Colonial Vibes- silver2005's VA/MD trip TR and Planning
silver2005 replied to silver2005's topic in Trip Reports
So basically I'm waiting for my next paycheck to get in, then figuring out how to place the VA/PA trip so I get BGW and HP on optimal days, and then I book it. -

I have a few slight logistics questions- 1. CP- better on a Tuesday or Thursday? 2. How's MIA on a Saturday? 3. BGW- Monday or Tuesday? 4. How's KD on a Sunday? -

So the PA/VA portion of my summer isn't as bad on the budget as I initially thought, so I am officially adding MIA and staying a night in Muskegon for the northern Ohio/Michigan/Waldameer trip. -

I'm already doing 5 parks on this trip (and will be doing 9 overall if you include KI), I think I'll have my fill with that. I'm also pretty content sticking with what I'm planning. -

Just found HP is doing some sort of sale where they're knocking ~40% off ticket sales for the whole season including multiday passes. Woot! Lasts until March 31st if anyone else is doing a HP venture this summer. Also looking up hotels, finding nice selections in my price range for Williamsburg and I'm going to stay close to where I stayed for my last PA trip near Allentown/Lehigh/Bethlehem, just not in the hotel I dubbed the Snyder Hotel which is by the airport due to many unneeded shenanigans (BUT there's an AWESOME diner close to where I stayed and other good choices for breakfast). The early itinerary looks like this- Day 1- Travel to VA, explore downtown Williamsburg Day 2- KD Day 3- BGW Day 4- Virginia Beach Day 5- Travel to PA early, DP Day 6/7- HP and Knoebels Day 8- Longwood Gardens near Philly thanks to tips from malem and pianoman This trip is likely happening mid-July in hopes Grizzly will be open at KD. I'll also be doing a CP trip with Waldameer and possibly MIA added. Also expect to see a KK day trip shoehorned in here. Assuming everything will be open on my visits, I'll reach 150 coasters ridden, which will occur at HP so it'll be between RMC Wildcat and Candymonium. -

The more I read about how bad SIX parks have gotten under the new management, the more I feel like I've dodged a bullet dropping SFA from my trip. And even though I'll be in the area, I'm not even considering SFGAdv either. -
I think KI could use another good burger place outside of Juke Box.

I think the Surf coaster is a misstep. Stand ups died off for a reason, and the ones already running have their lines die off quickly. I'm not sure they will take off again unless B&M found a way to make them significantly more comfortable. EDIT: I finally saw the trains in pictures, the vest restraints should help, but bicycle seats + stand up + positive G's = mass discomfort. Also, I've had my fare share of bus rides where I was forced to ride standing up, and I will say that wasn't very ideal, so the thought of doing a launched stand up coaster sounds like a bad idea. High speeds and larger elements also contribute to higher positive G's which is what you don't want a lot of on a stand up. At parks with stand ups, I always ride them early as if I ride them later, my legs really don't like it after walking around a lot. The layout at Sea World has an inversion, a horseshoe, and several helices, curves and s-bends. Also, all stand ups by default don't have the best capacity due to having to manually adjust each seat to each rider. I remember Mantis and Green Lantern at NJFTP having pretty slow dispatch times and constantly stacking all the trains and having 28-32 seats to adjust and check.

Doesn't BGW have a clause with B&M that they can't build a new coaster at KD? (Dominator got around it as it was a relocation if I have things straight)

Won't be there for the event, but may stop by for funzies.

There is footage somewhere that shows full size test cars at the Utah plant going through a corkscrew and it'll give you whiplash watching it fling the swinging cars over the top.

Uhhh....Coney Island and Skyline coneys have next to nothing in common sans being named the same. Same names do not equate to theming as much as you guys want to overthink it. Pssst....they're keeping 2 Skylines in the main park. I imagine part of the deal between the park and Skyline/LaRosa's is a sales quota that may require multiple locations.

I think the video I posted was them making it for the history with the 50th anniversary last year. -

It was also supposed to be yellow track instead of black according to the teaser footage. -

In addition to the new PA portion, there's a slum chance I may even add DP now. -

So I've been looking into the stuff going on with Six Flags parks and I'm seeing SFA being hit the hardest, so I'm opting out of SFA. I will likely scratch the Carowinds possibility in favor of HP and Knoebels now. -

I never thought I'd see the day where TPR was irrelevant, but here we are. silver2005, basking. -
Looks like there will be a big contrast between the new area and Coney Mall.

Carowind's Fury325 Webcam is upside down

Upsidedown Carowinds seems awfully bright and colorful.... Anyone know where Millie Bobby Brown is? -
I remember the first 2 films, Days of Thunder and 007: License to Thrill were both hugely popular. The line would snake past The Racer hills and sometimes even past Vortex's station despite the HUGE capacity when both theaters were in use. The films after didn't have the notoriety of the movie IP films, but they still held their own. Then they let it die down after Spongebob and they had a dino movie to coincide with Dinosaurs Alive! without the seats being able to move. It had seats that basically made it a giant motion simulator. I've been looking for on-ride footage of DoT and 007 for a while and have come up nothing.

Anyone have any suggestions for lodging around Richmond or Williamsburg? Also dining suggestions for Virginia Beach? I may also hit downtown Williamsburg briefly as well.
