I dont get the complaining about the new ride additions. Some parks out there get no new rides and KI since the pandemic has added new rides/attractions 3 years straight with likely another one on the way next year. I dont understand the whole "KI doesn't get world class coasters anymore" claim. Imo Diamondback, Banshee, Mystic, and Orion are all world class coasters. I get it, Orion is not as good as Fury, but to the average GP a coaster with a 300 foot drop and over 90 mph is world class and a crowd pleaser which is what Orion was meant to be. It was never meant to be better than Fury which only enthusiasts (which make up such a small percentage) actually care about. I know 6 years without a major coaster is a long time, but at least KI is still adding new rides in that time frame. There are other parks that don't get annual investments like that. Plus, KI isn't the only large legacy CF park in a major coaster drought. Knotts and Carowinds has been waiting longer (Knotts since 2018, Carowinds since 2019). Canadas Wonderland is about to end a 6 year drought and TT2 ended a 6 year drought for Cedar Point.7 points

I am fairly certain that if The Beast were ever to be slated for demolition the entire tri-state area and all of Cincinnati as a whole would riot in the streets and swarm the park with picket signs5 points

Something is going on with the Crypt building. Madame Fatales Cavern of Terror maze walls are being removed. I told you to pay closer attention to that building.4 points

I completely disagree. I'd be all-for a refurb/update of WWC including some animatronics. Knotts very successfully updated their rapids roughly five or six years ago - and its breathed a brand new life into it. It has various animal animatronics peppered throughout the course with some are visible to those waiting in line. Its quite fun to be on the lookout for them. When I was last there, it had one of the longest waits in the park due to renewed popularity. I typically avoid rapids rides (I dont like having squishy shoes.) But I anxiously hopped in line for Calico River Rapids at Knotts because I wanted to see all the theming... not because I wanted to get soaked. I'm a fan of "plussing up" existing and aged rides in order to keep them fresh and interesting. The issue with animatronics is, they wear out fairly easily (especially in the elements.) And historically, KI hasn't been the best at maintaining them. But the ones used at Knotts (built by Garner Holt Productions) seem to be a bit more weather-resistant and built pretty sturdy. The redesign was overseen by Ken Parks and his team at Cedar Fair's XDS... and they did an incredible job at developing the story for Calico. It made it a well-rounded attraction - with a fun and cohesive storyline - instead of just "a rapids ride." WWC at KI is now 40 years old and it's ridership has visibly declined. I vividly recall the immense popularity of it those early years. A lot of that had to do with the fact it was a star attraction - and people were curious about what it did, where it went and what it was like back in those woods. The first season it opened, the line to ride stretched all the way through Rivertown virtually all season long. I'd love to see them show some love to the attraction rather than let it die as other parks have... cough... Carowinds... Cough... Over the years many of WWC's original "tricks" have disappeared.... the water snakes (I loved those - they were crazy water hoses along the side of the trough that would wiggle and whip around squirting the boats) the waterfall/mist tunnel, the hidden "boom cannon" etc. It could use some love and frankly a rehab could make it immensely popular and marketable again. In the hands of XDS and Ken Parks, there's no telling how cool and fun it could be. Photos are a small sampling of Calico Rapids from Knott's Website:3 points

This is a topic that may have gotten me pelted with proverbial "rotten tomatoes" 5 years ago, but I think some of you may be starting to see the same thing. Kings Island does not seem to be the park it was 15 years ago. Summertime hours have been lessened, special events (think visits from the Reds, Wallendas, eating contests, celebrity visits, food truck events, etc.) are close to non-existent. Shows have been lessened. Halloween Haunt is a shell of what it once was. The park is no longer as beautiful as it once was. The greatest example being the essential destruction of the Royal Fountain. What could have been a loving restoration became a cost saving replacement. Ride additions are not what they once were. They are spaced further apart and are not the "world class additions" that Kings Island was known for until around 2015 or so. One glaring example of this cost cutting is Sol Spin-- the park bought the smaller capacity model with 1 seat per arm and not the side-by-side model. There was absolutely no reason to do this other than cost. My other example is that the Beagle Scout Acres play area. It was clearly done with almost no money and it shows. The clientele has gotten rougher. Kings Island remains a babysitter for many. The unrulier the kids the more likely this will be the case. Food and drink lines are exceedingly long no longer moderated by the expensive prices given the meal plans. The reduced operating hours have made the park consistently "more busy" which has dragged down the value of a season pass. I have to believe this is by design, making people wait is good for business because it means more will buy Fast Lane. Yet another anti-consumer move that will ultimately lessen the experience for a lot of people. A very large caveat is that I don't think this is the fault of the park staff. I still think they are some of the best in the business and KI's ride operations are the finest in Cedar Fair/Six Flags. This is a corporate problem. The powers that be would rather squeeze KI for all it's worth now than invest in the park for generations to come. It's corporate's attitude and goals that have changed. The "best day ever" has become "make their day good enough." My question to you all is do you agree with my general thoughts and what will be the ultimate result? Will the Six Flags merger ultimately succeed or fail? What will KI look like in 10 years?3 points

TT2 is just as phenomenal as last year! I didn't notice any side sway and holy cow the rhythm of trains being sent today! Can't wait til they close all the parks but Cedar Point ;-) Talk to budget friendly Koontz....he's the one who can/should be petitioning things for KI....but hey we got a kid coaster last year.3 points

I know the fate of these coasters seems pretty bleak as a whole, but as an optimist it would be great to see a few of them get a new home. Imagine Ride of Steel going to say, Michigan's Adventure. I know it's a huge structure but it would be a massive hit up there. The SLC I could see possibly being sold and picked up by a smaller park. Somewhere like Indiana Beach would be a great park for one of those to go. I know Firebird will more than likely be a goner, but I can mourn it since it is historic as well as iconic to 90's kids who remember a certain movie in which it was featured in. And well, Batwing, that's basically a given. I've heard it had terrible down time and these older Vekoma Flying Dutchmans are becoming extinct as we know it. Sad because this is a X-Flight/Firehawk clone and again a sentimental type ride. But yeah. This merger has seen a lot of carnage and hardly any formal announcements to say goodbye. I'm glad they're doing the right thing by announcing this now so people can get in their last rides and visits. I hope people document everything before it's just a flicker of the past. It might not be the best park in the chain but as always, every ride and every park holds a special place in someone's heart.3 points

I guess my point is: If they are happy with the numbers the park is producing, why spend the money? CP has hotels to fill (and basically an economy to support) so they likely have more robust entertainment to fill those rooms. Kings Island, on the other hand, has people who visit the park multiple times a year, buy add ons, and enjoy a solid park, with "just good enough" additions. I would personally love more enterainment: clown band, a train show, pop up shows, PTE-level season long shows in KIT. However, keeping the fireworks every night, having Grand Carnivale, Winterfest etc is a better use of entertainment dollars IMHO.3 points

Or how about a new event space for something like live music and lawn games. Think the lawn area (or what was a lawn area) near Harmony Hall/Thunder Striker at Carowinds which they used for the easter/spring break activities a few weeks ago and last year a stage for the Summer Music Fest series.2 points

I would rather see investment in KI&MVRR. They could get bang for the buck and tie theming into both attractions, but I wouldn't bank on it.2 points

Plus if the 2026 family thrill attraction is put in the Crypt building, they could put the nebulaZ in the pad right next to the building near Beast's entrance and open up that area past The Beast's entrance and maybe have the exit be moved back to its old spot again and maybe just maybe get the water mill working again.2 points

^ I would love to see us get Ragin' Cajun and the Nebulaz. We are one of the few parks in the chain that doesn't have a Wild Mouse.2 points

Hard to imagine any of the flat rides being straight up demolished aside from the Drop Tower. Some are fairly new including a star flyer, a NebuluZ and a discovery. Looking at what they have I realized the park technically has two "flying dutchman" rides, which is kind of funny. Ragin' Cajun probably has a shot too.2 points

Yea I didn't necessarily mean it in a negative way. I do like that they are using down seasons like these to spruce up some of the rides. This and the Flight of Fear lighting were nice surprises for this season. Just meant more that I don't think it required a ton of advance effort to be something that was planned for a long time.2 points

Once again I come with another story of how terms are subject to change still occurs in this day in age after the merger. Season Passes | Season-Long Access | Kings Island How do I redeem my free Bring-A-Friend? Present your valid Prestige Pass at any ticket services window, and your guest will receive a ticket and lounge voucher. The Prestige Bring-A-Friend benefit is good for two visits annually during the pass validity. You may use the two free visits on the same day or use one visit on two separate days. Passholder must be present to redeem this offer. Prestige with the All Park Passport add-on can also redeem Bring-A-Friend tickets at other legacy Cedar Fair parks. Note that only two Bring-A-Friend tickets are available annually during the pass validity, regardless of at which legacy Cedar Fair park they are used. For context, the park advertised that you can use your bring a friend VIP ticket at ANY legacy Cedar Fair parks. Prestige receives exclusive benefits at the home park for which the pass is eligible. Prestige with the All Park Passport add-on receives exclusive benefits at the home park the pass was purchased through, plus unlimited visits to ALL Six Flags parks and the exclusive benefits at other legacy Cedar Fair parks offering the Prestige Pass. Prestige 2 annual Bring-A-Friends may be redeemed at all legacy Cedar Fair parks; Prestige Single Use Fast Lane benefits may be redeemed at all legacy Cedar Fair parks except Schlitterbahn Galveston and Schlitterbahn New Braunfels; the remaining Prestige benefits are only available at Canada’s Wonderland, Carowinds, Cedar Point, Kings Dominion, Kings Island, and Knott’s Berry Farm. Benefit availability may vary by park, please contact the park you are planning to visit for questions regarding applicable benefits. This is a direct quote from the Cedar Point website mind you. After the lengthy battles of “terms are subject to change” I am ultimately skeptical of what the parks actually offer and this always call in to confirm information. I started off calling into KI over the weekend, where they said they are 99.99% sure that I should be able to use my bring a friend VIP benefit at Cedar Point. They referred me to Cedar Point to confirm and I did exactly that today. When I spoke with the operator, they stated verbatim that my bring a friend is valid ONLY at my home park. Totally contradicting what the park stated on their website. I’m going to call again tomorrow with this information but I wanted to let everyone know that once again there seems to be a major disconnect in what is offered and what is actually served. I’m hopeful this is just a simple bit of lack of coordination however if this is the case it’s extremely disheartening that what is communicated vs what is offered are totally contradictory. I’ll be totally transparent here: I hate not knowing what my pass actually gets me. I want for what I paid for to be valid and clear, which in my experience is as clear as mud with SIX and legacy Cedar Fair parks. I know park execs look at these forums, I know park employees look at these forums, I’m taking the avenues that are available to at least confirm what I can do; but this level of confusion is just unreal. I’m sorry, this should be a simple memo or an excel reference sheet it shouldn’t be a legal quagmire that turns into a he said she said situation.2 points

Bumping this thread now that the 2025 season has officially started. Whatever goes in Vortex's plot, I'd love to see it have chaser lights on the lift hill like Vortex had. Fury, Orion, and Raptor's solid chaser lights look good, but I think having those old-style lights would make it blend in more with the area. As much as I could enjoy a new launch coaster at Kings Island, I would prefer something with a lift hill and a compact (not out-and-back) layout to replace Vortex. If WindSeeker does go due to reliability issues, I could see the bathrooms right there being moved as well, probably to the open space between Jukebox Diner and the basketball stand next to Coney Treats. Transforming that bottleneck into only being a ride entrance / service entrance would also allow the coaster to go over WindSeeker's plot and turn around there. It would also open some space back up for the entrance into Action Theater. I'm super curious as to how soon we'll see signs of next year's family thrill attraction. I just hope Vortex's replacement is as thrilling and as fun as it was.2 points

I wonder if they are "real" containers or if they are just a series of shipping container walls and ceilings stacked on top of each other, all living on one concrete pad. My best guess would be the latter. If they can't be easily removed I think it would be a great idea to repaint them with fun park-related graffiti. A second option would be to have a more professional-looking mural painted on like exists all over Cincinnati.2 points

This may just be me, but beginning the sentence with "In fact," feels very unprofessional and/or too casual — even for a park speaking directly to its biggest fans (who weren't already going to Holiday World's event). The sentence would have been just as fine without it. It reminds me of how awkward and standoffish the little blurb about Monster's ordered-but-not-yet-received part felt. Does anyone else feel this way? Also, the "handful of surprises" make the itinerary incomplete (for guests) on paper, not "not final". Am I going too far into this? I'd appreciate more thoughts on the matter whether you agree with me or not. Trim-less rides on The Beast might be a nice surprise, but would there be a possibility of hurting the retracking done over the last few years? If I was going I think I'd rather take a trip to the Sign Shop than do something that would hurt the coaster. (I'd like to see inside there either way!) Sorry for nitpicking. This FAQ answer reads like someone trying to be cool and possibly failing at that. Thank you for coming to my unprompted rant.1 point

Which I totally respect the park for doing considering they didn’t have to do it at all. They were smart to keep “stunt coaster“ in the name to establish that it’s still a stunt coaster, but it’s themed to Cincinnati instead of Los Angeles. That being said, I do think they could spruce up the show scene before you enter the tunnel a little bit. I’m assuming the rebrand was also an excuse to turn off the helicopter as well as the fire affects. If they removed the helicopter from the ride in the off-season, I don’t think as many people would be upset about it. Heck, they could rehome it in area 72 somewhere if they really wanted to.1 point

We're planning on going up in the fall as well. Now that we have had a fall visit to CP, we no longer have an interest in summer visits. Looking forward to a (hopefully) successful year for both TT2 and Siren's Curse! I don't even know if I can say which one I'm most excited to ride as they are both very different experiences and my opinion changes by the day. At this particular moment, I think I am more excited for SC because that thing looks like something that could compare to Maverick/SteVe levels of crazy with that tight layout. But then other days I get more excited for TT2 for the speed and height and of course to revisit an old friend with a new hairstyle lol1 point

Well considering they restored/upgraded the lighting in the hanger queue, I think FoF will be sticking around for a few more years. I hope whoever put in the work for these effects can get the credit they deserve! I would imagine a more last minute change. Don't think it was a long planned overhaul but is a nice change. Just with how basic the swap is as it seems to mostly just be new billboards, pictures on the boards, and new name, it doesn't seem like something that is a big refurb or investment. Nice to see it get a little sprucing up, but it is a pretty basic change that doesn't really amount to much more than a new coat of paint, so I don't think this was something that was a long time coming, just something to recognize the anniversary and add something "new" to the dry park during a smaller year where the new attraction is a water slide.1 point

The new hanger lighting is wonderful! Some really great detail work in the lighting design throughout the preshow. I especially love the touch of having the lights on the steps flashing as the aliens invite guests onto the ship. Major props to all who worked to make this happen!1 point

To me Oktoberfest is so non-existent now, just make it part of Adventure Port. For Action Zone and getting a wing coaster . . I don't know, the aviation theme just is not grabbing me. Not saying it won't work but look to other park sections theming and see what are some fan favorites. I am not talking about cookie cutter attractions. I hate to say it but if KI does not do it around the kids area, Six Flags may want this to be DC Comics area. That was tough to say!!1 point
-
A few thoughts: splitting it could make a lot of sense if they got rid of TimberWolf. There's a ton of concrete that exists, so an aeronautic theme could be pulled off. The other side, as you mentioned, would be great as an Oktoberfest expansion, a haunted area, or a reintroduction of Adventure Village. That would tie in well with Adventure Port. Or, they could make the entire area Adventure Village again, similar to JungleX, with a multiple year phase in. Some are calling for this to be a DC Universe land as well.1 point
-
In that case, I feel like if KI isn't going to go with a Haunted theme for Action Zone, then flight theme it is, but I would hate to see Banshee rethemed. Maybe they could try and fit Banshee's mythological flying ghost theme into an aviation themed area.1 point

The Bat by far doesn't get enough credit it may not be the fastest or tallest coaster but it is certainly a fun coaster for the whole family and that top view for the first lift is amazing!1 point

It's definitely possible. I could see the Skyflyer plot being used for whatever that 2026 family thrill attraction is. I think something like a S&S Screamin' Swing would fit there well there as a fitting replacement for a Skyflyer attraction. That's just mainly an idea though, so we'll have to see what happens with that plot of land come this season.1 point

You wanna know what does have good capacity? Please, please, please, KI! I would love a MACK Stryker Coaster similar to Voltron. This would be a worthy replacement of Vortex in my opinion, and would look great in that plot of land. It doesn't have to be as long or big as Voltron, but something with powerful launches, strong airtime, and crazy inversions would fill all of the gaps at KI. Another ride that fills in those gaps is Time Traveler. Would love to see something like that come in as well. If you don't care about maintenance costs, (which they do because of Ka) then something like ArieForce One would be cool. I guess I could settle for a Raptor, but that's farther down on the list for me. Unfortunately, I don't see Six Flags going with RMC.1 point

Chapter 1- The Old Dominion Line https://www.facebook.com/KDGoldenYears/ Following the success of Kings Island in near Cincinnati, Taft Broadcasting Company decided to duplicate the park in Virginia. One of the many things Kings Dominion took from her sister park was a small 36" narrow gauge railroad in a section of the park named "Old Virginia", a section that reflected the early years of Virginia; a similar concept to Rivertown at Kings Island. The "Old Dominion Line" featured two authentic steam locomotives built by the Crown Locomotive Works- the Baldwin Locomotive Works of amusement park railroads. The line ventured through the Virginian wilderness past log cabins and animatronics. https://www.facebook.com/KDGoldenYears/ The two locomotives that ran along the short line were the #601 "Patrick Henry" and the #552 "Stonewall Jackson." Like their Kings Island cousin's, both locomotives were modeled after the standard "American" style locomotive bearing the typical 4-4-0 wheel arrangement. When management asked Kings Island engineers for feedback on how to perfect the train ride in Virginia they suggested a more prototypical approach. This meant that the locomotives should have larger smoke stacks, darker colors, and most notably- wooden cabs (as seen in the picture above.) These changes were made to give the locomotives a more "primitive" look as steel wasn't as plentiful in the mid 1800s as it is now. http://parkfans.net/thread-1541.html The “Patrick Henry” was meant to resemble Kings Island's #12 "Tecumseh" locomotive respectively. The locomotive bared a large balloon smoke stack, featured 2 domes, and a gothic style roof, as well as a dark blue color scheme with red decals. The “Patrick Henry” also had a set of blue coaches with brown decals to match the locomotive’s color scheme as well as the look of older passenger coaches from the 1800s. There’s no audio to prove this but I suspect the “Patrick Henry” featured a 6 chime whistle. The locomotive also featured two flags, one was the American flag and the other one was the Virginia Flag. Though meant to resemble Kings Island’s #12, Kings Dominion’s #601 was one of the most cloned Crown models to date. The large balloon stack was seen on multiple crown locomotives throughout the 60s, 70s, and 80s giving it a less original look. http://parkfans.net/thread-1541.html The “Stonewell Jackson” was meant to resemble Kings Island's #19 "Simon Kenton" locomotive respectively. The locomotive bared a narrow balloon smoke stack, featured 2 domes, and a curved style roof, as well as an orange-red color scheme with blue decals. The “Stonewall Jackson” also had a set of orange-red coaches with brown decals to match the locomotive’s color scheme as well as the look of older passenger coaches from the 1800s. There’s no audio to prove this but I suspect the “Stonewall Jackson” featured a 6 chime whistle. The locomotive also featured two flags, one was the American flag and the other one was the Confederacy Flag. This locomotive model was my favorite of all the Crown locomotives ever built because of its unique balloon stack design. This is was one of the more original designs ever found on a Crown locomotive. https://www.facebook.com/KDGoldenYears/ The line started in the Old Virginia section of the park, near the end of Candy Apple Grove not too far from the Rebel Yell. The train would run parallel to Rebel Yell until taking a right turn into the Virginian Wilderness. In the woods, like the Miami Valley Railroad, the trains past several log cabins and animatronics. The train would stop at a part of the line and actors would interact with guests on board. The train would then pass the engine house before finally returning to the station. In the later years, some of the scenery changed to accommodate newer attractions. In the early 80s, Grizzly was placed behind the station, similar to Mystic Timbers at Kings Island. The challenge was that the que line crossed the railroad tracks making operations interesting to say in the least. http://parkfans.net/thread-1541.html Towards the late 80s, the popularity of the railroad started to dwindle and some of the theming began to go away. By the 90s, Paramount attempted to revitalize the railroad by adding an action scene on the train but to no avail. Operations were so dismal that the railroad would close early around 6pm because it began to lose the park money. In 1994 Hurler was added and coexisted with the train for about a year. In 1995, it was decided that the line would be demolished and the locomotives and their coaches sold to other amusement parks. The fact that the railroad wasn’t a transport ride was one of the main reasons why it’s popularity decreased. One could make the assumption that Kings Island’s trains would have suffered the same fate if they weren’t used to transport guests to and from the waterpark. #601 currently operates at Busch Gardens Tampa on the Serengeti Express. The locomotive was repainted an off green color with a red cowcatcher and yellow decals. The original wood cab was replaced with a steel cab fitted with exhaust fans. The whistle was mounted on the additional dome and was toned down a couple of chimes, in my opinion to not scare off the animals. The original coaches were painted yellow to match a nearly identical locomotive bought from Six Flags Mid-America, now Six Flags St. Louis. The green coaches the train usually pulls is a part of an older Busch Gardens locomotive #4 that isn’t currently in operation. I was fortunate enough to see this locomotive down in Tampa when I visited Busch Gardens in 2012. Though I prefer its original look, I’m happy that the locomotive has more room to stretch out it’s wheels and isn’t sitting out to rust like a lot of other Crown locomotives. http://parkfans.net/thread-1541.html #552 currently operates at a small religious retreat called Dry Gulch USA in Adair Oklahoma. Like #601, #552 received a cosmetic overhaul with a black boiler, red domes, a red cowcatcher, red wheels, and a black tender. The most notable change however was the wooden cab. While in transport, engine #552 encountered a tree and suffered damage to its cab. The original cab was removed and replaced with a new, darker colored wood cab that can still be seen today. The locomotive operates on select dates and during the parks popular “Christmas Train” event with two other locomotives made by H.K. Porter. It is unknown what happened to the original coaches of the train whether they were sold to another party or are sitting on storage. https://www.facebook.com/KDGoldenYears/ There has been a bit of confusion as to where the locomotives actually ended up first. One rumor states that Dry Gulch bought the two locomotives and sold #601 to Busch Gardens. Another rumor states that Busch Gardens bought the two locomotives and #552 was sold to Dry Gulch. In my opinion, I believe both trains were initially sold to the Busch Gardens chain since Busch Gardens Europe was a short drive from Doswell. At the time, Busch Gardens Africa already had three locomotives but desperately needed a backup. I think #552 was less appealing to the company so it was sold to Dry Gulch. I could be completely wrong but that’s just how I think that went down. http://parkfans.net/thread-1541.html Remnants of the Old Dominion Line can still be seen at Kings Dominion today. The old railroad shed still stands vacant and the old route can still be made out on satellite. I think this ride could have served a greater purpose and could still be standing today if it acted as a transport ride. However, it’s placement in the park limited its potential to be used as a transport ride and was one of the many contributing factors to its dismantle in 1995. Also, the placement of the ride prevented a lot of potential expansion so, while I still wish it were there, I can see why the park made the decision to remove it. I hoped you enjoyed this! Please feel free to share your comments and post any pictures. I have way more pictures if anyone's interested. If you have any questions for me or any suggestions on what park I should do next, please let me know! Edit as of 2020: Cedar Fair aquired #552 to be a backup engine for the World's of Fun Railroad. The engine will be named "Levi"1 point
