  1. I'm surprised this thread hasn't been locked as redundant yet.
  2. I know I'm a few days late, but as it wasn't mentioned, I should add that I believe the park also offers a VIP tour experience (for a fairly steep price tag) that includes exit access to all rides for several hours, among other benefits.
  3. 25 years ago today. The darkest day in Kings Island history. See http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php/topic/1568-deaths-at-kings-island/?p=15784 for more details on Black Sunday.
  4. IIRC, back in 2012, I found that Kenny Chesney's "Living in Fast Forward" worked reasonably well with the pace of the ride. Not perfect, of course, far from it, but reasonably well. Of course, my memory could be playing tricks on me.
  5. I don't care where my car is or how safe the neighborhood is. I never, ever leave anything of significant value (including black market value, such as prescription medication) in a car where it is visible. I always hide it in either the glove box, center console, or trunk. This would apply equally regardless of whether I am parked on the street in the neighborhood around Kentucky Kingdom or parked in my own locked garage in the safest neighborhood on Earth (not that my garage is clean enough to park a car in or that I live in such a neighborhood, mind you).
  6. I can see both sides of the argument here. On one hand, a lot of spielers just aren't good at it or sacrifice safety as a priority while doing it. On the other hand, occasionally you get someone who, when not distracted, is really, really good at it and manages to liven things up while still keeping safety first. In an ideal world, where I chose who to hire and put in each position, spielers would be completely separate from ride ops, in that spielers would just spiel and not do anything else on the platform such as checking restraints. Even the verbal "clear"/"station clear" signal to the control booth would be given by a designated ride op rather than the spieler. Additionally, those wishing to spiel would be required to audition through the usual live entertainment audition process, so as to filter out those who aren't any good at it. I don't know just how much of an improvement that would be, but it would be at least a smidge better than the current setup.
  7. IIRC from last year, I believe the Music in the Parks award ceremony is held in Timberwolf.
  8. Thunder Canyon has waterfalls. White Water Canyon does not. White Water Canyon has ride-op- and guest-operated geysers. Thunder Canyon, IIRC, does not. White Water Canyon's rapids present a much higher risk of getting soaked than Thunder Canyon's rapids. More generally, White Water Canyon's main soaking threats are the rapids and geysers. Thunder Canyon's main threat is the waterfalls. Thunder Canyon has larger boats that seat 12 riders. White Water Canyon has smaller boats that seat just 6 riders. As you can see, they are completely different rides.
  9. However, he says "Never mind what's under the railway bridge." I interpreted that as "ignore the trolls", since trolls live under bridges.
  10. And how many toll booths are there at the end of the road where it enters the parking lot? IIRC, there's only one toll booth.
  11. A few days with only the Chaussee for access to and from the park? Wow. That's going to be an absolute nightmare in terms of traffic.
  12. Maybe they know that I drove past the park down Kings Island Drive on Wednesday, and this is their way of crying for me to come back.
  13. Oh where, oh where did malem go? Oh where, oh where could he be?
  14. Obviously not the tower. The one time I saw Skeleton Crew at KI, during a Haunt meetup, the tower scene had to be abandoned because of a malfunctioning safety harness. At the time, I was disappointed. Now, I'm glad it got dropped from that showing. I vastly prefer the... I don't know what to call it but the thing that replaces the trampoline segment from the KI show. This is much better because it has more variety. The trampoline segment was the one part of KI's Cirque Imagine that I wished could go away, because it was overly repetitive and lasted far too long. That said, in this video, I don't understand why all four of the clowns in red are on stage during part of that segment; shouldn't one be backstage, having gone through the hole in search of the princess? At least KI's trampoline segment got that detail right.
  15. (Double-posting to clearly separate the rant above from this attempt to move the discussion back toward more lighthearted things.) Well, if we hadn't sat down at that table at 2:00 and chatted until 3:30, I might have had time. Or maybe it was no accident that we decided to chat until it was too late for you to go? We would have sat there chatting even longer if I hadn't stated that I was ready to go and stood up.
  16. You are using hypothetical situations to exaggerate what actually occurred. There was a thunderstorm in my hometown today (I could have been killed by lightning), I took a shower this morning ( I could have slipped and hit my head and died), I drove to work today (I could have been rear-ended by a semi)..... Suggesting that people were "nearly killed" on Shoot the Rapids is about a half step above the people who think that people were killed on Son of Beast and/or The (original) Bat! It is a wild exaggeration that unfairly casts the park industry (And, in this case, Cedar Point) in a negative light that is unfair, inaccurate and fuels unfounded rumors such as those mentioned above, which is why I even came back here. I presume you took appropriate safety measures during that thunderstorm, such as staying inside, that reduced your risk of dying to virtually zero. The odds of slipping in the shower and dying as a result are extremely miniscule. The odds of dying in a car accident are may not round to zero, but unless you had to swerve out of the way to avoid an out-of-control semi barreling down on you in a traffic jam, those odds are still low enough to be insignificant to this discussion. The Shoot the Rapids accident does not even remotely resemble any of those situations. A boat flipped off a lift hill and landed upside down in the water, with riders having their heads submerged and being unable to breathe or escape on their own due to the restraint pinning them in their seat. Without quick action by spectators who rightly decided that it was worth violating multiple park rules to save lives, those riders would suffer permanent brain damage in a couple of minutes and would be dead in three to four minutes, all without the ability to save themselves. The phrase "nearly killed" does not require injuries of any kind. Here, riders were stuck in a position that would have (not could have, but would have) killed them in four minutes or less, and were saved only by the quick response of other guests. If those other guests don't jump into that water, those riders would likely be dead today. That is "nearly killed", and to suggest otherwise is severely trivializing a traumatic experience for those riders.
  17. Pittsburgh Steelers LB doesn't care for Cincinnati gorilla, blasts city http://www.whio.com/news/news/local/steelers-lb-uses-gorilla-death-blast-cincinnati/nrYQB/ Stay classy, Pittsburgh sports.
  18. Well, if we hadn't sat down at that table at 2:00 and chatted until 3:30, I might have had time.
  19. Regarding permits: I seriously considered going to Mason city hall after leaving The Beach Waterpark today, even going so far as to look up the public records request closing time and put the address in my phone last night. However, by the time I left The Beach and got something to eat, it was after 5:00, so it was too late. If it wasn't 45 minutes away from home, I'd do it simply as a boredom killer.
  20. If nothing else, it's guaranteed to start a conversation or two.
  21. Failing that, also give SoundHound a try. I've had a lot of success identifying songs via SoundHound, although I've only tried the singing/humming search once.
  22. Can we please drop this subject and actually discuss Magenta Lizard's photos? You know, try a little decoding?
  23. See this thread for more information: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php/topic/30465-change-in-coaster-crew-membership-options-and-cost/
  24. There's a separate entrance from the parking lot. It's very convenient to park near this entrance and be directly in the waterpark. You can also get there via a walking path from Planet Snoopy or by riding the train from Rivertown. Also, shirts, shoes, and shorts/pants are required at all times when outside the confines of the waterpark. This includes when riding the train and when on the walking path between the dry park and the waterpark. You cannot strip down to your swimsuit or remove your shoes until you have entered the waterpark.
