Top Thrill Dragster Incident
SonofBaconator replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I thought so too. It’s similar to how Top Gun became Flight Deck. I think they’re assuming that people will still call it Dragster and they’re just trying to keep a familiar theme. Personally I would have went total rebrand and left out anything tying into high speed cars- but then again, maybe this won’t be themed to cars. -
That’s rare. Typically one train/ 3 car operations happens when they only want to staff one conductor per train. Since the train ride goes through tighter curves, you need a conductor on each end to oversee the whole train- the first 3 cars are supervised by the front conductor and the last 3 are supervised by the back conductor. I rode last year with 3 car ops once but I believe it had rained earlier that day. Typically you will see 3 car ops when the park has lower attendance like weekdays before Memorial Day weekend. They only used to run 3 car ops in the fall because the old Haunt platform could only accommodate 3 cars. Sounds to me like they were operating at the bare minimum. I’m not sure how hard it is to find one more person to supervise the back half of the train to allow 6 car ops but I’m not a scheduler.

I thought so too at first but I think people are more worried about what happens down the road of attendance drops further. You close rides early to save money, less people show up/stay at the park later in response to having less options, you close more rides and food stand early because there’s not enough guests to justify keeping them staffed, and the cycle continues.
-
And they probably still pay $5 for a milkshake

Imagine, for a moment, that malls are thriving. There’s a food court that has multiple different options- all owned by the mall. After a while the mall starts to close down a few food stands early. So what happens? Less people show up to the mall and less people stay in the mall after a certain time which in turn prompts the mall to shut down even more stands.
-
I understand the logic behind some rides but at the end of the day, people are paying admission to be in the park- rides should be open. I’m sure someone will make the excuse, “you’re not paying to ride the rides, your paying to get admission into the park.”

When stuff starts to close, it becomes a snowball effect

I’ve worked for two different parks in the chain and I was always told that attention to detail was everything. How can management stress attention to detail when the chain allows posts like this?

I meant a Zamperla train

Like @BeeastFarmer said, for FoF it would make sense because of its popularity to keep it running smooth for the next decade or so. BLSC is also a popular ride with the families so if you completely retheme it, I could see the benefit of LSMs, unless they replace it with a modern LSM family. TL;DR, both coasters are popular and it wouldn’t hurt if Zamperla could “RMC” our launched coasters.
-
LSMs and updated trains mainly.

If Zamperla Dragster is a success, could they fix up our two Premier coasters?
-
Would you have thought differently if we received, say, Dominator? It seems we were destined for a GL relocation in some form or another.
-
If they’re flat rides, no. I don’t even mind cloned coasters if it’s a few and they’re a certain size. For example: I don’t see the harm in 4D freespins as they’re the boomerangs of the 2010s.

I’m going to play devil’s advocate for a second. With regards to Planet Snoopy, the dry rides that would be closing early are all in the back corner: I personally don’t see this change as a huge loss for parents. By 9pm, I think the little ones who ride Beetle Bugs, Peanuts 500, Snoopy’s Junction, and the off-road rally will already be tired.
-
I wonder if Zamperla Dragster is a success, will the chain make them their go-to for launched rides? I’m surprised we haven’t heard any rumors about another Mack after Copperhead Strike.

Could the World Cup have determined our future coaster?

Not a soccer theme. What I’m saying is Cedar Fair planning to give their parks a new attraction at the same time a huge event is happening in the metropolitan area. To give you another example. Let’s say it’s announced that the World’s Fair is coming to Toronto in 2027. Do you think Cedar Fair would take advantage of this and chose 2027 to be the year they give Wonderland a new coaster since they know that region is going to see a lot of people already? Basically planning your asset installations based off of local events in attempt to get the most attendance possible for that season. You’re already planning on giving your parks rides, you’re just planning them a little bit more strategically. -
I think B&M truly classifies their coasters based off of their trains. If you go by the trains on Orion, Fury, and Leviathan, then they technically would be hypers. When Cedar Point put different trains on the now defunct Mantis, it went from a standup coaster to a floorless coaster. In theory, if you put surf trains on Diamondback, it will technically be a surf coaster, and so on.

In 2026, the United States will be hosting the FIFA World Cup, which hasn’t happened since the 90s. At one point Cincinnati was on the ballot to be a host city but ultimately we were scratched. With that being said, if Cincinnati were to have gotten the go-ahead to be a host city, would KI have gotten a coaster to take a vantage of the event to boost attendance for that season? It’s possible that we might already be getting a coaster in 2026, but my question is, do you think outside events like the World Cup could influence a chain’s decision on which parks to invest in for a particular season?

I wish we had a 4d freespin because they’re basically like flat rides in my eyes
