  1. ^ I saw that quote and just chuckled. Leave it to a mayor to say something rather questionable like that.
  2. I really hope that is just a bad picture of her. At first, I thought it was Pugsly from Addams Family. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pugsley_Addams
  3. I believe there are two big reasons. At one time TG was a great, and immensely popular, ride. This modification to a ride that is almost 20 years old will spark intrest by those who have not rode it in quite some time due to how rough it is. SF was able to find someone that is willing to do the work.
  4. There will be more "foreign" visitors to CP than KI. CP is located between the 11th & 41st (Detroit & Cleveland respectivly) most populated cities in the US, whereas KI is located near the 57th and 152nd (Cincy & Dayton). CP is a "melting pot" compared to KI's "hometown" feel. CP also needs to have the housing facilities as Sandusky cannot support CP's summertime employment needs.
  5. You first mentioned familes and thrill seekers here: And than, somehow, you started comparing individual rides between CP and KI. It makes no sense. Aside from that, both KI and CP go after the same audience, that being everyone. They always have, and they always will. Trying to make the parks complete opposites would be bad business. Would you suggest that a paticular movie theater only show romance movies and another theater down the street only show action movies? Obviously, that would be stupid. The parks have to cater to all guests. Somehow enthusiasts have this belief that most people will travel all over the country/ World to visit a park. When in all reality, people that travel to a park like CP, KI, Hershey, Kennywood etc. come from a (rough guess) 200 mile radius which happens to be near a well populated city. Enthusiasts will travel all over, but those same enthusiasts are a very small percentage of a park's attendance. Just because one park wins Golden Ticket awards for best park does not mean they are primarily a thrill seekers park. The same goes for a park that has won a Golden Ticket 9 years running for best kids area- winning does not make that park a family only park.
  6. You lost me. How did we go from discussing bringing in families and thrill seekers to comparing individual rides?
  7. TG was one of the best wooden coasters and deserves the investment. Can the same be said for SoB? Onto the other discussion... No. KI has not marketed to families, and CP has not marketed to thrill seekers. They have both marketed to all guests. CP has not added just coasters to keep up with their 12 year run at the Golden Tickets, and KI has not just added to Nick Central/ U just to keep their 9 year run going as well. CP has three seperate kid's areas (how many parks can say that?), and has renovated them numerous times. CP also caters to families with: great shows for all family members, sandy shores of Lake Erie, and on-site hotels and restaurants. KI added 4 coasters and three major thrill rides from 1996 to 2006. Most of those thrill rides at their inception were cutting edge.
  8. That is true, those costs are sunk costs. While the total costs for SoB are gone, it is still a factor. Banks and insurance companies certainly care how much has been spent, and Greg Scheid cares as well, or he would not have mentioned the $30 million already spent. http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/blog/2010/03/kings_island_hopeful_new_owner_or_not.html
  9. Beast lake was virtually stagnant. The bugs, smell, and litter were terrible in the last few years the lake was there. Early on, the water themeing next to Beast's station worked and was pretty neat. I'm not sure why it was not always on, but I'm sure it had to do with the pump clogging up with crap people dropped/ threw in the lake
  10. If SoB is taken down, and a new ride is built in it's place, I highly doubt the "Beast" name will be used.
  11. In 1979 (the earliest I can remember), my family brought food & drink to the parks in coolers. We simply would meet back at the car and have lunch & snacks. Dinner at KI was at IR if we had the extra cash, if not, dinner would be sandwiches as well. There is absolutely nothing wrong with bringing food to the park. And for most parks, not only does bringing food make economical sense, the quality is better too!
  12. *shakes head* Dang! If I would only have thought of that!
  13. ^How can you throw it away? Return on investment. SoB's current price tag is somewhere around $30 million. Another $10 million would out it in the catagory of one of the World's most expensive coasters. I can't see how SoB is worth it. Could GG fix it? Putting aside if they would take the SoB project on-I really don't know. My question is, what could they do that has not been already done?
  14. ^^^I suppose I should explain myself better. Yes, Intamin has had problems with both TTD and KK, and those problems have been worked out, years ago as can be seen with TTD's ridership numbers. SoB's problems have been ongoing since 2000, and other firms have come in and tried their best without positive results. For another firm, like GG, to come in and make additional changes, and, take on the responsibility of SoB's safety is more than some firms wish to take on. If, heaven forbid, SoB had another accident after another "fix" was done; what do you think would happen in the media? They would go nuts. In every article would be the name of the engineering firm that recently "fixed" SoB. That engineering name would then be tainted not only for future projects, but for past ones as well. As enthusiasts, we understand the situation; but for the general public, they would overreact due to the media propoganda that is associated with situations like this.
  15. ^^ But firms like GG would have to want to work on SoB. Given SoB's history, that is going to be difficult. GG and others have reputations, another failed SoB modification would only ruin it. And convincing them to do it is only one hurdle. The other is cost. CF could throw, say, $10,000,000 at an engineering firm to fix SoB. Is SoB worth that price tag?
  16. ^ I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "parents".
  17. ^ And if you do have a difficult time finding one this summer, I would be banging on the customer service window. I have no problem with a price increase, as long as they can justify it.
  18. I was waiting for a "FLASH: aHAAAA" lyric with that background music.
  19. ^ So do you carry the bag with you, or get a locker? BTW, your items make complete sense. Also, I am glad to hear you wear short shorts. Big boy cargos would not do you justice.
  20. I would say that you hit the nail on the head. Even though Skyline is owned and located in KI, the park still has to follow franchise rules/ contracts. Chick-fil-a at CP is closed on Sundays per the franchise specs and TGI Fridays in HB at CP has to follow all the NUMEROUS franchise rules.
  21. SoB's main issue is the track gauging causing the shuffling back and forth. If the park would replace the supports like TG, and the track gauging, it literally would be a whole new ride. On a side note, I miss this thread....
  22. But isn't that what the metal detectors and security employees outside the Front Gate are for? I don't necessarily mean illegal items, just unnecessary items (i.e. I-pods, laptops, truckload of clothing etc.)
  23. IMO, I really can't understand why people, mainly teenagers, have to bring in a backpack inside the park to begin with. Raising the cost of a locker not only can limit a person's spending in the park for items won/ purchased, it can also limit the possibility of people bringing in unnecessary items into the park.
  24. I really don't think the CF brass cares. SoB to them is like obtaining a brother-in-law through marriage for us. It is what it is....
