I'd like a King Cobra ornament. And a Flying Eagles ornament.

Voyage to get new trains for 2010
Dvo replied to csikoth's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Wow. I just went from wanting to go to Holiday World next season, to almost certain that I'm going. -
I've never been to Canada's Wonderland, but based on reviews and general appearances, I think Kings Island has a better collection. I really like Busch Gardens Williamsburg as well... while they don't have many at all, the ones they do have are all amazing. Nonetheless I'd say KI has an above average collection of coasters and is well worth the visit.

Demon Drop for sure. It's one of my favorite flats. I love how crude and rickety it is, haha. It feels like the whole structure is going to collapse during the whole ride. I'll miss you, DD

Edit: Eiffel Tower is taken EXtreme Skyflyer!

I just got an email from Cedar Point about a discount going on until Nov. 13. You save $10 if you buy a new platinum pass, and $15 if you renew a 2009 platinum pass. I'm hoping/wondering if this is going on at Kings Island too, or if it's just at CP.

I'd have to say Galaxi or Cornball Express at Indiana Beach. When I say head choppers, I mean it...

Shapiro announced this a long time ago at one of the coaster events. It was just never fully released, apparently. http://coasterbuzz.com/Forums/Thread/56552...x?page=1#791411

Carowinds Planet Snoopy Names Revealed
Dvo replied to bkroz's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
At least they'll have the excuse that the names are meant for kids. So rhyming names will make the rides more identifiable for the little ones. But wow. Character Carousel. I really wish I could have been at that meeting, just to see how they approved that. -
I've never really gotten sick from riding rides, but I do remember going to Stricker's Grove many moons ago, and riding the Tilt-A-Whirl somewhere around 15-20 times in a row, and I was beginning to feel a little queasy haha. So I said that was enough of that ride.

Nice report. I really wish I could have gone up there one more time. But I did get 5 trips in this summer for a total of 12 days at the park (i think!), so I can't complain. I wish I would have known demon drop was leaving though... I love that ride.
-
Yeah the season always passes with the blink of an eye for me. It's easy to take it for granted that the park is open over the summer, and then once the off-season hits I find myself complaining that I didn't get a chance to go enough haha. Nonetheless I had a great year at the park(s) this year, and hopefully this off-season will go quickly.

While I think it would be pretty neat to have haunts at BB, I don't think it's feasible. That would be a TON of walking from haunt to haunt, a TON more area for security to have to oversee, and quite honestly, they already have 16 haunted attractions. You're kidding, right? The haunts cost TONS of money for the theming/decorations. That is why you see the same ones every year.. because it's cost-effective. If the park was getting much smaller crowds after a few years of the same haunt, they would most likely change them. But they are still getting great numbers with the same ones. And as for the idea of shipping stuff from park to park... Cedar Fair parks are very similar in their haunt themes. Club Blood is a common theme at several parks, as is a clown maze, cornstalkers, etc.

I've got another serious case of Whogivesacrap coming on. Nice post, Tchu. I think you're right on the money with that one. Best to just wait till all this blows over and once the heart of the off-season has set in and no one is thinking about amusement parks, then let the cat out of the bag. Dvo, getting back on point because some people are more concerned with the fun numbers on this site than the topics.

I thought I'd start a topic about all the trips everyone here made in 2009 to various amusement parks. I'm basically discussing all the parks I went to this year and my thoughts about them all. I'd love to hear where everyone went and what they thought about the parks! Note: my parks are not listed in any order. Kings Island: This one is easy, being the home park. A great year at KI. I must say that Diamondback has completely changed my habits up at the park. Before this year I would make the "loop" starting in Action Zone and working all the way around the park. Some of the highlights of the park were the smaller rides for me. But now Dback has basically just taken over the park for me. I go straight there every time I go to the park, and then I spend my "free time" there later in the day. The haunt is great this year too. Good times. Cedar Point: Still easily my favorite park. I made 5 trips this year, my personal best. And I got 43 laps on MF, my #1 coaster. I've gotten to know a few other Cedar Point fanatics rather well up there that make some of the trips fantastic. Good group of guys. I also went to my first two coaster events at CP, CoasterMania and BooBuzz. Both were fantastic, but nothing compares to CoasterMania weekend. Can't wait for it next year. Indiana Beach: This park always looked small to me, and it is, but it's also very fun! I made my first trip on a friday, knowing that I could only spend a few hours in the park. But that was more than enough that day. The rides were all walk-ons. Steel Hawg was slightly disappointing, I hate to say. But it's certainly different. I loved Cornball Express though. And Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain! That thing really caught me by surprise. I was laughing really hard the entire time. I strongly recommend a day trip. Holiday World: Wow. It's been several years since my first and only trip to HW, but I finally got back there this year for my first Voyage experience. In a word, incredible. It sets a new standard for wooden coasters in my opinion. Just a fantastic ride. Not to mention the last ride I took was during an absolute DOWNPOUR. Utter madness. Holiday World is still the friendliest, most cheerful atmosphere I've seen at any amusement park. A fantastic trip. Well that's it I suppose. It was a wonderful year with a LOT of coaster riding. No clue as to an official count, but if I had to guess I'd say I probably took about 500 rides on the coasters at these 4 parks. Diamondback, Raptor, Magnum, and of course Millennium Force really push that total up haha. I'm hoping to hit some more new parks next year. But we'll see

To me it's a worthless statistic. When I go over a hill it's either I a) get airtime, or don't. I don't think about how long I'm out of my seat. And no seat on Diamondback comes close to 1-3 on Magnum, in my opinion. Painfully incredible

^Nice avatar update CPer. I wish I had known this was happening last time I was up there. Would have gotten one more ride...

DORNEY is getting DEMON DROP?!
Dvo replied to CedarPointer's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Very very sad news to me, if this is true. And a big stress on the "if." Demon Drop is still my favorite free-fall ride. The weightlessness feeling you get on the way down is unparalleled by modern drop rides. -
^Correct. But there is only so much you can feasibly do to "inspect" a ride. I'm not sure who decides what needs to be inspected at what intervals (i'm assuming the ride designer or the state of Ohio), but they have to essentially pick their battles in that regard. It's just not practical to check the torque on every bolt, or check every support board one-by-one every day.

Student ID Discounts to HAUNT this Thursday (10/15/09)
Dvo replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
That's the worst news I've heard all day! -
Nice TR.. very jealous of the HW trip again. And yeah... those Eagles out there are strange. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't get the cables to snap. I even tried adjusting my method. No dice. And I was a pretty darn good flyer back in the day at KI... Here's to hoping I get to Carowinds sometime

Record Season For Holiday World
Dvo replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I made a trip out there a few weeks ago, and I'm glad I did. It's only about 3 hours away from me and it's well worth the trip in my mind. This is only my 2nd visit, but I'm sure there will be more to come. Hopefully I'll make a trip every year. If only just for Voyage.. -
Cut Throat Cove was pretty bad.. not scary at all. But Cemetery Drive takes the cake every year for me. It's so wide-open, and you can easily tell where the scareactors are hiding. Not to mention the massive groups they sent through at a time. On a bright note, I actually liked Death Row better this year than the last few times I've gone through it.
