  1. Correct me if I am wrong @BeeastFarmer but even if you had a N95 on and sneezed or coughed hard a significant amount would escape out the sides. Not traveling far but still lingering in the air for 3 minutes or so. If I am walking down a Midway that spot where I coughed is contaminated for a few minutes (assuming still air).
  2. Even with all the vehicles skipping spaces can you imagine how icky the lot would smell with all the engines running for the AC? Yuk. Nice graphic I found on why people should wear masks. It was only 73F and I went to Costco my homemade mask was very moist after about 45 minutes in the store. Going to need a a big supply to make it through a day at the park in July.
  3. Why? I don’t disagree, just wonder if it beyond the optimistic half hour waiting for results and what you do with the masses while they wait. I guess you could send them back out to the car. Testing 10-30k people seems like a huge undertaking.
  4. Coronavirus tests are expensive and the rapid ones are low volume from what I read. My SIL was taken to the ER two weeks ago, stabilized and sent home with probable Covid-19 diagnosis but did not make the cutoff for a test. They are still in short supply and it is going to take a long time before the system is ramped up. plus they are expensive. I really don’t think testing at parks is feasible in the near future.
  5. @lifetimecoaster Those that have been designated essential or first responder (my wife) don’t really have a choice. Yours is HC related hers is communications infrastructure. They work or they resign and then are not eligible for unemployment so now they are on the street homeless. That is not really a “choice”. It is really sad to so many people think only of themselves and not of community.
  6. Indeed and we know just to person to write those volumes.
  7. Scientists, statisticians, MDs, politicians etc. will have to make decisions about what group gatherings are allowed to exist that those individuals can then make their decisions about attending. The risks are not just to the individual attending but everyone those individuals come into contact with after such event, be it a retail environment, them park swimming pool, concert, their job such as a health care or a educator. I like you BJ but sorry if I do not trust your judgement to exclusively to determine acceptable risk for everyone you come into contact with and then who they come in contact with, etc. This entire situation is not about an individual conducting their their own individual risk assessment. This is about public health which is much more complex. Flattening the curve is imprecise. The goal is to never overwhelm the HC system, in order to do that the brakes have to be applied enough to make sure we don’t cross that line, of course the ride computer will undershoot that line every time resulting in a less than optimal ride, but ensuring the train makes it back to the station. You seem to argue it is OK if we do cross that line. To bad so sad to those on that train.
  8. It may be time to start a separate thread dedicated to "mask survival", just tips and tricks people can share and a place for the community to bounce ideas around as people with have unique issues. Sensory, comfort, dermatological, sourcing, mask care, style and fit, fogging glasses, things like that. Leaving the more policy issues here. We have HC workers on this site that offer advise from experience. @malem @IndyGuy4KI What do you think? Fogging glasses is a big problem I have with ones that don't have a nose bridge. It is better to address the issue with fit but one trick is to wash your glasses with soap but do not over rinse and let air dry. A small soap residue is left behind that aids in fog formation. My wife developed a bad hand rash from some non-latex gloves that would not go away the absolutely massive array of skin care products she has. A 20 minute telehealth call with no co-pay and she had a script sent to the pharmacy. She is in love with telehealth now.
  9. Marketing sure, but capital planning is more long term and I really question what is going to be available for big dollar thrill rides.
  10. Yes and no. More than anything he needs work experience especially in the soft skills department. Getting along with difficult coworkers and supervisors, handling the stress, stamina, owning up to mistakes, not lying or obfuscating the truth, getting fired for screwing up. He is completely capable in any school subject but can slack off and dig himself a hole. He needs to learn what the real world consequences are for those poor decisions something more than just a bad grade. I didn’t push the issue becuase I also don’t need him bringing home the virus. Home protocols would be difficult to manage especially with a service job with increased opportunity for exposure.
  11. I am still stunned that they would use the name procreate for the software.
  12. I need reset my autocorrect as it has been doing some really funky stuff recently but that one is probably all on me. Serves me right for staying up late every night. OMG They are going to make a killing off that Baby Yoda mask. If my wife sees this she will insist on one for every day of the week. If anyone tells her about it, I will send the virus sniffing bears after you.
  13. Good your a tough one. My 17yo isn’t. I sat down with him last month to plan his summer, get a job bagging groceries and retrieving carts and probably have to wear a mask all day or take an online class through Columbus State. He choose school.
  14. That shouldn’t be a problem, migrant workers from Central America would love to have those jobs and they are used to the heat and tough conditions. KI could bring them up here in caravans. “Bienvenida de nuevo jinetes, ¿cómo fue tu viaje?”
  15. I would imagine so. Is a mask a necessary medical device such that they would shut down the ride so and have the associates go retrieve it? If they are required what is the guest to do? Buy one in the gift shop for $25 so they can stay? Would that be considered a money grab?
  16. Customers wearing masks is controversial and as it stands now they are not required by the state but business can require them of their customers. Does KI require them or make them optional for customers? If KI doesn’t require them and say 10k of the 25k people refuse to wear one does that 15k stick around or just go home and not come back? If KI does require them do those very opposed to them get angry and go home or just comply?
  17. Let’s go with DB, with 25k in the park how full is the queque? Is there enough capacity to space everyone 6’? Assuming family units can still group together, so it’s not like need 6X the queque capacity maybe 3-4X.
  18. What determines a park’s capacity? Indoor venues always have sign posted and I believe that number is set by the local Fire Marshal but could be handled differently depending on local jurisdiction. Has KI ever hit “100% capacity”? I assume it has never been over capacity as that would be a legal violation, right? Has a Disney park ever hit or gone over capacity? I have seen some photos of Disney where the midways look like Lallapalooza. So think about the busiest day you have ever been to KI. For me it was a Saturday on a Columbus Day weekend a few years ago, it was insane. There was still some room to move around though bumping into others was common. Maybe it was only at 75% capacity? Idk. I assume the park wasn’t over 100% so 50% capacity would be more than half that amount. That would still be a fairly crowded day.
  19. Grass growing. Good topic. I bet they don’t try and grow from seed, that is hard to do in the spring and keep going into the heat of summer. My guess is they use sod. Then again watching grass grow from the webcams would give us something to talk about.
  20. A mile? That would be bears. Not a bad idea to use bears for rule enforcement as well. They could even be used to hunt down those pesky drone pilots some are all concerned about.
  21. Didn’t see this one coming. Dogs are being trained to sniff out coronavirus cases https://www.washingtonpost.com/science/2020/04/29/coronavirus-detection-dogs/
  22. Safari on a Mac? Safari on iPad seems fine with it, other than the cookie warning.
  23. If this thing uses GPS constantly count me out. The park can issue me a refund and we will just part ways and I will have to find new hobbies, I didn't agree to carrying a monster 1lb battery around with me all day. The CP & KI apps drain any iPhone I have used at the parks at typical 100% GPS usage which means less than 3 hours run time. I fully realize everyone else in the world is somehow able to use the apps and not have this issue. However for the ride times to work "allows allow" has to be selected and it just doesn't work for out for me so I am constantly having to dig into settings shutting app permissions on and off. I have batteries up to 26000 but I don't want to carry that sucker around all day. If it wants to do a quick poll ever 15 minutes or so that is fine, it is not a privacy issue for me, it is a power issue.
