Just to clarify a couple things. The Sky Ride and Bavarian Beetle that were at Coney Island are the same ones that were moved to Kings Island. The rides were not "sold" to Kings Island, because the owners of Coney Island back then (Taft Broadcasting) were the ones that were developing Kings Island. So they already owned the rides and just moved them to Kings Island, among other rides. Rides that they moved included the Carousel, the Kings Mills Log Flume (now Wild Thornberrys River Adventure), the Flying Eagles, the Scrambler, the Monster (although the last two rides have actually been replaced with other versions over the years) and several of the kiddie rides.

I didn`t think it was that bad. I did think that the beginning was a little weak, ad the plot overall was rather weak. But I thought it was a cool concept, and mentioned several of the top Nick shows, which might be an incentive to introduce it at the Paramount Parks. Only time will tell what the next movie in the FX Theater will be.

Yes I know that some of them were the same names/themes as areas at PKI, so it could indicate some of the changes that PKI has in store. Someone said that Curse of the Crypt will be gone this year. I do believe that when i was there this past weekend, that I thought I saw the facade entrance to Curse of the Crypt behind the Maze of Madness building (by the exit to Maze of Madness).

No, you are correct. Pass holders receive (as you stated) an $8 discount to a one day admission to Winterfest. Too bad it isn`t free, but from what I have heard, they are selling a bunch of tickets already, so you might want to purchase your tickets soon, before they all sell out!
-
I highly doubt that all of those themes will be implented at PKI for this year`s FearFest. From the sounds of things, this could end up being the best FearFest yet!

PKI is not the one building this thing. They are just contributing the land towards it. Great Wolf is investing the money for the actual building.

Great Wolf Lodge Breaks Ground on 8-18
CoastersRZ replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Coming Attractions
Well I think Scooby Doo will be quite safe at Paramount`s Kings Island for the next several years. But I would imagine the rest of the Hanna Barbera gang will be leaving. Which is kind of ironic if you think about it. One of the main reasons Taft Broadcasting bought Coney Island was so that they could develop a new theme park to promote their Hanna Barbera characters. -
Today was the official ground breaking ceremony of the Great Wolf Lodge to be built on the former Kings Island Campground. Several executives as well as Scooby Doo and the Great Wolf mascot were among the dignitaries to turn over the first shovels of dirt. I am not certain, but I believe one of the dignitaries was Craig Ross, the GM of Paramount`s Kings Island. Press Release Groundbreaking Ceremony Pictures

Yes Sleepy Hollow Horror (the one they are constructing by IJST and International Showplace) debuted last season. It is was essentially replaced Route 666. The idea of the train being a haunted attraction for the nightly portion of FearFest would be good especially since it has a fairly high capacity. However, last season they used it during the daily portion of FearFest as the Pumpkin Patch Express. So they may ot be using it for the nightly portion of FearFest. (They also only ran three cars on the train, but had both trains running at the same time.) It would be cool to have the train take you back to a haunt maze back by Boomerang Bay or in the woods, or picnic grove.

Yeah, summer? What summer? I have been in class at UC all summer too. And with this being week 9 of ten weeks before finals, I am going to be very busy the next three weeks! I`ll have a nice break the first two weeks in September before I begin co-oping again (and even that is a break from school!)

Disturbing incident in the Scooby Doo Que Line...
CoastersRZ replied to Mikewhy's topic in Kings Island
Yes, I was at the park on Saturday and also noticed this situation at Scooby Doo. All the other rides (especially The Beast) were doing a good job of regulating the merge point. The problem I would assume would be staffing related, as I saw a couple of the guest relations people that took us on the ACE walkback manning the entrance to The Beast and other Walk on Weekend rides. -
Warren County Advises PKI To Ask Mason
CoastersRZ replied to Dan's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
And the fact that the Little Miami River is a state and national scenic park brings with it its own restrictions. For example, talks of the proposed Eastern Corridor project have focused on a new proposed bridge over the Little Miami by State Route 32. Some advocates are concerned over what environmental impact the new bridge would have. I`m sure if PKI were to install a water plant (which I doubt due to the operating costs) it would be met with protest from the protection under the state and national scenic river designation as well as by environmental groups. I just noticed that this was my 2000th post. -
Yep. I went back to Coney for a third season because I loved running their rides! (And Coney`s pay is far less than what PKI pays their ride operators). I might even be returning to Coney for labor day weekend and the last couple of weekends for a little extra cash on the weekends. I have thought about working at PKI because they are open longer into the season, but I am not sure I want to do that because it is farther from my house than Coney.

Are you referring to the black button up shirts? Because I rode IJST on Sunday, and the crew had switched to a grey collared shirt from the IJST black shirts that they had been using earlier in the season.
-
Yeah. I would imagine that the next thing they release will be the details about FearFest. I doubt that the 2006 announcement will be far away though.

Yes, time seems to fly by faster and faster every year. Epsecially for me this year with co-oping and then school this summer! I was lucky enough to get to PKI again yesterday with a friend from school. I probably won`t be back until Labor day weekend because of studio work and finals week! And then I will most likely be working back at Coney to help them out for their last couple of weekends. When I was at the park on Sunday, I rode Delirium for the first time since May. One of the workers noticed my Holiday World shirt and commented how it was a nice park and she had the same shirt, only hers was pink. Her name was Ariel (I think that is what I read on her name tag.) Is that anyone on this board? I also discovered that there is still a footing existing from the old Sky Ride. It is in the Bubba Gump patio, underneath the upside down rowboat. I knew the Animation Station was one of the stations for the skyride, but I never knew that the footer existed. I only found it when I was looking at the crazy fish that were fighting over the fish food.

I personnaly like the theme on FoF. It is a relativly good idea. It is unique and not commercialized like the rest of the park is becoming. In fact when it was called Outer Limits: Flight of Fear, the tie in was only with a couple lines in the preshow. It is one of the few rides that I can think of that actually lost the branding that the ride was named after, in part because the branding was not a huge emphasis of the theme.

The upperpart of the stage in the Festhuas remains. However they used to have a lowe portion of the stage in front, which was also used for the ice skating show. The show was moved to the Paramount Theater for a season or two, but I do not know if the stage (rink) was actually smaller than the one they used in the Festhaus.

Actually, Kenton`s Cove Keelboat Canal was removed at the beginning of the 2001 season for construction of TR:TR to start in mid July of 2002. KCKC was not open the last couple of weekends in 2000 either.

Unless you are on the train, Eiffel Tower, and possibly carousel, you are not permitted to take pictures. But I do not work at PKI so do not know if the taking of pictures is officially allowed on the carousel or other rides.
-
As far as I know, there is no rule against taking pictured while aboard the Kings Island and Miami Valley Railroad, the Eiffel Tower and the now defunct Antique Cars. All other rides, all loose articles must be secured or left in the station which includes cameras. If the operators see a flash from the train (they will stop the train on the lift until the person has secured their camera (I had that happen on the backwards Racer once). I believe there are signs on the rides that say the taking of pictures while riding is strictly prohibited.

There was one on a short lived Kings Island website, called guidetotheisland. The website launched briefly with scores of unique pictures, and one of them was of the Eiffel Tower halfway completed. Unfortunatly, the website was very short lived. It appeared and dissapeared back around early 2001. It was run by the same guy that ran coasterguide.com, which is also now defunct.

I highly doubt they will remove White Water Canyon. Why does everyone suspect that they will remove every ride? Granted they did yank the Eagles out, for no apparant reason other than to use it as a new ride at Carowinds. But Top Gun, Vortex, and not WWC have all been mentioned as possible rides to be removed. As far as Wings goes, I have heard rumors that it may be transformed into a Nickelodeon Cafe, which would make it a more popular attraction for kids. I don`t know what they would do with the Montgomery Inn wings. Part of the problem with Wings is that it is more of an upscale dining establishment, but is not really in a good location. There is no signature ride or attraction near it that keeps guests in the general area. One of its advantages is that it offers a large indoor eating area. Only Wings and the Festhaus have indoor eating areas (with the exception of the small in door areas in Starbucks and Graeters and the Mexican restaurant on I-Street)

The ivy covered tunnel was shortened when HB was renovated in 1998, and not moved. Its a shame they shortened it, and made it only a shading device for tables. It was cool to walk through the ivy covered tunnel. Not to mention that it provided quicker access to the heart of Rivertown, without having to pass by the very busy food stands in HB. Also, it provided a large cool place for people to sit and relax away from the summer sun. To think that the other end of it was replaced by a dumpster and food/drink carts.
