Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees
jcgoble3 replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
(Bringing this up from a couple of days ago) I have now added that link to the opening post of this thread, along with a quick guide for new users (since this thread will see a lot of them). -
Conclusion: we adults try too hard, while the kids just do it without thinking. I guess Yoda was right after all!

Whither Conneaut Lake Park Now?
jcgoble3 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
At least it's a reorganization and not a liquidation, so hopefully the park, and Blue Streak, can survive. -
Bumpity bump bump bumpity bump bump... Some new details about Star Wars Land are out, and it's now revealed that guests will be able to pilot the Millennium Falcon herself! This isn't just a theater/simulator thing like Star Tours, though; the Imagineer in the presentation below stated, "Step aboard that iconic spaceship, the Millennium Falcon and take the controls yourself. You’re actually going to pilot this thing. You’re going to be the one in complete control, steering it through outer space, firing those lasers cannons, it’s all up to you so please be gentle with her." http://io9.gizmodo.com/youll-get-to-fly-the-millennium-falcon-at-disneys-two-n-1772962563 http://www.insidethemagic.net/2016/04/video-star-wars-land-presentation-at-disneys-awaken-summer-media-event/ Now this sounds really, really cool!

Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees
jcgoble3 replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
Not even close. August 6, 2013, began on page 399 of the original Decoding thread, with 11,944 posts, and ended with 415 pages and 12,435 posts. So 16 pages and almost 500 posts were added in one 24-hour day. To put that in perspective: we've had just 321 posts across the entire KIC forums in the past 24 hours. In late July and early August 2014, that number was regularly in the 900s and topped 1,000 on announcement day. If this does turn out to be a coaster, I have plenty of faith that we'll reach that point, but we're not even close yet. -
Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees

Although I won't be there, several people from here will be. If you're interested in meeting up with some of them, check the thread for this Friday in the meetups section of the forum. Of course, you don't have to; many users on here have never met up with others on here, and that's perfectly fine also. -
Do you know that those with the wrist bands were indeed not gold or platinum pass holders - many pass holders do purchase Fast Lane. The point he's making is that Fast Lane is not supposed to be able to be used during ERT. Even if you do have a Gold or Platinum Pass.

Wow. I'm beginning to lose all faith in humanity. Or at least the portion of humanity that works in food service at Kings Island.

Last time I was in the Subway in Soak City, that location (unlike the Coney Mall location) had microwaves and toasting ovens for hot sandwiches, plus a couple of extra sub choices (things that are normally served hot, like chicken). So it might be worth checking out when Soak City opens for the season. That said, if you want to take a sandwich home, you're wasting money by getting it at the park. There are many, many Subway stores near Kings Island, where you can get a much, much larger selection for far, far lower prices. (I'm constantly amazed at the number of families that clog up International Street LaRosa's at the end of the night to buy whole $25 pizzas to take home, when they could stop at a LaRosa's outside the park and get a much better quality version of the same thing for around half the price.)

But I like my orange Mello Yello! (Note that there is no "w" on the end of either word. ) And it only takes me three seconds to select it, and one extra second compared to a regular fountain to pour the drink (I tap the button briefly to purge the remnants of whatever the last person got before sticking my cup underneath). For those who have trouble with the machine, here's a tip. One of the most common problems I see is that people will select their drink before getting ice, and by the time they finish getting ice, the screen has timed out and they have to go through the entire process to select their drink again. Easy solution: get ice first, THEN select your drink.

Even when they work correctly, they are hit or miss, depending on the wielder's skill.

According to my weather app, there are storms moving through the KI area, so I assume so.

This also. When I walk into a fast-food joint and don't know what I want, I won't step up to the register until I have determined my entire order. If there are other people behind me when it becomes my turn, I will wave the next party in front of me repeatedly until I'm ready to order, otherwise, I'll inform the cashier that I'm not ready and will need a few minutes, so that they can go do other things (assist with drive-through, etc.) while I think. And if there's a new promotional item on the menu that I might be interested in but I'm not sure about, I won't go up to place my order until I know what questions I have about it, which answers to those questions will lead to me ordering it, and what my backup choice is otherwise. Why can't other people do this? To basically summarize this complaints in this thread as I see them, it seems like the poor food service is partly (some) customers' fault, partly the employees' fault, and partly management's fault. As there's little the park can do about speeding up the customers, and many of the issues with employees appear to stem from being poorly managed, management is the root of the problem here and is where the real fixes need to happen.

I just looked at the Diamondback camera, and can see people walking around on the midways. Diamondback's trains are stacked on the brake run, and a look at radar suggests that everything might be down for storms in the area, hence why you don't see rides moving right now

I was just going through all of my trip reports about two hours before you bumped this. Though I do have to wonder precisely what prompted you to bump it. Your bumps often have some hidden meaning that nobody figures out until much later...

Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees

Suuuuurrrre. Of course, he wouldn't tell you everything about what's going on, but I do think he's feeding you hints for you to post here in this thread. You either don't want to admit it, or have promised him to not tell us that's what's going on. -
Considering that poor food service on closing day is what finalized my decision to not purchase a season pass this year, I'll chime in. Minor correction: please have your order selections ready before reaching the ordering station. (Of COURSE you can't order until you know what your ordering selections are! ) But seriously, this is a great idea. No. Everyone who does not need a hand free to pay can just stop being lazy and hold their tray in their hands. There is absolutely no reason why a single family needs to put four trays down on the register counter all at once. Also, a family of four does not need four trays. Two meals can fit on one tray, so that family only needs two trays. And now my two cents (keeping in mind that I have not been to the park this season and likely won't be there until fall, if at all): If you have a 30-minute line to get food, there is NO excuse for having ANY register closed. This includes having no excuse for having one entire side of a two-sided location (e.g. Chicken Shack or Hank's) closed. To constantly have registers and entire sides closed when there is a 30-minute line is, as Terpy mentioned above, attempting to maximize profits at the expense of the entire public, and THAT is precisely why I finally decided to not have a pass at all this year.

Okay, Mr. Ryan, what is this 10th Wonder of the World business? I know you're close with Don, so what info is he giving you? And last I checked, Wonders of the World came in groups of seven, so what happened to eight and nine? -

And just like that, we have the first Snickers reference of this thread. I'm surprised it took this long. jcgoble3, snickering -
I'm not embarrassed, per se. I just know how to have a laugh at my own expense. (Which is an ability that too many people are missing these days, but that's a subject for another discussion.)

Ah, my mistake. I've been a bit exhausted the past few days, so I accidentally read "arrow" as "lane". *slinks back to corner*
-
For everyone like RailRider who is complaining about the lack of a left turn lane: it's coming. Excerpt from the first paragraph at http://www.imaginewesternrow.com/projects/kings-island-drive-improvements : So yes, a left turn lane is coming. They just haven't finished it. I'm going to hazard a guess that it will come with the new medians, which the traffic pattern was changed on Friday to accommodate work on. That work is expected to be completed in June. The overhead signage mentioned in that quote will also likely help to reduce confusion.
