  1. On August 27, 2012, Wet 'n Wild Orlando closed at 11:00 AM, one hour after opening, because there were fewer than 50 guests in the park, which was in the far outer edge of Tropical Storm Isaac (rain, but no wind). By 12:30 PM, the rain had quit and the sun came out and stayed out the rest of the day. On August 22, 2013, The Beach Waterpark closed at 2:00 PM after a single line of thunderstorms passed through. By 3:00 PM the rain and lightning had quit and the sun was back out for the rest of the day. I was present for both of those. Both annoyed me to no end. As far as I know, neither park ever issued an apology of any kind for either premature closing. And I still have not had a chance to get back to Wet 'n Wild Orlando and fully experience it. At least someone at Kentucky Kingdom saw fit to apologize on the same day.
  2. Baseball games do not have to sell out to be shown on regional television.
  3. From the park's Facebook, posted here without comment:
4. Create it as a normal Google Doc (two words, for those that care about trademarks ), then go to the upper right corner, click the button for sharing options, and set it so that everyone can edit.
  5. I archived it here: http://www.webcitation.org/6Rl9NlSH3 Most of the CSS styling is missing from the archive, but it does at least have the logo and some text for future reference. EDIT: GYK's screenshots are better. I didn't think the archive copy would appear that badly broken.
  6. ^ That is very possible. Don't make specific plans until they announce the details of 2015 pass sales.

  8. Yes, in the past few years passes for the following year have gone on sale on Labor Day weekend. That does not guarantee that they will do the same this year, though. Also, as The Interpreter mentioned, passes sold for the following year have, in the past few years, only been valid for a single visit in the year purchased, not for unlimited visits the rest of the season. Again, that does not guarantee it will be the same this year, but don't expect to buy a pass this fall and make repeated visits this year on it. Again, welcome to KIC!
  9. I wonder is not opening until 4 was a restriction imposed by the Fair Board, so as to give the carnival midway a couple hours to operate by itself and thus not take away too much of its business?
  10. Come on. I would totally propose in the front seat of Top Thrill Dragster. Propose on the launch, getting her shocked face in the first photo (after all, you may have discussed marriage, but she won't expect you to propose there of all places), then if all goes well get the "yes" on the way up the hill, put the ring (tied to a belt loop, of course, so it can't fly away) on at the top, and kiss for the second photo. Then buy the photo.
  11. Yes. Those are exactly the ones I mean. I would argue that they are not fit to be the owners of that park.
  12. I was referring to fall season hours. A fair midway not opening until late afternoon does not seem unusual to me. My local county fair two weeks ago did not open rides until 4pm Monday through Thursday. I assume that past attendance figures show that the majority of attendance is in the evening and it's not worth opening until then.
  13. For some reason, I really like the clouds in this one.
  14. Most of us on here are not the target audience for Stricker's Grove, but it's still a fun park for a price that's hard to beat. Glad you had fun! After adjusting that hole for the five-stroke maximum (which we enforced during our little competition) listed on the back of the scorecard, you would have a 52, which would have beaten me by one stroke. I had a 53 that day. Despite this, I will continue to keep the gold banner in my signature until October, because yours is a practice round and practice rounds don't count. Come October, BRING IT!
  15. And avoid odd fonts, small sizes and colors with little contrast. Some of us are on mobile, some are older. It would be nice to actually be able to read your posts without having to hit the reply button. Fancy is not better. Or not. I believe that specific combination of font, size, color, and background results from copying and pasting from the default (KICentral) theme under certain circumstances. I, however, cannot reproduce it on Firefox/Windows 8.
  16. Adult and junior Gold Passes are only the same price during the fall sale. As soon as the fall sale ends and prices go up for the first time around the beginning of November, there is a difference between the cost of an adult Gold Pass and a junior Gold Pass (both, however, more expensive than the fall sale price). At least that's the way it's been in the past few years.
  17. I'm glad they're doing all this stuff for charity. I'm beginning to wonder if they're aiming to break the world record for most world records broken by a single amusement park in a single season. (Not that that's a bad thing, mind you... )
  18. With what money? I'm sorry, I like their ideas, but I just don't see it working. They plan to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, but given how much they owe in taxes, I suspect (without knowing how much they have in assets) that creditors will move to force it into Chapter 7. (IANAL, of course.) I will be thoroughly surprised if this park ever operates again under the same owners after this season.
  19. ...except the hours will only be shortened on Saturdays, when most teens would prefer to sleep in the next day anyway. The already short Sunday hours will remain the same through the end of the season.
  20. I believe he's referring to this thread, which was reposted under Coming Attractions (and probably ought to be locked there as redundant).
  21. Great report! You're making me want to go back. It will be at least September 2015 before I can, though (but it very well could be that month!).
  22. The fact you've ridden only one goes far in explaining why you like it. In my opinion, it's the second worst in America, better only than the aptly named Apocalypse at Six Flags America. What does that have to do with the fact that I find it to be a better coaster in general than the vast majority of coasters I've ridden? As of June 2012 (the last time I updated my coaster rankings on my profile page), Mantis was my #4 steel out of 24. Having ridden other stand-ups would not change the fact that I ranked Mantis (and still rank it) above major rides like Diamondback, Raptor, and Magnum, nor would it change the fact that I simply enjoy Mantis. Enjoyment of a ride is independent of what other rides you've have ridden. Or at least for me it is.
  23. Nooooooooooooo. I love Mantis just as it is. It's one of my favorite coasters, and the only stand-up I've ever ridden. I really, really hope that they don't convert it to floorless.
  24. Being discussed here: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php/topic/29980-arcade-in-coney-mall/
