Favorite ride at Cedar Point.
silver2005 replied to CP&LERR Fan's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I honestly can't think of many rides I've done at Cedar Point that I haven't like in some respect. The only one that comes to mind for not liking is Corkscrew, but only for the fact the trains are compact and bang up my elbows, its a fun ride to me none-the-less though. Even Mean Streak has some redeeming qualities to me. I consider Gemini and Iron Dragon vastly underrated rides. I have yet to do Gatekeeper so I'll reserve opinions on that until I've ridden it. -
Sigh. My thing on SFMM was in light of people saying KI would have the most inverted coaster track. I think SFMM has more even if this new coaster gets above 4,000 ft. Tatsu and Batman combined length alone beat out the entirety of KI's inverted track for length. I've never been to SFMM so I wouldn't go on comparing it to KI as of yet, its not my style to compare things I haven't done to things I have done. I would also be sad if Flight Deck was removed. It is the one ride that got me interested in coasters.

I think SFMM trumps KI even with the 2014 ride. They have Ninja, Tatsu and Batman and if you want to get really technical, add in X2 and Green Lantern, which have points where the track is inverted. I'm guessing KI doesn't come close.

There are key differences between an inverted coaster and a suspended coaster. Suspended coasters have mechanisms that allow the cars to swing, accentuating the curves. However, due to that, suspended coasters can't perform inversions, either having to go around them too fast to prevent the cars from falling over or if they go over them too slow, they will fall over and create problems. I think I've read that Arrow put in the swinging initially on The Bat to soak up the curves, which is a reason why the track wasn't banked. Arrow did plan on putting inversions in, but failed miserably (someone correct me if I'm off on things). B&M and Vekoma improved on this in ridding the cars of the swinging, making them rigid, thus making the cars able to perform inversions. That's why inverted coasters took off WAY more than suspended coasters.

A Stengel Dive has to be overbanked, specifically, the banking has to be above 90 degrees. The RR example isn't one. The only B&M I can think of that has one is Silver Bullet.
-
This is a Stengel Dive. It's simply a hill with an overbanked section of track at the top.
-
It looks like a dive loop into an Immelman to me.
-
B&M's biggest coaster before Leviathan was Europa Park's Silver Star at 239 ft, and to go for 300+ after that, well, that's a pretty large jump if you ask me.
-
Nemesis Inferno already has interlocking loops.
-
An inverted coaster with 8 inversions would be the most of any inverted coaster in the world. The only one with 7 is Montu.

As long as Flight Deck doesn't get blue supports in the near future. I'd love for it to be painted black track again. (I think it was that color once.) Flight Deck was never black. It was red and then went to the current gray. It's appeared black on previous park maps for some reason, but its never been black.

I think I might take my Milky Way bar now (can't eat nuts of any kind) and settle in up to the announcement unless something new and meaningful appears. This thread appears to be in a mobius loop of conversations otherwise.
-
I'll provide the popcorn since Monroe seems to be absent.
-
I tend to think Vortex fan is making the thread collapse in on itself with all his talk referring to KIC on KIC. Makes me think of this. Thinking too much on this thread is starting to hurt.
-
^Please tell me you're not posting while driving...
-
We've also discussed to death why it likely won't be a wing coaster and why Screamscape isn't the best of sources. Truly the discussions do go round and round... I think the picture in my previous post is pretty justified.
-
I'm sorry, but I have to post this at this point.
-
Where's Monroe when you need him? This thread is in need of popcorn. Anything to deviate from the annoying B&M vs Intamin ranting.

A sidewinder is a half loop followed by a half corkscrew. Its kind of like an Immelman, but the exiting of the element is much higher. Anaconda's second inversion is another good example. If it does the half corkscrew first, its a reverse sidewinder, which a good example of that is SFoG's Ninja's 3rd inversion.
-
Here's a POV of Joker's Jinx, filmed by the Discovery Channel (so it's legal), which is essentially a bigger outdoor version of Flight of Fear. The inversions are a cobra roll (2), a sidewinder, and a corkscrew. Seriously, for those of you wondering about coaster facts and stuff, rcdb.com will blow your mind.

There is one thing I thought of that would support the layout as most people speculate where the lift is behind Sling Shot. Those triangle footers might very well be for the lift hill. It might be that the 2nd element (I'm guessing a vertical loop) comes either really close or even threads the lift which would explain the use of the triangle footers to handle supports for more than the lift. Also, B&M usually sets up the track where the transfer is between the station and the train shed, which would make the station be right by the paths.

On those speaking of using 20 year old technology for an inverted- they still build wooden coasters, whose technology spans 100+ years. Just sayin'.

^Talon, Patriot, Great Bear, Nemesis Inferno, and Nemesis all have only 4. Flight Deck at CGA only has 3. Also, when I mentioned full circuit earlier, I was referring that KI could go for the tallest inverted coaster record for full circuit coasters without going for the overall record. Just because Wicked Twister is a shuttle coaster doesn't exclude it from being an inverted coaster.
-
Alpengiest is the tallest in the full circuit category at 195 ft with a 170 ft first drop. Of all inverted coasters, it is Wicked Twister at 215 ft.
