  1. Now you're really getting my dander up Paul reminding me of the removal of one of the most charming rides in the park.
  2. I know exactly what you mean. Somehow KI ( although I still love KI. ) without Scooby Doo seems like Disney without MIckey Mouse.
  3. Personally, the kid's area just doesn't seem the same without the Hanna Barbera characters since that was what dominated the park in the early days. Also, Hanna Barbera is what I was raised on. However, I did enjoy the Peanuts shows such as Charlie Brown at Grandma's Farm ( or whatever the name of that show was) and Snoopy on Ice. And that light show was absolutely spectacular. ( Not quite as spectacular as the one at CP but still spectacular. )Most importantly, the kids seemed to love the Peanuts characters from my observation and that is what is most important. Therefore, I would consider Peanuts a great success.
  4. I caught the production of Phantom of the Opera at Fairfield High School 3 years ago and it was first class in every way. The guy who played the Phantom could really belt out a tune.
  5. As I recall, the first year of operation, Lion Country Safari was included with park admission and that in the second year, they added the upcharge of $1.00. Those photos bring back such memories of going to the park with my dad-the Lion Country Safari ride was one of his fav attractions-he loved anything having to do with nature.
  6. Love Sonic and Long John Silvers-not the most healthy food but, hey, we're talking about amusement park food.
  7. To me the logo" Make no bones about it, something big is coming to Kings Island" looks like the logo for the old Wild Animal Habitat which was on the site of SOB. Just an observation, I am not concluding that the plans have anything to do with SOB as I am usually wrong about such things. ( Remember, I am the one who predicted CP would be getting a B and M dive coaster this year. )
  8. For those who think that Don's hand over the SOB area reveals anything, don't forget "Ride Sally Ride."
  9. I don't think Flight Deck has aged poorly, at least as far as the ride experience is concerned. I agree with you there-my only complaint about Flight Deck is that the ride is too short.
  10. I also would like to add that I am priviledged to have Raptor Guy as a friend. He is a kind, decent person and goes out of his way to help others.
  11. ^I agree with you. It seems like Arrows with the exception of Magnum and Gemini just do not age well. I remember Vortex being very smooth in its first few years butnow I fear that I will get whiplash on the ride. It seems like B & M's do hold up well-Raptor now seems just as new and fresh as it was 17 years ago.(Note: Response to Raptorguy's last post.)
  12. I agree. Can you a imagine in a million years any parent would allow their child to work at such a position?
  13. Actually I think the Cedar Fair maps are kind of cute in their silly cartoonlike portrayal of the coasters.
  14. While I always loved The Brady Bunch, I always liked The Partridge Family better. I thought that Mrs. Partridge was a little cooler than Mrs. Brady since she played in a band with her kids.
  15. Unlike most of you, I have been around the entire 39 years of KI's existance through all the different managements. While each management period may have been different in certain ways, one thing I have always found to be the same no matter who was running KI and that is the wonderful and friendly staff. You can put millions into a park's capital investments but human resources are absolutely priceless. It is due in no small measure to the wonderful employees that I have become a regular fixture at KI during all these years.
  16. A great deal of the charm of Maverick's theming is the Western music-at least that was part of the charm. Now you can barely hear the music.
  17. ^My sentiments exactly. The Coney area has been too long neglected.
  18. The Beast was built during the Taft years, not during the Paramount years. Also, Winterfest was discontinued during the Paramount years except for 1 year. For me, the attempt at theming KI around movies just didn't work for me who grew up during the glory Taft years at KI. One of the reasons that I am pleased with Cedar Fair is that they seem to be going back to KI's roots during the Taft years, including bringing back the wonderful live shows.
  19. Once of my fav shows at CP was The Misadventures of Molly and Maverick during the first 2 seasons of Maverick.
  20. That reminds me of a time my friend and I were at the Ohio State Fair back in 1988. We were riding the paratrooper ride ( I call it the spinning umbrellas). The ride always spins real fast. To our chagrin, we noticed that the operator had left his post in the middle of the ride. I cannot remember how long he was gone but eventually he returned.
  21. Same here...although I am guessing that most of the kids are asking who is Avery Schreiber! I had to Google to find out who Avery Schreiber was. Of course, growing up in the 70's and 80's, once I saw his picture I knew exactly who he was! I remember Avery Schreiber-he and his comedy partner, Jack Burns ( He replaced Don Knotts in Andy Giffith ) used to have a variety show together. They were both really funny together. I also remember Avery Schreiber doing Doritos ads.

    The ERT Poll

I'm still not convinced that KI is going to stop ERT on DB and Beast-however, if this is the case, I certainly will miss morning ERT with my DB buddies Darlene, Karen, Don, Adam, Gary, Brian, and Roger.
  23. Does not hint at another ride being open for ERT. They changed the FAQ about Diamondback/Beast, and they removed the blog entry related to Beast/Diamondback being on the ERT. (Which was the only blog entry they removed.) Kings Island is watching this topic (they keep removing things as we point them out). There still is a chance. But right now, Beast/DB has been removed. I know some people don't view this as a big change. But, for some of us, it really is. We each have our own opinion. Some of us, the ERT on Diamondback/Beast was very important, especially seeing how it was advertised on their website. Just understand that as you read this topic. Just editing my post-I see the quote you are are referring to-to paraphrase in addition to WindSeeker, ERt will be available for Vortex-I understand now your point. However, there could be several reasons for KI removing the blog on DB and Beast-they may simply be trying to promote their new ride as well as the renovation of Coney Mall-why wouldn't they have such a blog? I feel that the allegation that there will be no ERT on DB and Beast is still based upon rumor-we will not know for sure what the facts are until we get an official release from the park.
  24. You just showed the photo of the only ride ( Winnie Witches Cauldrons)on which I had a "protein spill" in my almost 40 years of going to KI.
