I never have figured out why it has a Butler County postal code when it's in Hamilton County. I guess Hamilton is the nearest incorporated town, though you'd think Fairfield would be closer.

Throwback: (P)KIcentral's Tribute to the 2004 Season
Oldiesmann replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
Rivertown period was like a step back in time then - swan lake, the stage, the great music (my favorite was "Out Behind the Barn" by Little Jimmy Dickens)... -
What ride would you not ride at Kings island.
Oldiesmann replied to CP&LERR Fan's topic in Kings Island
There are only 4 for me - Linus' Launcher, Sally's Seaplane, Woodstock's Whirlybirds and Xtreme Skyflyer. Linus' Launcher is fun, but it's a bit painful on the knees and hard to get in/out of. Seaplane and Whirlybirds are rather boring (though probably not if you have a kid with you). Never really liked Skyflyer - initial drop is fun but I got bored after that. -

Flying Eagles, 'Tiques, Sonny with a loop, the Nick parade... Those were fun times -
That's nothing. When my sister and I both worked at KI in 2005, she ended up getting sent to the funnel cake stand on I-Street one night, and we didn't get out of there until 2am - and then only because she told them she had to go because her ride was waiting. Being on I-Street, that stand is one of the last to close, and apparently takes a really long time to clean up (why it takes so long is beyond me - surely it doesn't take more than an hour or two to clean the machines, sweep, mop, etc.) Nope. There's a reason you don't see them much during the hotter months.

Camden Park: Hot Summer Nights
Oldiesmann replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Non-mobile version: http://www.herald-dispatch.com/features/x1489433553/Camden-Park-to-feature-Hot-Summer-Nights It's a shame Camden is 3 1/2 hours from here. It sounds like those concerts would be a lot of fun. -
Holiday World will be hosting their 2nd annual Rock The World Christian Music Festival on August 24th. Headlining the event this year will be Switchfoot. Kutless, Audio Adrenaline (new lineup with Kevin Max) and Adam Cappa are also playing, along with some local/regional bands. See http://www.holidayworld.com/RocktheWorld for more info and to buy tickets. I'm hoping I can make it to the show this year. I wanted to go last year as well, but ended up not having the finances to do it.

This path is in the southwest part of the park - go through the riverboat gate and down the hill towards the river, then take a left and you'll see the boats. It ends up near the basketball courts and picnic shelters at the back of the park. It's entirely possible they're used as props, but it's unlikely they were put there intentionally, considering how much work it would take to leave two abandoned boats in the dirt several hundred feet from the river like that. I tried emailing the park for more info, but it just bounced back saying "unknown user" (the "info" address used for the "Administration/General Information" option on the contact form apparently doesn't exist). I'll try contacting them via FB or Twitter and see if I get anywhere that way.

Beech Bend would be the most exotic for me. It has a rather odd assortment of rides, many of which seem out of place there (Kentucky Rumbler, Power Surge, etc.), and it's hard to believe this park is in the city, as its location (at the end of a long, tree-lined, two-lane road off a busy highway) makes you feel like you're in a smaller town.

It's not in Mason. It's at Coney Island east of downtown Cincinnati.

My sister and I wandered down to the riverboat "gate" this afternoon to take some pictures. We decided to see where the path near the river went, and stumbled across two abandoned boats - one on either side of the road. Does anyone know the story behind these? It looks like both boats have been there for quite some time, and one has a registration sticker from 1991 on it! I'm assuming they were somehow washed up on shore during a flood, but I've never heard of them being there before. Here are the photos I took of them: Coney Island Abandoned Boats

Assuming I'm off this coming Wednesday, I plan to spend the day at Coney (possibly partly in Sunlight Pool depending on the weather) and take in the fun of Balloon Glow. Anyone else planning to be there?

Weight Distribution and Spinning on Monster
Oldiesmann replied to LordSkippy's topic in Kings Island
I can get it spinning really good when we're waiting to be unloaded - rock back and forth until you get it to go in a full circle, then continue leaning from side to side as needed. I haven't figured out how to keep it spinning in one direction the entire ride, but some people seem to be good at that. -
That's because most of the people posting TRs are not the type who buy fast pass wristbands.

Impressive show to say the least. I don't know how something like that would work at KI though, but if they do it, let's hope they keep it maintained better than the current "Snoopy's Starlight Light Show that used to be Spectacular but really isn't anymore"

Slightly off-topic here, but since it was asked and never answered... To ignore/block a user: Scroll to the top of the page Click the arrow to the right of your username Click "Manage Ignore Prefs" Enter the user's name in the box (it uses auto complete, so start typing and click on the appropriate name when it pops up) Check the appropriate boxes to indicate what you want to ignore from that user Click "Save Changes" Repeat the previous three steps for each user you wish to block.

Skip ahead to 1:24... It's not great, but given the quality of home-movie equipment of the time, it's probably the best we're going to get.

What's Up With Snoopy's Starlight Spectacular?
Oldiesmann replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
In 2004 there was a Pink Floyd laser light show at Timberwolf... http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/792-pink-floyd-laser-show/ -
Beach Reopens
Oldiesmann replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Having worked at The Beach in 2006, I wouldn't be concerned with a lack of visible lines from 71. It's a good sized park (bigger than many would think), and many of the popular attractions aren't visible from the freeway. -
What's Up With Snoopy's Starlight Spectacular?
Oldiesmann replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
I'm really surprised it's lasted this long. It was indeed great the first season, but has deteriorated since then. I also noticed they're no longer selling 3D glasses for the show either. -
Channel 12 reported that KI was working with the banks of affected customers to reverse the extra charges. As far as Applebees - if this happened to hundreds of customers you'd probably hear about it. If this had only happened to a small number of guests at KI, you probably wouldn't hear anything about it either.

Kings Island angers special-needs parents
Oldiesmann replied to MarketingExpress's topic in Kings Island
Unfortunately this is one of those "no win" situations. No matter how hard you try, you will always end up offending someone at some point, and it turns into a PR nightmare when those offended become vocal about it and try to spin it into a "you're not being sensitive to my issues" story rather than trying to see why the park does things the way it does. The old policy that Gordon described seems great on the surface, but it's a huge logistical problem. Two different employees might evaluate the same situation in completely different ways, and, as others have pointed out, a lot could also depend on the environment - if the child is having a good day it may seem like a mild learning disability, while on other days the severity of the autism might be much more visible. It's also very difficult for ride ops and managers - they have to remember the specific policies for each pass, all while trying to pay attention to the ride and ensure they don't overlook their normal responsibilities, especially when the "driver" is the one doing the evaluation (since they're often the most experienced of the employees currently working at a ride, though this varies depending on the specifics of each ride). On top of that, some people with disabilities may feel that you're not treating them fairly - someone in a wheelchair who has trouble walking has to return in 30 minutes but someone else can ride immediately without a designated wait time. The new policy clears up a lot of the issues with the old one. Everyone with a disability is now treated equally, so there's no more confusion about which policy goes with which pass, no possible problems with two employees diagnosing a situation differently, etc. While it unfortunately does cause problems for people with severe autism, it's much simpler for the park to do things this way. I'm sure the park, with enough advance notice, would still be willing to work with families to ensure that they have the best possible experience (especially given Ouimet's emphasis on giving guests the "best day ever"). Getting back on topic here, it's hard to say what KI and CF can do differently in this situation without knowing all of the details from both sides of the story (something which we will likely never know). I do get tired of the "it's their fault because I didn't know about it" excuses, but I also get tired of the "it's on the website" excuse as well. Sure it's easy to put everything on the website. That way you can't say you didn't at least make an attempt to publicize the changes. However, not everyone visits websites, nor do those who do take the time to see what policies might have changed since they last read up on them. KI and CF need to evaluate this situation and figure out what (if anything) they can do differently in the future. I find it hard to believe that the park and CF have been all but useless in the area of addressing the concerns/complaints (under Kinzel I might have believed it, but certainly not under Ouimet!). -
Here's the original thread: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/20856-a-whale-attacked-and-killed-a-trainer-at-seaworld/ (If you're wondering how I found it - I searched this site for "dawn brancheau" via Google)
