  1. Apparently no more screaming on rides in Japan theme parks to keep out the corona....bet the KI neighbors would love to see this added to the policy https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-53344447
  2. And then you see articles like this with an outbreak at summer camps. This place does have day camps and overnight camps and there isn't a readily available breakdown on from which camps, but if it can spread in this environment, why not in school? Certainly puts things like DC trips and other overnight school field trips into question. https://people.com/health/missouri-summer-camp-sees-dozens-infected-with-coronavirus-as-outbreak-raises-safety-concerns/ https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/08/us/missouri-arkansas-summer-camp-covid-19-trnd/index.html
  3. ^Plus, they have to save all their nickels to pay back the One Billion Dollar note they took out earlier this year that is due in 2025 or risk losing the parks.
  4. And for good or bad, our freedom mentality is why the US contact tracing will fail miserably. Most people will forget they made a stop at a 7-11 or something or will flat out lie if approached for a verbal recollection of where they have been in the last 14 days. Meanwhile, whether people want to acknowledge it or not, we are already being tracked by whatever mobile device you own and cellular carrier...and I doubt it is really anonymous : https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/04/tech/location-tracking-florida-coronavirus/index.html https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/news/hsph-in-the-news/tracking-covid-19-with-cell-phone-data-while-safeguarding-privacy/ https://variety.com/2020/digital/news/google-releases-huge-trove-of-data-tracking-user-movements-during-covid-19-crisis-1234570096/ https://support.google.com/android/answer/9888358?hl=en https://www.westernmassnews.com/news/government-agencies-now-tracking-phone-apps-to-fight-against-covid-19/article_d150cbe8-b1a4-11ea-8d97-c79ae97a1f99.html https://www.governing.com/security/Phone-Tracking-in-Michigan-Sparks-Privacy-COVID-19-Questions.html https://spectrum.ieee.org/the-human-os/telecom/wireless/facebook-google-data-publics-movement-covid19 https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2020/04/apple-makes-mobility-data-available-to-aid-covid-19-efforts/ https://abc6onyourside.com/news/coronavirus/cell-phone-data-used-to-track-covid-19-1
  5. I would assume in this instance the subpoena would be to obtain the data related to one's mobile device, which more than likely has a history of where someone has been...pings off cellular towers, etc. as that is the only true way to contact trace... Most people are not going to remember where they were at 2:45 last Thursday or whatnot. The ability to create after the fact a "diary" of where one has been when and where based on memory will certainly not be very reliable. Now whether a judge would grant it for contact tracing for random Joe would probably be tough. Now someone that is known to have it and flagrantly disregarded the protocol and went on vacation, flew in an airplane, and posted all their adventures while known to have it may be a justified subpoena.
  6. Let's compare and contrast how Asia is dealing with contact tracing versus USA... My friend lives in China and has been keeping me up to date and sending photos and links along the way. So let's compare how China and USA are dealing with contact tracing. You are required to have an app and submit all your data to this app that is tied to your ID card, where you live, where are you have been, etc. When you go into any store have to scan this to show them the details. Use a taxi, scan the code. In China there is no private data. Hundreds of people have been put into prison because of not accepting the isolation. The US would never do this. People claim big brother and what not, but the reality is, if you have a mobile device, you are already being tracked…. They all wear face masks in public. To go anywhere you need to go thru multiple checkpoints. Those people with arrows pointed to them are not police, they are temperature takers. Once you get past those checkpoints, you will come across thermal cameras at individual stores that will alarm if someone has a high body temperature: They are basically tracked of their every move and scan in every place they go and then their personal data is used to sort individuals into color-coded categories – red, yellow or green – corresponding to their health status and level of risk for COVID-19 based on where they have been. Some places will only allow you in if you are in the Green category. I doubt we would ever see that level of tracking here. But it would make it a lot easier to know who came into contact with someone.
  7. Well, he can flash his employee ID and tell them to wear it correctly
  8. I have said this before to people back when Coney made the announcement - I think the ownership believes that the land is/will be worth more as something else and that was the first step towards that goal. Could you imagine the immediate outrage if they had said they were eliminating the rides and building a second concert venue...or a casino...or make it a parking lot. This allows them to gracefully move to that transition. Then they will use the ole "Our market research showed that we could survive on just the water park and that rides were not a big attraction. Unfortunately consumer spending habits have changed and we have had to make the unfortunate decision to ...." At some point, the highest use value of land makes it more valuable as something else...look at several golf courses surrounding KI - as populations grew up there, the land became more valuable as something else than a golf course... I think there were other motivations for the closure...
  9. Worlds of Fun cut their operating calendar. Starting next week, they will only be open Thursdays thru Sundays. No reservations required.
  10. Ohio Governor Press Conference just issued order that counties red or purple based on new map will have to wear face masks indoors. Currently 7 counties including Hamilton, Butler, Montgomery, Franklin , Cuyahoga, Huron, Trumbull. He said if these orders are still in effect when schools start, that the previous school guidelines issued last week that masks are not required for students in school takes precedence over this new order...so kids over 10 years old required to wear a mask in Kroger that they may be in for less than an hour, but when they are bunched into a crowded classroom for over 30 hours/week a face mask is not needed....
  11. ^What is sad is that they are season pass holders that should obviously know better. I guess they feel entitled or something. But yeah, if they are hiding off into the bushes, they clearly know better. Revoke a few passes and let that circulate on social media and people will shape up...except for the totally stupid By patronizing an establishment, you are agreeing to their policies. And if people cannot follow simple company policies and/or berate the employees, then the companies just shut down or reduce their offerings: https://www.businessinsider.com/anti-mask-customers-force-some-restaurants-re-close-dining-rooms-2020-7
  12. Good thing guests don't touch the elevator button at KI... https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-jumped-between-people-via-elevator-surfaces-study-2020-7
  13. We hear a lot about these masks don't protect you and are to prevent the spread and you are doing it to protect others. That is true, but it is also providing some level of protection to the wearer regardless of which face covering. Directly from the FDA website: If worn properly, a surgical mask is meant to help block large-particle droplets, splashes, sprays, or splatter that may contain germs (viruses and bacteria), keeping it from reaching your mouth and nose. Surgical masks may also help reduce exposure of your saliva and respiratory secretions to others. I find it interesting that the FDA states first that they protect you and then follow-up with it protects others, whereas all recent covid stuff is putting a "spin" on it that we are wearing masks to protect others and many will say they do not protect the wearer... I would think that if a mask can generally stop most of what is coming OUT from a 10mph sneeze, then certainly if you are wearing a mask it would have to provide some level of protection to the wearer as well from some random floating covid blob in the air getting IN...now what the level of protection is not known, but I will take my chances that a mask does provide me as a wearer some level of protection as well, along with good hygiene habits. A big issue is they probably cannot market and promote the masks as protecting the wearer that way because of the litigious society we live in - they cannot guarantee it will protect you, so they disclaimer it like the picture someone posted earlier. It is just like bullet-proof vests are not really bullet-proof. The reality is that they’re actually bullet resistant. The reality is that bullet resistant vests don’t protect the wearer from every threat. Nothing is bulletproof, not even a manhole cover. In extremely minute percentage of cases, a bullet can get through a vest that’s been rated to stop them. The bullet could have a serrated edge or something similar to it. So does that mean law enforcement personnel shouldn't wear these vests? No, because it still can provide some protection. But those vests will have disclaimers all over them. Same with face masks...
  14. If only Stricker's Grove were open you may be able to talk them into it
  15. Do a search here, they were bashing Orion over ride PA systems after the announcement last year too... Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on what is being said), any announcements are just background noise to most people. I have been in a line where someone is smoking, or someone is sitting on a handrail, and an associate will make an announcement in the queue speakers calling out the offender and it goes unnoticed by the offending person. After the third attempt, when the employee starts addressing the person by what they are wearing too in an effort to get their attention, if I am close to the person I will tap them and be like "the ride op is talking to you over the speaker"... How many times are you walking by someone smoking and just then the "no smoking" announcement comes across the park speakers and they continue with their day as they didn't hear the announcement...
  16. @LuckyluvsKI is right, these are just the rides from the ITEOTWAWKI teaser posters....I guess that is an easter egg LOL.
  17. These will be the same kids bullying kids for wearing masks when school starts up since they are not mandatory for students in Ohio...I foresee a surge in school bullying...
  18. As an update, City of Cincinnati passed a mandatory mask policy going into effect July 9th for areas indoors in public or congregate settings, including government buildings, retail stores and on public transportation.
  19. And most professional drivers are under contract to a manufacturer....ever see Jimmie Johnson in anything other than a Chevy LOL
  20. ^The governor has the authority to require a county to wear a face mask. I think he has been so beat down and took so much grief when he first made masks mandatory and then rescinded the following day that he is afraid to go that route now. Maybe this new rating system will be his way to be able to justify masks in the future? If not, I do not know what value his new tracking system has to try to slow the spread, other than to maybe help cities in deciding to make masks mandatory. He mentioned the new system, but didn't mention any actions (or hint at any either) that would occur as communities moved into different levels. After his explanation of the new rating system, I was expecting him to announce mandatory masks for Franklin County and maybe Hamilton County and he didn't. A reporter asked him at what level would he make masks mandatory or would he consider shutting places down again and he didn't give a direct answer. It appears he is putting too much confidence in variations of what he likes to say - "I am counting on Ohioans to do the right thing". Unfortunately, until it is mandatory, putting together maps showing hotspots and making a recommendation that people wear masks will not put a mask on a large portion of the population. Personally I have seen mask usage drop every time I am out in public. I am sure most of you have witnessed the same thing.
  21. ^Perhaps if it were a "meateor" portion it would qualify for the meal plan
  22. Sounds like it wasn't widespread, which is good. But it is sad that season pass holders, that should know better, are doing that...
  23. I get the reference LOL...What do I get as bonus points
  24. Ohio operates as a "home rule" state, which means only the State and Cities and Villages can create laws and take action for which the Ohio Revised Code does not specifically give authority. Counties are not provided that same authority. Unincorporated areas such as townships with a population of more than 15,000 residents can apply for limited home rule authority. Many of the townships around major cities have implemented this. Power is limited and they cannot do anything that conflicts with the general laws of the State. Generally these are things more code related in absence of the County having a code for it - things like litter, fences, recycling programs, parking regulations, etc. Whether an unincorporated area could implement a mandatory mask would be interesting. They do have the ability to implement a curfew and regulate public gatherings, but that may be a stretch to say face masks in public falls under this category. I guess we have to wait for a township to try it and see what the courts say...
