Cedar Point offering Gold Pass for 2020
disco2000 replied to Oldiesmann's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
It will be interesting to see the net result of this option in both revenue and attendance. Many people in the area only go to Cedar Point but purchase the platinum pass for the free parking. These people will now have a less expensive option for 2020. The gold pass at a lower price point than the platinum may entice new passholders that didn't want to buy a platinum pass just to go to Cedar Point. From a revenue standpoint, they need to roughly get one new gold passholder for every platinum passholder that downgrades to the cheaper gold pass option or they lose money on this option. However from an attendance standpoint, every new gold pass sold is a bump in attendance numbers. Lots of other factors come into play here, but in theory this could turn into less revenue with a bigger attendance number...per cap spending will be telling next year... -

And WKRC has been scrolling all morning that it is a giga coaster because they are announcing it on National Roller Coaster Day..um that would be tomorrow... And a lesson for the young and impressionable (and reminder to all)....just because the news reports something doesn't necessarily mean it is factual or completely accurate - even more so when it is a topic the reporter has no background information on and is simply relaying what is told to them and may accidentally leave out a key word because they do not understand the topic they are presenting on. Last year many media outlets were reporting Steel Vengeance was the tallest roller coaster in the world and it isn't even the tallest roller coaster at that park...small details matter and missing the word hybrid made the story inaccurate and leading to misinformation being spread by those not familiar with amusement parks. And in today's world of social media, everyone is now a reporter but that doesn't mean they are accurate...

Without saying too much...if you knew the backstory you wouldn't be bragging about sending him info....
-
The park is busier today than it was yesterday...
-
It happened and they were sold on eBay....do a search under Banshee opening day on this forum to find out more...
-
Steel Vengeance trains are officially named; workers have unofficially named Mystic trains lol
-
There are a few with restrooms with urinal dividers at KI...by Banshee and Hanks are two of them...sounds like a scavenger hunt to me

^They eliminated the QA/QC department since this site does it for free

It was a lightning strike ... #whoops double post!

Actually there are six in the world....well eight if you are strictly going over 300 feet...but currently six complete circuit giga coasters in the world...
-
Actually the strobe on Drop Tower hasn't been operational since June 15th....

No problem, this forum doubles as an educational site to learn from senior members and those in the industry...just think you have been learning all summer while out of school!

You obviously have not had to cost out steel... Steel in 2014 (when Fury track would have been made) was $650 per ton and is currently going around $830 per ton...had Fury been announced for 2016 and thus track would have been built in 2015 it would have been $460/ton...just think it may have been Fury386 then! Moral of story - steel prices adjust substantially year to year based on supply/demand...

Cause they couldn't go to everyone they sent to and put tape over something

Well 7 Cedar Fair parks have had a Halloween Cirque show called Skeleton Crew that have had long successful runs at 6 of these parks except Kings Island...ours lasted one year before Hot Blooded returned... Fun fact, a couple of the performers in our show where in our version of Cirque Imagine... And because someone will ask, Skeleton Crew is put on by the same group that has done our Cirque shows... Because someone always races to be the first to create a thread about something, which is why we have Winterfest 2019 Thread somewhere and a 2020 ride prediction thread somewhere too LOL... Surprised it took until January for the Haunt 2019 thread to start TBH

Looks like lucky Twitter winner wins a copy of each poster...

One wonders if a smaller than anticipated signature count will be taken into consideration for future costs of rides...or how much teasing for future rides...
-
I do wonder how many people that say they would like an RMC Beast or Timbers or this or that other coaster have actually been on an RMC coaster! Without saying too much, I do suspect future RMC projects that take place on existing coasters will not introduce all the elements like we have seen them add to existing coasters...so a Beast RMC'd would essentially be the same layout and configuration on a different style track... Now a ground up RMC on the other hand would bring in the elements people expect/want to see on an RMC...

Blue is giving red a head start since blue is faster as evidenced by the higher g-forces than red

Carowinds testing mobile ordering
disco2000 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I took this picture early June but forgot to post it, but yes it is a very basic pre-order process and I saw nobody use it... -
The teaser tagline if they tie it to Apollo 11: That's one small giga for a coaster enthusiast, one giant giga for Kings Island!
-
Just keeping in the "reading too much into it" spirit of what most do in this thread lol
-
Nah..another entity has the NASA/Apollo IP license Plus Apollo 11 was groundbreaking with lots of firsts...this coaster not so much....so why would the park want to risk that contradiction to ruin the announcement... Our coaster isn't the Moonshot as the drop is a larger distance than the lift distance
