  1. Reminds me of the time I stubbed my big toe getting onto Demon Drop. Ouch, that really hurt.
  2. Was this patron by any chance talking to a Dippin' Dots guy? I wanted to do that joke. ( LOL.)
  3. Enjoyed hanging out with the rest of the DB regulars, including Darlene, Karen, Don,Dan, and Phil. ( I apologize if I left anything else ) Also had a blast hanging out with Raptorguy and my friend Derek. ( Took my first Holiday World Trip with them.) On a side note, got to ride both the last train on DB and the last train on Beast. How, do you ask, did that happen? After Darlene and I finished last train on DB, we headed down to Beast to wait for the last train to come in. At the exit, the ride crew asks if we want a last ride on the train that was just coming in. ( Aparently, they decided to give that train another ride. The train that had just left, the intended last ride, turned out not to be the last ride after all.) Oh, I gave the people who thought they were taking the last train such a hard time. ( LOL.)
  4. You may get less crowds when it rains but why would you want to ride a ride while being stung in the face by rain? I certainly will take beautiful weather and crowds and a pleasant ride experience over no crowds and rain and a miserable ride experience.
  5. Another hint that the stand-up in the commercial is indeed Shockwave is the showing of Delirium in the ad-Delirium was installed after Cobra was taken out. And, yes, in the Paramount years, they routinely showed rides from other parks, like Anaconda at Kings Dominion. Also, notice that Cedar Fair is doing the same thing. For example, on the bus display at Haunt opening, there is a photo of CP's Mean Streak.
  6. That's what I meant-the more weight,ie people, the faster the train, the less weight, the slower the train.
  7. I think whether or not the trim is on also depends upon the weight of the train. Often I will get trimless rides at ERT when the trains are over half empty, which happened yesterday. This is usually combined with chilly/windy conditions.
  8. Thanks, Terpie. Its mind boggling how I go to KI all the time and know the names of everything except Rivertown Junction. Maybe because in my mind it is still Wings Diner and, even earlier, Columbia Palace.
  9. At one point, the single rider line for DB was almost back to the restrooms. I really think a lot of people thought it was the regular line. The main line for DB during the 5PM hour was back to the buffet. ( I can never remember the name of that place.) but I timed it at just 50 minutes. I wouldn't doubt if it took less time in the main line than the single rider line. Oh, won't people ever learn?
  10. In line for DB yesterday, a young girl behind me says to a group of people behind her that DB was an 8 hour wait on its first day and that the line was all the way to the park entrance. I turned around and explained that I was there opening day of 2009 and that the line was no where near that long. I explained that although the line went around to the LaRosa's in Rivertown, a friend of mine got in line at that point and clocked it at 2 1/2 hours. I also advised her that I had ridden DB 6 times that day. She responded that she had just "heard" that the line was 8 hours long. Again, yet another example of how the public gets or gives out the wrong information about line waits.
  11. I usually get to the park at about 6:30pm on Fridays. On Saturdays and Sundays, the parking lot opens about 1/2 hour before ERT starts and there usually isn't a whole lot of traffic during that time. A little tip if you run into traffic coming off 71 onto Kings Island Drive: Usually the traffic is backed up in two lanes. Go into the third lane or fourth lane on KI drive until you get to the entrance. Most of the General Public doesn't realize that the third and fourth lane lead into the entrance. That way you beat the traffic. ( SHHHHH, don't tell anyone. LOL.)
  12. Friday night crowds haven't been bad. There are lines for both haunts and the rides but I don't think they have been horrible waits. Saturdays have been packed and Sundays pretty empty.
  13. There are no ERT's Friday nights at Haunt. Saturdays, there is ERT at 11AM for an hour and on Sundays at 11:30AM for a 1/2 hour.
  14. Agree with you 100 percent. Also, very few wooden coasters can beat the airtime on Blue Streak.
  15. Kind of reminds me of the old fun houses.
  16. After Cedar Fair took over, KI started to have the dead ride cemetary as well.
  17. Thanks for the old map, Delorean Rider. It sure brings back wonderful memories. It also makes me so mad ( OHHHH) seeing all the wonderful old rides that are now gone.
  18. Just speaking for myself, I really don't mind crowds. I ignore what people say about how long line waits are and wait in the lines anyway and find that the wait is much shorter than people are saying. As I have said in previous posts, I find that most stated line waits are hearsay. The only way to find out for sure the wait is to actually wait in the line yourself. Also, I just enjoy people watching. I have to agree that after poor park attendance in recent years because of the poor economy, the crowds are welcome. KI to me is as essential to Cincinnati as the Reds. A near empty park is a nice dream but the reality is you need crowds for the survival and flourishing of a park. People take for granted the existance of KI. However, remember what almost happened to CP in the late 50's because of poor attendance. It almost became a housing development.
  19. Wheel of Fortune was one of my fav flats. If I am not mistaken, that was the old Cloud Nine at old Coney Island.
  20. I disagree with this. I have said this so many times until I am blue in the face but Cedar Point has tons of other things other than coasters/thrill rides. There are not one, not two but three great children's areas. ( King Arthur's Court, Planet Snoopy, Camp Snoopy), not one but two antique car rides, the wonderful Cedar Downs ride, three great water rides, a great train, a giant ferris wheel, great shows, etc. When's the last time you heard an average park guest describe Cedar Point and give the things you just listed as examples? I am simply stating the facts-they are as they are. I cannot speak for how the other park guests describe CP although several of my friends who took their children to CP when they were young loved the children's areas. One of my friends liked the children's areas at CP better than the children's area at KI. And when I am at CP it looks to me that families with young children are having a darn good time. And before you say that CP doesn't market to such demographics, their brochures speak otherwise, for example, the cute picture of the father with his little girl on his shoulders.
  21. I disagree with this. I have said this so many times until I am blue in the face but Cedar Point has tons of other things other than coasters/thrill rides. 22. I don't know about Six Flags as a whole, but I'd think this should very much increase attendance in Magic Mountain. Keep in mind that Los Angeles is an extremely touristy area. As long as Magic Mountain can keep this record, they will have a much easier time convincing people to visit Magic Mountain rather than Disneyland, Knott's, Universal, etc. Since Cedar Point does not have any nearby competition, it really doesn't help them very much... Keep in mind that many people go to Disney exactly because it is not a mecca for thrill rides. My sister hates coasters but she loves Disney. I, therefore, doubt that the number of coasters at Magic Mountain is going to make a difference in attendance at parks like Disneyland.
  23. I doubt that Cedar Fair is as surprised as many of you think about Magic Mountain breaking their coaster record. Remember, Cedar Fair has been pouring capital improvements into the former Paramount parks. I am not a financial expert but, to me, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that this would delay a new coaster at CP. Plus we have been going through a pretty bad recession in the past few years. And, as Terpie has repeatedly drilled into our heads, the biggest, baddest coaster does not in itself help the "bottom line". Some day, I would love to go to Magic Mountain but, right now, it simply is not within my budget. However, I am not going to suddenly run out to Magic Mountain simply because they have more coasters than CP. I consider myself darn lucky that I have a world-class park ( KI ) practically in my back yard and another world class park (CP) just a little less than 4 hours from me. A lot of people would give their right arms to be so close to just one park.
  24. It is immaterial to me whether or not CP has the title of park with the most coasters-who cares? It is still the same, great park even with the additions at Magic Mountain.
