VR synced up with a real roller coaster.
jcgoble3 replied to Sonofbeast2.0's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
And here's the website dedicated to the project: http://www.vr-coaster.com/ I would love to give this a try. -
Universal has a contract in place granting them limited exclusive rights to use Marvel characters in their parks, possibly only within a certain geographic area (I'm not familiar with the contract). That contract predates Disney's purchase of Marvel, and furthermore is apparently perpetual (i.e. no ending date), so Disney's stuck unless they can talk Universal into mutually terminating the contract (which would almost certainly require giving them huge amounts of cash).

As one Park seems to be getting rid of all Wooden Coasters?
jcgoble3 replied to westcoaster's topic in KI Polls
You need a "neither" option on the last question, otherwise nobody can answer the poll questions without saying one of them will go hybrid (you cannot answer one question without answering all questions). EDIT: As well as a "no" option on the first. After the SOB debacle, KI may very well never touch wood again for new coasters. -
^ I think it was a joke referring to the fact that these flat rides are normally found at fairs and carnivals. The "Zing!" in the next line seems to support that.

A part of the parking lot that's never used? Where dat? And Timberwolf? Where go Spirit Song? And the flagship Paramount Park is getting a giga. 2015. New, dramatically improved General Manager, too. Kings Island was the flagship of the Paramount Parks. No, it wasn't. Read the posts immediately below the one you quoted.

Larger does not necessarily equal more fun. See, for example, HUSS Frisbees.

Great video! Here it is embedded: -
Last year, we underestimated the impact that Dollar Days would have. This year, we've learned our lesson.

Got it. I don't have the new card yet, so I can't change the info yet, but at least now I know how to do so. Thanks to both of you!

Working fine for me, both now and when this was posted. Firefox and Windows 8.1 here.

Double posting to make sure this is seen: How do you change the credit card on you Easy Pay plan? I renewed my pass on the payment plan last Thursday, and today I received a letter from my credit union telling me that they are upgrading their entire credit card system, and as part of that, within the next month or so, I will be receiving a new credit card with a new card number, and I must switch all transactions to that card as the old card (the one I set up the payment plan on) will be permanently deactivated on October 22. So I'm going to need to change the payment plan over to the new card when it arrives. How do I do that?

Hold on, do you mean Coasters.Net? I actually found this site out of pure curiosity, seems old by the texts there. No, he's referring to http://coaster-net.com/. coaster.net redirects to rcdb.com.

More likely just a dry run to make sure everything is in working order and work through the usual opening day issues that many rides seem to have. Better for those issues to happen on a season pass preview night, when guests can come back at their leisure later in the season to catch more rides, than on opening day when many people have single-day admission and would miss some rides completely if they're not open when they walk by.

Fair point.

SeaWorld Misses Targets, Stock Plummets
jcgoble3 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
(emphasis added) As I understand it, per the word I emphasized, yes, YouTube can sub-license all of those rights to anyone they want to. That may make it legal, but it doesn't make it ethical. There's a difference between copyright infringement (a legal issue) and plagiarism (an ethical issue). -
Yay! Maintenance! Hopefully this is a sign of things to come....

^ You'd be surprised how many people will come out for Dollar Days and Bring-A-Friend Days combined. Also, Sunday is five days away. A rain forecast that far out has a margin of error of close to a full day. I'd not trust a rain forecast until about two days out.

Yes. Read this thread, particularly the previous page.

On days with normal hours, International Street LaRosa's typically opens around park opening, and Cinnabon opens with the park. Most other food locations do not open until one hour after park opening. That may be different with a noon opening, though, since people will be ready for lunch immediately. Back on the Friday after opening day, when the park did not open until 4pm, food locations opened with the park.

The extra train for Voyage came from Raven IIRC, which then had one-train operation for a season (2009 or 2010, I don't remember which). However, I think all three were restored to their original trains the next season (I know they all had two trains each). After that, Voyage did run full seven-car trains for a few seasons (at least 2011 to early 2013) before the seventh car was removed midseason in late June/early July of 2013.

Great report! A few notes: Voyage's last two rows being blocked off is not because of being set up for Timberliners. The trains on Voyage used to have seven cars; they were reduced to the current six cars early last summer. AFAIK we still don't know why. Howler always does two laps because of its short length. The Great Pumpkin Coaster at KI does the same. I'm surprised people were snapping the scooters. Everyone I've talked to has said that HW's scooters are virtually unsnappable because of their weight. I've been to that Denny's several times, and the service for me has been hit-or-miss. How was your service? Also, next time be aware that Kringle's Kafe in the park serves breakfast in the mornings for very low prices; I can fill myself up on their breakfast for under $5. That locker system is the best locker system I've ever seen in an amusement park, even edging out Universal's fingerprint system. And Kentucky Kingdom indeed has the exact same locker system. I would love to see KI get that system.

Firehawk nominally opens with the park, but from my understanding it has more complex morning testing procedures than most other rides, and so it does not always complete testing by scheduled opening. However, if it is ready when the park opens, it will open with the park. I've made a beeline to Firehawk at rope drop and ridden immediately several times.

Yes, barring mechanical breakdown or inclement weather (including high winds), all rides are open from park opening to park closing. The only exceptions are The Beast, which on 10pm closings must close temporarily at 9:45pm to accommodate the fireworks show (it re-opens after the fireworks for those who were in line by 10pm), and the Blue Racer typically opens a couple hours late and closes a couple hours early (or on very slow days it may not open at all). Red Racer, on the other hand, opens and closes with the park.
