My brother works at the park and he just texted me saying that they're running some trains on Son of Beast today.

I never went their during its hay day. I only made it up there during either its last or 2nd last season. can't remember which. But that place was terrible when I went. It was incredibly dirty, and there were only about 3 or 4 slides still in operation, and a lazy river. It was borderline depressing, really.

I've always said that my first Millie ride was the best I've ever done. At there's a good chance it may be the best I ever achieve. However this weekend I'm finally going to CP while Halloweekends is going on. That means a ton of fog on the island. My friends up north continually rave about how incredible the MF rides are at night, diving in and out of the fog. I'm ready for a fantastic weekend. And come on... everyone had to know that I was going to talk about millie for my 1,000th post! *disclaimer: the post count is absolutely worthless and should have no impact whatsoever on anyone's posting habits, nor should anyone expect or give credit to more "senior" members except under the pretense of more knowledge, not more posts.

^^well said, tggrr. Sure a fix might be "cheaper" than tearing down and replacing. But "cheaper" isn't the same as "cost-effective." Who knows if a "fix" will actually fix the problem. Then they're just doing what they've already done... pour money into an investment that will be a minimal, if any, return. It's hard to say that there is a true "cost-effective" solution to SoB. Right now it's just a matter of making the best decision they can looking into the future.

Well, after a lot of research (about 10 minutes ), the most recent incident of it running backward I can find for sure is in 2005. Although I'm pretty sure someone told me that they turned it around for the haunt in 2007. EDIT: Never mind, apparently this has been answered I'll have to tell my friend they are lying!

^They added some no-fall-through rails (the new boards that run parallel to the track between the rails). Nothing major to the actual track. They also used some lumber to replace the porches on the buildings in Frontier Town, and replaced many of the support beams on CCMR.

Out of sheer curiosity, I'm assuming that Illinois has different laws/practices regarding that operation? I know SFGAm has turned one side of the American Eagle backwards for their haunt on numerous occasions.. so is that because they're in Illinois, is it because it's a Six Flags park, or is it because they just don't bother heeding to the ride recommendations? Or something else...

For me I'd have to go with The Racer. I've ridden it every time I've been to Kings Island since I was tall enough (and that was probably about 16 or 17 years ago... ), and I've been to the park quite a few times in that span. Not to mention the days where I've ridden it several times. As a guess, I think I've probably ridden it about 400 times. But I'm catching up with my favorite, Millie! I'm up to 108 now. 39 laps last year, 39 so far this year and I'm making my last trip this weekend... total count: 108.

Speed Dating On A Roller Coaster
Dvo replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Not like Kings Island.... eating competitions, high wire walks, sports teams, concerts, tennis matches in the fountain, etc. -
If the weather is good, I might be there for opening night of the haunt. But I'm going to Fall Affair at Holiday World the next day, and leaving pretty early. Which means I won't be at KI long if I go at all.

Speed Dating On A Roller Coaster
Dvo replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Eh I say why not? If it's speed dating, the people are just meeting each other so (most likely) they're not going to be gettin fresh with each other right away haha. And it might draw a few extra guests that the park wouldn't normally see. -
^um. okay? I'm lost. Please check your spelling and make sure your posts make sense. As for the maintenance issues (I think that's what you're pointing out...), every coaster is liable to break down. Even something as reliable as Diamondback.
-
^The point was that that post was pretty worthless. And Browntggrr, you're right. Almost any park in the nation can say they have unique rides. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find one that didn't, with the exception of carnival rides & such.

1st book was pretty creative. decent story line and a decent twist. 2nd book... not so much.

Question about the special Thursday and Sunday nights on which the Haunt will be open... Does anyone know if all the scareactors will be there, or will the staffing be reduced because they are school nights? I think these will be good nights to go with light crowds, but if there arent many people to scare me I don't know if I'll bother.

SHOOT THE RAPIDS at Cedar Point
Dvo replied to firehawkboy's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
^^As has been discussed numerous times, the idea that there is a set time interval between coaster additions is virtually worthless. Of course I'm not saying that it's not going to happen, but no park says "ok, we're installing a coaster this year, so we'll have to get one within the next 4 years." Parks are planning well in advance and have a good idea where they want to be years down the road. -
wow. really? As for having unique rides, I think Kings Island most certainly does. SoB, Diamondback, The Beast, Vortex, and Racer are all very unique and have something to be said about them. Not to mention AE.. you'd be hard-pressed to find a better mine train coaster, in my opinion.
-
^okay... so would you say that the 2nd half of the corkscrews on Vortex are both drops? I don't think so. But it's a change in elevation.
-
1) Diamondback 2) Vortex 3) Flight Deck 4) The Beast 5) Racer

^To be quite honest, no. I don't see where it says PKI. However, if some small section of this site hasn't been updated in a while, so be it. There are many areas of KIC that I can honestly say I've never looked at. I normally just go straight to the forums, and every once in a blue moon I happen to look at the pictures.

I can't understand for a minute how Raging Bull gets so many votes. I'm assuming that being in the giant Chicago market isn't hurting its cause. Personally I think it's a boring ride at best. Congrats to Diamondback for getting in the top 10.

Right now, it's the final helix. Now time to show my age.. Back before the trim brakes were installed on the first drop and right before the 2nd drop, the 2nd drop was my favorite element. Not just on The Beast, but on any coaster. That used to be ridiculous airtime. I'll never forget my first ride. I thought for sure I would be flying out of the car. That was amazing.

part 1) Other... bouncing basketballs. part 2) Other... just the atmosphere, especially around this time of year, even more specifically last week. Crowds are dying down, the haunt is starting to ramp up, the air is a little cooler, but the rides are still rocking.
