KENTUCKY KINGDOM CLOSED
I'm not totally sold on the power play theory. Given the state of the economy and SF as a company, if the lease is too expensive and the park will not make money (or even break even) what is the point of staying open? I can see SF just trowing in the towel if the deck is stacked against them, which is a typical attitude of many businesses going through financial issues. If one park is making money, and another is not, the company is not progressing. And what investors have faith in companies stuck in neutral?

White Water Canyon's 25th Birthday
I can remember waiting for well over an hour for WWC back in 1985. The humidity is those trees was terrible!. WWC is definately one of the better raft rides. I am not a particular fan of the "waterfall dump" rides.

The difference being TTD is no longer a maintenance nightmare as the ridership has increased each year from 562,438 in 2003 to 1,210,327 in 2008. http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/rides/coasters/top_thrill_dragster/index.cfm

All too true. See also: throw good money after bad also pour good money after bad to spend more money on something that has already failed If you try to fix that car, you'll simply be throwing good money after bad. There's got to be a better way to save our children than pouring good money after bad into government agencies.

Kings Island's 2010 Schedule Released
Many businesses will have their 4th of July holiday "vacation day" on Friday, July 2nd and not Monday the 5th. I can see why the park would not be open late on a Sunday when many people will have to be at work on Monday morning. But that still begs the question of why not have the park open till midnight on the 2nd.

And you'll never guess what other coaster is ranked rather close to Grizzly. Rather consistantly as well.... http://www.ushsho.com/woodpoll16yeartable2009.htm

Well it depends what you mean. Do you mean the station? They could use that station for another ride (i.e. Vortex's station was origionally Bat's station.) Do you mean taking out the lower track sections like the rose bowl first? I can see that as a real possibility. But as with any construction project, you start from the bottom up, the opposite would be true for a deconstruction project. The main part of the lift hill would have to be taken down from the top down.

What's your favorite FAIL ride?
And the new owners will not have to concentrate on adding a $25 million coaster, a relocated & repainted flying coaster, a refurbished children's area, re-naming rides, de-theming rides themed to poor movies, or dealing with poor entertainment shows. If I were the new owner, a fresh coat of paint and some unused buildings would be easy to deal with.

$6 to $8 gallon gasoline...effect on park business?
Man, the media is a bunch of comedians. Sure, let's try and build real consumer confidence by writing an article and predicting that gas will go up about 200% in two years. Yeah, that makes sense....

What's your favorite FAIL ride?
Oh, really? When you bought your first house, did you have it furnished completely? Did you paint every wall? Did you decorate every wall? Chances are, no. We could not expect CF, or any other company, to come in a fix every problem Paramount let go in such a short time. I, like yourself, remember KI pre-Paramount. It was BGE-esque. It would be unfair to expect CF to clean up in a couple off seasons what took Paramount to dirty in over a decade. If CF had ingnored the park, I would agree with you. But the park looked better in 2009 than it has in almost 10 years- Even with a limited budget in a tight economy. Rome was not built in a day...

Cedar Fair: Sale? Re-Finance? What Next?
I would say relocating a good coaster would be feasible. But if the coaster is just so-so, then no, it would not be. The Phoenix at Knobels used to be at Playland Park in San Antonio, TX. It supposedly had a $1.5 million price tag for the whole move back in 1985.

What's your favorite FAIL ride?
I remember Paramount having the same type of music as CF. But even with the choice of music, it is nice, and usually cooler, to sir near the fountain on a hot July day. Why sit when you can ride! I like to sit back, take a break, have a frosty beverage, and "people watch". It is very funny on what people will actually do when they don't think eyes are on them.

Cedar Fair: Sale? Re-Finance? What Next?
No matter what happens, I hope that the park continues to improve as it has over the past couple years. It was starting to remind me of KI pre-Paramount.

When SoB re-opened without the loop and had new trains it was practically a new ride. Comparing a ride that is, for all practical purposes, a new ride vs. a ride that has been around for over 25 years IMO is uncomparable.
