  2. Having wait times outside of the park would hurt more than it would help. That's also why you can't really see how busy the park is from the web cams. And my understanding is that you must be in the park to see the wait times. That's also why Tony Clark is so insistent that something like the Dragster cam (from the top hat, facing the parking lot) will never return. Indeed, they'd rather you not know until you're there and it's too late to turn around.
  3. Nope... Mobile pages are still very limited in their content. It's rather frustrating, really. One of the major benefits of the original iPhone was that you could view the web. The whole web. As smartphones have become more and more ubiquitous, mobile pages have evolved from those little plain-text pick-a-number things on a dumb phone to a prettier interface of basically the same thing. Many apps are no better. To this day, I often find myself needing to force the desktop site to get useful information. Take, for instance, the profile page right here on KIC. You only get really basic info on the mobile page compared to the full page. Why? *sigh*
  4. So maybe the wait time thread will still be useful after all.. It sounds like they don't want you to see long wait times and stay home. On the flip side, locals might be inclined to make an extra trip on light days, if only they knew. Alas...
  5. You should be able to present one of the gold pass vouchers at the tollbooths on your first visit. If for some reason they won't accept it, the season pass center should be able to process a refund, so long as you obtain and keep the receipt.
  6. Nope, it doesn't take long at all. If you've purchased a pass online, you'll need to print out the voucher you received there. Take that to the season pass processing area at Kings Island; there are signs. You might have to fill out a quick form. They'll scan your voucher and a card, take your picture, have you sign the card, and you'll be on your way. The entire process is very quick these days, so long as there isn't a really long line. Renewals can be done online, too, so no waiting in line there. Can even keep the same picture for years.
  7. Don't expect enforcement to be any different on those paper coupons. They very may well have inadvertently omitted that line but attempt to verify proof of residency anyway. Given some stories we've heard this year, that would hardly surprise me.
  8. Proof of Indiana residency required? Yep, the intent is to boost out-of-state attendance while throwing revenue out the window. After all, there's an attendance ratio to meet. Funny that a Michigander / Michiganian is not made the same offer, however. Guess our attendance is not desired.
  9. It's also on a Cedar Fair-run Accesso site. Cedar Fair, thus, has taken responsibility for selling the tickets. In order to sell its competitor's tickets, they definitely need cooperation from BGW/SEAS. That said, it may well be that the tourism group came to the parks and offered this as a suggestion. Both parks, then, would have evaluated the pros vs. cons and determined it was beneficial to work together (likely after some negotiating).
  10. I don't feel guilty about doing things I enjoy, certainly not riding roller coasters. For instance, many claim that Gatekeeper is just totally boring and lame. I enjoy it. Because they don't, the lines are shorter for me.
  11. Corporate Planning & Design employs a team of graphic artists at the disposal of the parks. Unless said posting is for a lead designer, I wouldn't read too much into it. It could be a new position, a replacement for a departing employee, etc. Also, the logo may well have not been done in-house, depending on the abilities of the team.
  12. Honestly, I can't remember. Hah! I noticed it this year too, but it seems more unlike a cell phone tower, because it has several "boxes" on it....maybe part of the Wi-Fi infrastructure? That's what cell towers generally look like. Cell towers: https://www.google.com/search?q=cell+tower&tbm=isch http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cell_site The Wi-Fi access points (APs) for the KIGuestWiFi network seem to all be mounted in/on buildings. Below, one was found in the picnic grove, having become the home of a bird's nest. It's that off-white box with the curved surfaces. They're all over the park, as Wi-Fi doesn't exactly reach far from an AP, and it can be quite directional. See also: all four corners of the bathroom outside BLSC house an AP. If I had to make an educated guess, I would say that the tower in the maintenance lot by Planet Snoopy/Picnic Grove is indeed a cell tower. It's also got a generator next to it which I doubt the park would need for Wi-Fi. As it's a Generac, compared to the Kohler Power Systems units throughout the park (Banshee, Delirium, Diamondback..), that also makes me think the tower belongs to an outside company, one that manages cell sites locally.
  13. Having no understanding of the engineering of the ride, perhaps the motor is required to be present to in some way support the ride vehicles at all times. Just a thought.
  14. That's an entirely subjective question. Personally, Gatekeeper is the vastly superior one of the three. Others don't agree.
  15. I'm sorry? Come again?
  16. "Hey, a*****e, when someone's being nice to you..." Yeah, you don't sound very nice or friendly. Maybe that's why people are walking away from you. *shrug*
  17. Come on, have Hart! Hundreds had fun on opening day. The opening day that was really just a preview day.
  18. I had a similar experience at Cedar Point on Thursday. While I hoped for a typical light May mid-week crowd, that was hardly the case. Sigh.
  19. I sure hope so. If a single B&M train costs ~$1 million, an entire S&S 4D coaster better require more than $1 million to be operational.
  20. No... TR:TR was converted into The Crypt. It wasn't removed. Mantis was converted into Rougarou. It wasn't removed. Mantis and TR:TR are no longer. They were not, however, removed. They were converted into "new" rides.
  21. Where was the unlimited refills confirmed?
  22. Originality is way better but that's not going to stop me from riding. It just means that I won't necessarily enjoy the ride as much. Nothing to complain about, of course. A day at an amusement or theme park is better than a day at work, after all. Unless, of course, you're out of work. Then, you'll be sad that you can't go to work.
  23. They didn't rip out the ride, so they didn't get rid of it.I agree, however, that Mantis is no longer, as are the RMC rides. Even a simple re-theming, a la Calypso into Tiki Twirl, means that the original ride is no longer. The same structure is there, it wasn't discarded, but it is no longer identified by the previous name and theme.
