Coronavirus Impacting Theme Parks

Well it is binary. One is dead or alive there is no in between. You are proposing an attendance cap in a sense. Let’s call this the Logan’s Run Solution. Not so sure how popular the Carrousel will be. Just teens that can drive themselves, possibly get dropped off or young adults. Some very young families I suppose. Some might have an issue with this but I don’t as long as all $1,600 of my passes and ad-ons are refunded or rolled over to 2021 or 2022. But let’s not forget that the virus doesn’t care about your age to hitch a ride and pass it on to others. So Mom and Dad drop you off at the park and you just might bring home a nice prize to share with the rest of your family. PPE and cleaning expenses will all still need to exist. See my analysis of Thabto’s proposal. KI is in the business of making money. How exactly are they going to do this? -

@Thabto In your arguement I see three actions. Attendance caps, PPE and more cleaning. Attendance caps depending on how strict and deep will certainly make social distancing easier. We don’t know if CF IT can hobble together reservation system in time or not but maybe. Certainly we don’t want a first come first serve system as that just creates huge crowds for rope drop. Caps also prevent the high profit busy days but will not protect against the slow bad weather days. Revenue will be severely limited due to little to no daily ticket sales. Half of attendance are Passholders. PPE: First when will enough be available for non-essential businesses? Parks are kind of at the extreme bottom of non-essential businesses. Even before the shortage the stuff wasn’t cheap. Staff is going to go through a lot and will be a major unbudgeted expense. Passholders have already paid, can’t raise prices. Have you ever worn an N95 mask outside in the summer for any period of time and worked hard doing it? I have, it wipes you hard and is miserable. Employees are going to need frequent cool down breaks if they are to survive. My guess would be hour on hour off at least for ride ops. So we just doubled labor and training expense for that segment probably for food and beverage as well. Plus turnover is going to be high because it just plain sucks. This works in air-conditioned hospitals but ask any HC worker you know what they think about wearing all that outside in July or August. Cleaning the park: Just requires more labor and more cleaning supplies 3-4x normal levels sound about right? Can be done. Just more expense. To sum it up we have two solutions that drastically increase expenses and one that drastically reduces revenue. In the best of times parks run on fairly thin margins. How does the park have any chance of making a profit and not just hemorrhage cash doing this? -

@139Signal27 when are you going to get it through that thick skull of yours that Cedar Fair is anti-tree? They hate them, I don’t know why but they do. If trees came in primary colors maybe that would change, but they don’t. We have about as much a chance of seeing new trees in the park as an RMC SOB -

Why should he provide you a source, when you refuse to provide a source when asked? Not trying to be mean but...... -

Other than Iger talking about temperature checks, which won’t stop asymptotic carriers, has anyone heard any concrete, whole picture plans from the industry on how parks can operate safely before herd immunity or a proven treatment? I sure haven’t. Not even on this thread despite the question being raised nearly every day. What I do hear is “I think the parks will open by mid-May, Mid-June, July 4th, or August 1st.” But correct me if I am wrong but I never hear how that is supposed to happen, what specifically the parks will do differently, why large crowds gathering will not cause a 2nd wave. Where is your science or sources to back up your thinking? The virus doesn’t really care what you think or hope for. Maybe what I am missing is some people just don’t care what the consequences are as long as the coasters run. I sure hope not. -

Some were talking yesterday about the need for more testing. https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2020/04/08/829955099/federal-support-for-coronavirus-testing-sites-end-as-peak-nears -

Here is my suggestion. Start Happy Hour at 5 (AM) open some Wine with DeWine and enjoy some POV.

Yes. Yes I did. We can not let this virus control us, we must take charge, we must not let it get us down, depress us destroy our FUN. Stand tall and celebrate tomorrow. Don’t let the virus win. Enjoy your favorite hobby, don’t hide from it. We may not have Orion in the morning but we have great memories and we should celebrate those. Orion and KI will come.

Everybody get to bed early and get a good nights sleep. Media Day starts bright and early in the morning. Everyone should post content from Banshee and Mystic Media Days in the morning. It will be like ESPN Classic.

Kings Island suspending payment plans
King Ding Dong replied to coaster sally's topic in Kings Island
I don't think CF "processes" passes in the same meaning as SIX with a process by date to get gold benefits, free parking or whatever their incentives are at the time. At least in the case of a renewal, you just scan in at the turnstile each year, no need to go to season pass processing. We are in the same boat so let me know if you find anything out, but I am not concerned. It will work out. -
I am sure the park will give you a big stack of $2 off a funnel cake coupons to make up for it.

Kings Island suspending payment plans
King Ding Dong replied to coaster sally's topic in Kings Island
Also if anyone is so inclined If I purchase on the payment plan after 4/8/20, will my payments be suspended during the park closure? Yes – you will pay the initial payment plus applicable taxes and fees at checkout and your future monthly payments will be suspended until the park reopens. -

Where are you picking up anything about “forgiven” payments? They clearly state suspended. -

There is. Sign into the portal and make a payment manually if you wish. -

Also note if you want to keep making payments or pay it off fully that is still an option but requires doing it manually through the portal. They may not address these kinds of issues until parks start announcing planned opening dates. -

Interesting. Just received my payment processed email through Canada’s Wonderland. Personally fine with this as the exchange rate changes keep making my payment lower. Clearly CF is taking a park by park approach on this. While both CP & KI have similar wording about suspending payment plans CW’s site says explicitly payments will continue. Anyone know what the original opening date for CW was? Edit: from a hiring announcement post it looks like it was to be May 1st. -

I have been to CPS many times since additions. Never noticed any theming changes just name changes. Still generic blue blah. -

Do parks in wooded and farmland areas come off as cheesy when themed to Paris? -

If any parks were to open under social distancing guidelines conflicts among guests would be another problem the parks would have to deal with. Many posts on this forum about the parks being very lax in enforcement for current violations such as smoking, line jumping, cameras on rides etc. How would they deal with these kinds of issues? Would security personnel need to adjudicate on the spot which party violated the rules? Having to physically remove a group from the park also puts those security personnel in a vulnerable position if guests become belligerent and refuse to comply with instructions. There is a good chance some of these incidents would be captured on video and make the rounds on social media. If park personnel made any error of judgement now they have to deal with the negative PR and threats of lawsuits. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/04/08/doctor-social-distancing-strangulation/ -

Zoombezi Bay has an adults only lazy river and drinks are allowed on the tubes. If you want to increase per caps that is a sure fire way. -

Under what scenario and time frame are we going to get a lot of testing done? Who is going is going do it and pay for it? From what I have read the Federal policy is it is not their job. -

There goes Singapore. Essentially in lockdown now. Doesn’t mention Universal specifically but no gatherings.
