Indeed, that is a concern. So is a six hour, ~400 mile one-way trip on a nonexistent budget. *sigh*

I keep seeing IndyStar ads for Kentucky Kingdom.. In Michigan. It's as if Mr. Hart were mocking me, which is just as well. Suppose I just won't make it out there any time soon.

I wish her grandmother the best. At least you're getting out of the house and enjoying the dining plan. What is your favorite meal that you've tried this year?

Accident on Alton Towers Smiler
jsus replied to Bennett's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
The money will help her live her life as she will now have a much more difficult time providing for herself. That said, as has been mentioned, this will stick with her for the rest of her life. When they say life-changing injuries, they mean it. There will be things she can't do. She will likely have PTSD, meaning she'll relive the accident. For a long time. It's not pleasant, and it's certainly not peaceful. The money will help her live her life. It won't erase the pain. She would be much happier indeed had this accident never happened. And it certainly should not have, thus the likely compensation amounts. One can only hope that some major lessons will come out of this accident that will be used to only further improve safety across the industry. This should not have happened. May she receive compensation necessary to live a comfortable life, but yes, no amount of money can bring back your natural leg and erase the memories. -
If we're going with things our parents have said, I have a couple from my own (biological..) father. Raptor: "That scary green thing!" Top Thrill Dragster: "Your head will fly off! See, your brother had to have his stitched back on." Some parents are less encouraging that others, and this is the parent who brought us there..

^^ As far as I know, they all have the rescue basket apparatus. Kings Island's is right behind WindSeeker; if you look closely here, you can see the yellow truss and silver basket.

That also means that he thinks his park was ranked above Fury 325 and Thunderbird.. haha.

This is about the time I make the observation that the list is not, unlike what Mr. Hart believes, in any particular order. It is not ranked in a way to say which park you should feel most inclined to visit. It's just a slideshow of parks.

I'm just gonna point out that this is BuzzFeed. They're not a source of news, or even journalism. This is the same site that has a lot of user-submitted quizzes that are nothing but a way to waste a ton of time. Take, for instance, one entitled "Can We Guess How Good You Are In Bed From These Random Questions?". Entertaining? Maaaaybe. Intellectual value? Not really. This is just another one of those lists that someone threw together based on random solicited input. Not a poll, just picking through Facebook comments. So, take it for what it's worth..

I wonder if they have plans to remove Iron Dragon (if the new ride is in fact a coaster).... hmm. *note - I am not the person to approve of removing rides just to remove them, however that ride is, and always has been, sorta dull and boring to me. The fact that Iron Dragon is tame and unexciting to you is exactly why it should stick around. Many a future coaster fan is made or broken by a tame first ride. The idea is to build up to more intense thrills rather than throwing a kid directly onto Top Thrill Dragster or Millennium Force. The only reason that "there are a lot of CP fanboys" promoting the idea of a dive coaster is that Sandusky Register claims to have come across a memo between Cedar Point/Cedar Fair and B&M. They've never provided any evidence of this (that I'm aware of). Further, it sounds more like a response to an RFP (request for proposal) than a particular concept the park was interested in. B&M could've even sent an RFP response for a flying coaster as well; we know not. Bottom line: it wasn't "CP fanboys" who came up with the idea. It was Sandusky Register, what many view as a less-than-reliable news source. Hmm, I wouldn't judge a ride's capacity based on one park. Tatsu, for instance, has a theoretical capacity of 1600 rph vs. Millennium Force's 1300 rph and Banshee's 1650 rph. Firehawk is rated at 1,430 rph but is in reality much worse than that. Probably closer to Nighthawk's rating of 1000 rph.

^ Yep. Dunno about anyone else but as soon as I read it, it was clear that they were referring to the best parks to check out in 2015 - because of new attractions. Not because of the overall park.

Of the countless times I have witnessed riders on my train with loose articles (i.e. smartphones), only twice has the train ever been stopped. Both of those were on Adventure Express, and said guests had the nerve to have said devices out as the train was departing the station. Yep, we moved about five feet and then they stopped us. Not even once have I seen security waiting for one of these individuals. It does happen, I'm sure it does, but I do not have the impression that it happens nearly often enough. For those convinced that every ride op on every ride at Cedar Point will do a lift stop on every cycle, nope. It's very rare that I witness such a thing, and never when I was on the ride.

Now imagine a leveling of Cedars dormitories, the former Cedars Hotel..

FLASHBACK . . . Can Six Flags Survive the Economy?

Try Googling the article title. That might get you into it. "Amusement Parks: Can Six Flags Survive the Economy?" -

At least twice since visiting the Indy Star "article", I've gotten the following mobile ad. No mention of the tie to Indy Star until you tap it, but it's got the same IN residency requirement. And I'm still in Michigan..

Accident on Alton Towers Smiler

You can assume that dialing 999 will get you a pizza. You would be assuming wrong. Like Terpy said, in this case, your assumption would be correct. -
Jeez, Intamin can't even get a simple vertical elevator right.

I believe it's pretty clear at this point that it's only a timeline of all roller coasters currently in the park. The Roller Coaster Capital of the World is building out a timeline of its current lineup while highlighting what makes each of these machines, "these monuments of modern engineering", unique. The logical conclusion, then, would be that the next installation will be unique, something different. Maybe something that takes existing ride concepts out there to a new level. I'm still waiting for an LSM-launched flyer but I don't see that happening here. Not yet, anyway.

Oh Canada awesome new flume.

Dictation on a smartphone without reading what it spat out before submitting, mayhaps? -
Plus the value of the business as its own entity, something that they can't recover..

Cedar Fair (or at least Cedar Point) tried to switch to parking decals. It didn't go over well so they ditched that in favor of putting it on the pass in the system. I despise window stickers (bad enough I had two for high school). The pass works well enough, just a quick scan (or wave) and I'm on my way.

But the question is this: Did USA Today independently come up with that ranking, or did it come from a sponsored story written for the newspaper by Ed Hart himself? There have been several of the latter, including two in the Indianapolis Star, which is owned by the same company. At this point, I would not put it past Mr. Hart to claim superlatives in advertising based on his own vanity puffery piece. I have not seen USA Today's article, but the important thing to determine would be if were an independent ranking, or a press release issued by the park. Press releases by companies usually are just public relations tools. That would explain the advertisement in Nashville and Indy. I don't think they were "news" stories but paid advertisements. Whereas the claims about USA Today is being used by the park as an adversisement. The Indy and Nashville ads were exactly that, even linking directly to the 2/$29.99 promo hosted directly by the respective papers. I believe at least one of the "articles" explicitly started this.

All gold passes, presumably junior as well.

Plus, by listing them separately, you know if they're running both sides, only one, or none at all.
