Still don't know why everone was so high on the old TR:TR theming. It wasn't remotely even cool to start with. Not to mention the program was boring and uninspired. I thought it was a waste of time. I even remember thinking that these top spin rides must suck if they are all virtually like this one. However, I was pleasantly surprised by Texas Twister at Geauga Lake. The theming was cool, but it added zero to the ride experience, just like Tomb Raider. Except I wasn't forced to look at the theming nearly the entire cycle on TT.

Seemed pretty popular to me until the 77 incident. I liked/disliked it. It was a great view, but I can't stand that hanging feeling.

I'm really considering going to Beech Bend. But, it's four hours away and I'm not sure what else they have to offer. Wood: Beast Steel: Reserved for opinion of Diamondback Flat: maXair

Geauga Lakes El Dorado spotted at KD
KIBeast replied to Phantom Theater's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Yeah, I know. That wasn't the point. Show me where anyone stated that Sea World and the animals were not part of SF. -
If that's your goal in life, you sure aim low.

Geauga Lakes El Dorado spotted at KD
KIBeast replied to Phantom Theater's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I read the entire thread again and have yet to find anyone who said SFWOA didn't have an animal side. What I did read, however, is that a couple of folks mentioned Sea World selling off the animal side to SF. Just wondering where you got that. -
Did Gas Savings Come Too Late?

I think for the most part, more global demand is causing a good bit of this. Plus, we're not drilling for any new oil either. -
Great pics Thane! Personally, I can't wait until they get around to track placement, thought that is still far away.

No prob. Glad I could help. I am thinking that I learned about trim brakes from some folks right here at KIC. That and the warming up of coasters. Who says KIC isn't educational?
-
My best guess would be that it only seems faster at night. In the morning, especially close to opening time, it rides slower as it has not warmed up yet.

The point is to cause less stress on the structure (referring to wood coasters). The point of them on steel is to slow the train down (sometimes to enter elements) at a reasonable, not neck breaking speed. Would you really like to go through a loop, corkscrew, batwing, boomerang loop at speeds in excess of 70mph?

It is interesting that he left out the Cincinnati and Sandusky markets. I wonder, could it be that the guests in those markets have found other parks that are less expensive to attend, and allow more fun to be had? Since both Kings Island and Cedar Point apply trim brakes to their coasters to the point that they almost valley during the ride, and have obscenely high food and drink prices, maybe people are finally taking notice. I'm certain that people sit around and say, "let's not go to Cedar Point and Kings Island because of trim breaks." <G> I think that is absolutely the only reason I've NEVER heard anyone use for going or not going to a park. You are probably right, people don't sit around and talk about trim brakes directly. Most probably don't even know what a trim brake is. The point is, people remember how much fun a coaster was. Trim brakes take away from that fun. Let us suppose that you have two identical coasters at park A and park B, but the one at park A is trimmed and park B is not. Guests will remember that they had more fun on the coaster at park B. Back to the Bradys at KI, it should be an interesting day. I look forward to it. Seek therapy for your trim brake obsession. A ton of coasters use them and not that many don't. Guess you don't get around much.

It wasn't about what was worn, but more about who was wearing said outfits.

Trip to Kings Dominion
KIBeast replied to corn4ahead's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Never been to Kings Dominion. However, I know of one ride that is not to miss. Dominator, formerly located at Geauga Lake. You will love it. -
Yeah, but I love me some Halle! You get the idea, though.

Club Blood was very very bad. Had way too much sex stuff in it. Even the end of it was bad. Last years Haunt was bad. Had alot of complants to the park's managers and some of the workers went to far when it came to making jokes. I know that the KI Police was called in due to the parks guest's throwing stuff at the workers who was making fun of others. Surprised that the park wasnt sued over it. Crap, here we go again... No onr will sue KI over any of that crap. Don't like it? Don't attend. Not referring to you Uncle Henry, but Dalefan. It wasn't that bad as far as sex stuff in it. Heck, I really enjoyed it! So, did my wife (who was my fiance' at the time).

Geauga Lakes El Dorado spotted at KD

If the 100,000 is true, then you have a point. Steel Venom was worked on several times that I observed, so I would hardly call that left to rot. CF did admit that they underestimated the draw of the animals. However, Sea World dipped out when they sold it to SF. Many specualte (and are more than likely correct) that it was way too much money to feed and house the animals year round when the payoff was just mere months. CF was not the reason GL wasn't doing so hot. SF left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths and it obviously was not something that could have been easily fixed. You also admit that keeping some of the animals would have helped keep the ride side open "for a little while". Sounds to me like you concede that the ride side would have closed eventually, but maybe not exactly when it did. They built that awesome waterpark because waterparks draw families and to try and bring back some of that "good feeling" that GL had pre-SF. It worked to an extent, but it still was not enough. I'm finished debating about GL. The dead horse told me, "Hey! Wasn't I beaten enough when I was alive?" -

Are you sure about GL's attendance being up? From all I know, CF does not release park by park attendance figures. The only ride really left unfixed was Raging Wolf Bobs and that was in the last season. You also have to take into consideration that park's budget. They just don't tap other parks' cash flows to fix a problem at another. I know they have a maintenance budget, but we have no way of knowing what that was. -
Not to mention there are several re-used names within the CF chain and SF chain.

I thought we had beaten that GL horse to death already. I am saddened by GL's closure as well. It was a nice park that was too large for itself. And Geaugafan, CF did spend a lot on that waterpark, so it's not like they didn't invest. Just because it wasn't a coaster is no reason to be mad. The only thing I see wrong that CF did was not give any notice that GL was closing until after the season ended. It's over....move on. I'm kinda shocked that KD is getting El Dorado now instead of Head Spin. -
Great trip report! Sounds like you guys had an awesome time, other than the little bit of sickness. So, did you feel like a teenager again? By next summer, I'll know the feeling of leaving the little one at home while we play as we are planning a trek to include CP, KI and Holiday World. Not sure if I'll be able to stand being away from baby that long. Great pics too!
