Discussing Land and Space in and around Vortex
SonofBaconator replied to Klabergian Empire's topic in Kings Island
@MrSourNinja I have a concept: a dive/floorless Imagine a dive that features 6 seats instead of the traditional 8. This would allow for regular B&M track which would same some money. You'd have the dive aspect with the 90° hang over the drop but with the standard spine you could incorporate more inversions. For example, imagine Kraken or Dominator but with 3 row 6 seater dive trains, a holding break and a 90° drop. Just an idea I had. Think Valkyria with twice as many inversions -
Cedar Point 2020 Discussion

I didn't feel like staring a new thread. These are two concepts Cedar Point should definitely look into this decade. -
Which CF Park had the best decade?
SonofBaconator replied to SonofBaconator's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I wonder what parks will come out on top for the 2020s. We know the top 4 will be taken care of. I'm more interested in the mid tier parks. Will Kings Dominion get out of their little slump and add more reliable coasters to combat BGW? Will CGA ever get that hyper and emerge as a premier California park? Will Knotts get a larger scale coaster to keep them relevant in the southern California market? I think there's a lot of potential for these parks this coming decade. -

They're reliable -
I'm not an expert on Six Flags so take what I say with a grain of salt. I know they're not in the best financial shape yet I hear people say they're doing better than people give them credit for. All that being said, I don't know how they're going to look after this pandemic. I don't think any chain will be in the market to expand their park roster, however they might be given an opportunity that they can't pass up. As mentioned by @malem Adventureland has been offering free admission for Six Flags and Cedar Fair pass holders recently so they might be looking to sell in the future. Going back to Six Flags, I don't know what parks they'd be willing to give up that Cedar Fair would want. Parks like St. Louis and Georgia aren't too far from Worlds of Fun and Carowinds but the overlap might hurt attendance. (St. Louis and Kansas City are about 5 hours away so the overlap might not be as bad as Charlotte and Atlanta.) You can also throw Discovery Kingdom in that overlap discussion. To be honest, the parks that Cedar Fair would want would be the one's Six Flags would want to keep: Magic Mountain, Great Adventure, Great America, Mexico and Fiesta Texas. I don't see Cedar Fair having any interest in Six Flags America, La Ronde, Darien Lake, or Frontier City. Over Texas is a toss up but I don't see Six Flags wanting to get rid of their 1st park. The only park I could see both chains agreeing on would be Six Flags New England. The issue with acquiring any Six Flags property though would be the IPs. I'd argue any Six Flags park under Cedar Fair would look bad for the first few years because the transition from Warner Brothers to original IPs would take time; they'd pretty much have to start off with a blank slate and build off of the shell of an existing park. All this being said I think Cedar Fair might be more interested in a park that doesn't have all the IP's; something that would be an easy transition for them where they could incorporate their brand seamlessly. Parks like Adventureland, Mt. Olympus, and Silverwood would be more up Cedar Fair's alley than any Six Flags park in my opinion.

While Ferris wheels are cool, I don't know if one will necessarily work at our park. It looks great at Cedar Point but that's because you have the lake to view and it goes slow enough to allow people to get a good view. The only place in the park I think a ferris wheel would work would be if it was flushed up against Coney Mall. It would be nice for the older guests to have something new to enjoy but I just look at it from a capacity standpoint. The Ferris Wheel in Cincinnati worked great because it fits in well with the skyline in the background. I don't know, while they look nice I just don't see us getting one, especially one of CP's size but I'd like to be wrong.

On a slightly unrelated note, I have a nitpick for BLSC. Why have the trains remained one solid color after the rebrand/detheme? It would have been cool if each car was painted a different color. For example one train would have blue, silver, and purple cars, the 2nd should be red, purple, and black, and finally the 3rd would be teal, white, and orange. With the park repainting The Beast trains it would be cool if they expanded this with BLSC. Another small nitpick I have are the street signs. Since the ride was initially theme to The Italian Job stunt track you had a lot of billboards that said "Hollywood" and such. I think it would have been cool if they would have changed the Billboards to reflect the region. Heck maybe local companies could have paid to have their brands on the billboard like the Reds, P&G, etc. Imagine paying to have a billboard in an amusement park. I know I've pushed for a retheme of Backlot Stunt Coaster to something to reflect the wild west but I think seeming a ride to the region of Cincinnati would be just as cool

They could go back to KD but the original route is all Soak City, WindSeeker, and Apple Zapple land now. They'd have to build over the old Dinosaurs Alive area and go straight back. Unfortunately it wouldn't make sense. Its a shame Paramount left it go to waste but from what I've been told, it was losing popularity by the year since it didn't serve as a transport ride. -

Its a shame what's happened to #4. That would give Tampa both Kings Dominion locomotives. I personally don't like how they paint their engines though. If you look back at Chapter 1 you can see #601 looked way better in dark blue. I feel like they'd butcher the look of #552. -

I wish KI had an extra stall in their roundhouse so we could take it. #552 is my favorite Crown locomotive ever built. -

Levi's purpose at the park. Does WoF need 2 locomotives? Dry Gulch wasn't too far away from Kansas City so I could see them wanting to acquire a Crown locomotive so close. -

They only have a 1 stall shed. I wonder if they were planning on expanding or what. I feel like Levi is going to be a permanent resident at WoF and I don't think they'd ever sell Eli. @MillenniumforceMike what are your thoughts? -

What's wrong with Eli? It just got a repaint recently. Are they just trying to become a two locomotive park? -
@Hawaiian Coasters 325 give me that styled que but have the ride take inspiration from X-Flight and that would be perfect

Discussing Land and Space in and around Vortex
SonofBaconator replied to Klabergian Empire's topic in Kings Island
That's why I never counted a floorless out for a potential Vortex replacement. The park could easily break both Dominator and Superman's records and be THE floorless coaster. "Kings Island has the world's tallest, fastest, and longest floorless coaster." The stats would be easily marketable and could give traditional loopers and floorless coasters like Kumba, Medusa, and Kraken a run for their money. I'm not an expert on what could go in that land however. It could be a Mack, it could be a B&M, it could be something completely different. Floorlesses haven't been built ground up in the US for a while since everyone hopped on the bandwagon in the early 2000s. If KI got one I think it would be something special. While other parks experiment with new and prototypical coasters, KI would go back to the basics. I know there's still a decent number of members who would have preferred us to get Dominator over Firehawk. This is my personal hope to just take it with a grain of salt. -

I made my last entry in June but people are more than willing to submit pictures and contribute! I really want to see more pictures of Levi since its an old KD locomotive. I honestly hope it looks like how it did back in 1975 -
Not to nitpick but they should've renamed it back in 2012 when it got repainted. It would've made the transition even cooler when Banshee and The Bat debuted 2 years later.

Its been over a year since the last entry on this thread and I'd like to try and keep it going if I could. I'd be super interested in the idea of adding a break run with a show scene before the 1st lift hill and/or expanding the final tunnel over the transfer track like Mystic Timbers. Like I've mentioned previously, I don't know how feasible something like this would be but I always welcome more elaborate show scenes on rides. The additional mist, sound effects, and lighting would also be welcomed.

Since nothing has been addressed about the arguments that have been made the past few hours over multiple threads concerning credibility, I'd like to formerly apologize. I'm obviously the minority who likes stuff fact checked and sourced properly so I can learn more about the industry and have something else to learn about during these crazy times. I'm sorry that I didn't take certain users on their word because they obviously know much more than I ever will. Again my apologies. -
Orion is an awesome coaster but I wonder if they ever considered adding a tunnel to enhance the experience. I remember Leviathan's tunnel was a last-minute announcement. Whether they had already planned on adding the tunnel from the beginning and just waited or not is beyond my knowledge. I agree with @TombraiderTy that tunnels ultimately make the experience better, even if the ride is already awesome. I wonder what people would think if Kings Island ever felt like adding a tunnel to Orion down the road. Its not something to read into at all, just an observation.

What if this project was already scheduled prior to the 2020 pandemic? Also the company isn't coming out of the pandemic, they're very much still engulfed in it. A dead end road might not make the park money but it might help transport dorm employees like @Hawaiian Coasters 325 said. Employees could get to work quicker, less tardiness excuses, less of a distance to walk overall, etc.

Oktoberfest in Oktoberfest during Oktoberfest
SonofBaconator replied to SonofBaconator's topic in Kings Island
This. Cedar Point has a Brew and BBQ event in the Frontiertown section around July. Its pretty cool, you have a ton of different vendors and flavors to try out. It would work well along the stretch of path between Diamondback and BLSC. -
Been thinking a lot about the Crypt building recently. Is it an eyesore? Yes. With that said, however, I think demolishing it would have a lot of lost potential. I think the wild mouse idea wouldn't be bad idea. The Dark Knight coaster keeps coming to mind and KI could easily do something like an abandoned mine shaft like Mystery Mine at Dollywood. I think KI needs more indoor attractions and while wild mouses don't have excellent capacity, it would give us another indoor attraction. Heck you could even have indoor and outdoor sections like Mystery Mine if they wanted. The outside could get a wood facade or something to give it that mine shaft look. I don't know the feasibility of building a coaster inside an existing building that was designed for an entirely different ride, but I think tearing the building down without exhausting all other options would be a waste in my opinion. On a side note, I'd love to see KI get a more immersive dark ride styled coaster in general, whether it be like Mystery Mine or Blazing Fury from Dollywood.
