Inside the Demise of the Record-Breaking Coaster That Went Too Far
Oldiesmann replied to Oldiesmann's topic in Kings Island
That would place it between 1984 and 1986. King Cobra opened in 1984 and Vortex opened in 1987. -
Another great article from @bkroz on TPT... http://www.themeparktourist.com/features/20160302/31662/son-beast

Making everyone enter there makes more sense. Making people drive all the way down to the old entrance just to drive back the way they came is a bit ridiculous, and it also gives more room for traffic entering from the south, helping relieve possible backups on I-71.

Just an FYI, audio/video recording of shows is typically prohibited (likely due to music licensing restrictions)...

VR coming to 9 Six Flags Coasters
Oldiesmann replied to marth555's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
If it happens very often, this "feature" will likely quietly disappear without any mention from the park. -
VR coming to 9 Six Flags Coasters

Funniest post about this I've seen yet, courtesy of mobile tech site pocketnow: (Link to the article: http://pocketnow.com/2016/03/03/six-flags-gear-vr-roller-coasters) -

I remember that. As I recall they did similar things with other footers.

VR coming to 9 Six Flags Coasters
Oldiesmann replied to marth555's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
http://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/experience/america/2016/03/03/six-flags-virtual-reality-roller-coasters-2016/81224838/ So you turn your head to explore the environment. That alone is just asking for trouble - turn your head the wrong way at the wrong time and you could end up with serious whiplash or possible even worse injuries. I don't see this lasting very long at all. Sadly, a serious injury is likely what it will take for parks to realize this is a bad idea. -
It's been mentioned in this topic a couple of times. It will be the Friday night before opening day (April 14th I believe) and is only for those who renewed by November (per Don). Further details have not been announced.

Valravn track construction is complete now (no word on whether they're done with the station and other related work yet). https://twitter.com/cedarpoint/status/705098056455299073 -
I-75 in Tennessee Closed (again)
Oldiesmann replied to Oldiesmann's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Why exactly are they putting time restrictions on this? I know that it's got to be a pain to detour traffic like that, but giving contractors a set amount of time to clean up debris from something they have little control over seems like a big risk. -
Whither Conneaut Lake Park Now?
Oldiesmann replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I'm confused. $52,500 for a 999-year lease but it says the lease rate is $1 per year. So basically you're buying the "cottage" then paying an additional $1 per year to lease it? -
I had completely forgotten about Wild & Crazy Kids. Given that I would have been in elementary school in the late 80s, I must have caught it during reruns as I definitely remember that show. Also, every time I see videos of the original Colossus, I'm annoyed that it's not possible to ride it that way anymore, since Six Flags had to go make a "twisted" version of it.

I-75 in Tennessee Closed (again)
Oldiesmann replied to Oldiesmann's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
The fact that the majority of the people driving those roads will be tourists unfamiliar with local speed limits and unable/unwilling to fight the charges in court has nothing to do with it of course. -
I'm doing the 1pm tour. More ride time between the tour and the other activities.

Do we win a prize if a loose article happens to fall through one of the hoops while we're riding?

Heads up for anyone planning to go to down towards Dollywood in the coming weeks/months... A rock slide on the northbound side of I-75 in Campbell County, Tennessee has closed the freeway in that area until the mess is cleaned up... http://www.wbir.com/news/local/rockslide-forces-closure-of-i-75-section/57692675

And unfortunately the detour for said closure takes all that traffic right past KI - up either Mason-Montgomery Road or Innovation Way to Western Row, east past KI Drive and back south on Columbia to Socialville-Foster.

Those are wood coasters though - not a steel coaster with an elevator lift and 116-degree drop. -

Also interesting to see that Cannibal at Lagoon Park was designed by a former Arrow engineer. I was wondering how a small park could come up with something like that in-house. -

Just finished it (had to pause it a few minutes because the dog wanted out). Very well done documentary. I never realized just how influential they were in the industry. It's such a shame they met their fate the way they did. -

Watching it now. Since we have a Blu-Ray player with a YouTube app on it, I'm watching it on TV rather than on my computer
