (which might be the photo Magenta Lizard is referring to): As you might possibly be able to see under the fan, the last car was barely on the hill.3 points

I believe that some of the myths and folklore we have are based on some thread of truth. Take for example the legend of dragons. Why do so many cultures have stories about a giant lizard-like animal? I've always believed that the dragon was actually a dinosaur. Now, many people would exclaim, "No, that can't be! Dinosaurs and man are separated by 65 million years of evolution." Do we know that for sure? Let's look at some ancient carvings: and this one: Keep in mind that these carvings were found in places like Cambodia and Peru and would have been created hundreds, maybe even thousands of years before the first known set of dinosaur bones were dug up and discovered. How about this cave drawing: If nothing else, these are very interesting to think about. One last thing that I've always found interesting, that's the Chinese Calendar. Let's take a look at it: Look at all the animals around this calendar. Which ones are listed? Dog, Boar, Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, and Rooster. All these are real animals that are existing and have existed with man. But oh wait, there is one more animal on this calendar: The Dragon. Now why would the dragon be on this calendar with a list of 11 other real-life animals? Why weren't there any other "mythical" animals on this calendar besides the dragon? It's almost as if the dragon was considered a real animal. Perhaps it was an animal that these people had seen before and they had no problem including it on this calendar along side the other animals. Stuff like this fascinates me. I wonder about these so called "mythical" creatures that we talk about. Were dragons just dinosaurs? Is Nessy a Plesiosaur? Did/does Sasquatch exist? These are all questions I have and I enjoy studying these things. I'm not here to try to convince people of anything. I'm just showing some things that I've found over the years that I thought were pretty interesting!3 points

And still I think that price point is too much for KK, the discount needs to be around the $27-$29 range. The goal is to then get people to spend more in the park since they spent less at the gate.3 points

Had a great time today at Kings Island. Rode Boo Blasters 5 times and on about 3 times the guns actually worked. But many props were still broken. The smokescreen effect voice was on. I took many pictures of Phantom Theater remnants and things and even talked to a girl that worked there about it. I even found a new remnant. Heres the pictures of Phantom Theater remnants that I found today. First Maestros balcony . Next Spooky faces Heres a new face that I have never taken a picture of or seen since 2002, Boocifer Maestro's Speaker thats still there. Phantom chandiliers More spooky Phantom Theater faces I also found out that the Maestro's platform where he stood and moved back the curtain is still there. Heres what I mean pictures courtesy of DAFE.com and themeparkuniversity.com Notice where he's standing on the platform it is still there and its the final remnant of Phantom Theater on the ride itself. Here is my picture that I took today of it. Look at the picture at an angle and towards the right and youll see it. You see it? Yeah its pretty neat that Maestro's platform where he stood and pulled back the curtain is still there on the actual ride itself. If you want to see it just look down to the left right before you start Boo Blasters. I had a great time today at Kings Island and hope you enjoy all my Phantom Theater pictures. I love finding and taking pictures of that stuff. Thanks!3 points

KI is definitely NOT a no-fly zone. There are undoubtedly restrictions in place regarding flying over Kings Island, but there is no outright ban on it. If there were, the attraction that formerly occupied Firehawk's plot of land would never have been possible.3 points

I don't get the beer thing either. I mean if they take their kid to a UC, Bengals, or Reds game they are definitely going to see beer at the game in close proximity. Idk if eggs sells beer at Cintas.3 points
