Accident on Alton Towers Smiler
jsus replied to Bennett's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
There are also some reports that guests (perhaps even those on the loaded train) noticed the valleyed train and attempted to alert the operators. Obviously, take all of this and bury it under several tons of sodium chloride. -
And without being consistently posted?

For anyone still under the belief that June 6th is currently the promised date, it's not. KentuckyKingdom.com now lists "Coming soon" rather than a specific date, likely due to the reactions to their repeated over-promising and under-delivering.

From KI's Facebook page as linked above (so, I'd say, yep):

Probably because Americans would take it seriously and nobody would ride it, or even visit the park.. -
Well, they're required to justify the park's subsidies through increased tourism, meaning they need to make it an attractive place for out-of-state visitors*. * This offer only available to targeted residents of Indiana and Tennessee. Some exclusions may apply. See security guard for details. It's a tourism program!

There is still a legal system in the UK and this would be anything but a frivolous matter. That's all I'm saying. -

It just keeps getting worse and worse. Definitely expect to see huge changes in the industry and huge lawsuits (or at least settlements). -

One wonders whether or not the train design had any impact in the severity of the injuries. There is no car 0 and riders in the front car are right at the front of the train. That makes it almost a given that their legs would be pinned between the two trains. It also explains why our riders took such a brunt of the impact. Contrast that with even an Intamin like Maverick that both has a car 0 and has what appears to be a bumper on the front (round) and rear (square) in the unfortunate case of a collision. -
They're also looking for votes for the final two selections. Source: https://www.facebook.com/visitkingsisland/photos/a.226729858367.174830.155893938367/10153855771943368/

^^ Indeed. Delirium cannot give you maXair because both are inanimate objects and maXair isn't Delirium's to give you.

There are two trains in the accident. Each has four rows. The front train was sent empty and seems to have stalled out. The back train was loaded with guests. It was somehow able to enter the block of the first train. How that happened is anybody's guess. -
Speaking of the $29.99 2-day admission, yesterday I came across an ad on some random site for it. As a MI resident, since it didn't say anything about Indy/TN, I thought I might actually be able to use it. Nope. It was a link to Indy Star's page. They assumed I live in IN?

Wow... how could something like this even happen with the controls / blocking systems? Just glad nobody died, even if there are some serious injuries. Hopefully everyone recovers quickly.- 226 replies

Presumably the inspectors are legally required to make themselves available in a reasonable timeframe, or as soon as possible. If so, to do otherwise would be impermissible.

1) Welcome to KIC! 2) Others may offer more suggestions, but I will say this. There's a drop-off/pick-up lot with its own driveway off of Kings Island Drive. You could get a pick-up there. Only bad thing is that you have to walk all the way across the parking lot to get there. Edit: Terp'ed yet again..

And yet, if such structures as roller coasters were designed to be perfectly rigid, they would likely experience even more metal fatigue. Keep in mind that if a ride is not permitted to bend and sway, it will ultimately snap. Why? Metal fatigue. Then there's Vortex shedding as occurred on Cedar Point's VertiGo, but that's another story.

Yes, you do need to explain because the way you make it sound is that bribery IS forcing especially when referring to a "punishment". Perhaps I am mistaken? When one says that something is much better than something else, that is an acknowledgement that they are different. Bribery/rewards/positive reinforcement is much better than force. Note the typically part; in other words, not always. Positive reinforcement encourages someone to want to do something. Force encourages resent, contentment, etc.
-
How did you read that from "bribery >> force"? Need I explain? It is better to teach a kid that there is a reward from trying new things, than teaching by fear of punishment or the like. In Terpy's example, as an adult, you now know to expect compensation for your hard work. Would you rather go to work every day not because you earn a paycheck, but because you are threatened? Intimidated? To your point, Terp, some things you should expect to be rewarded for, like work. Some things, not so much. If your spouse is ill and you make a late-night run for medicine, you shouldn't need anything in return but to know that your spouse will recover.
-
In moderation, bribery >> force. Just my opinion. And, just make sure not to train the kid to expect something before doing anything at all.

And, for a more realistic scenario, because a modern, properly maintained vehicle with a driver paying attention to vehicle and road can relatively safely go 93 mph on a properly maintained freeway.. You can also speed through wall-to-wall traffic, tailgating and cutting in and out of traffic, cutting other drivers off, sometimes attempting to merge right into them. You can do all this without the police ever seeming to care, despite this being significantly more reckless than one properly maintained vehicle going 93 mph on a properly maintained road, by itself. It's not true that you can't. Indeed, it happens way too often. Slow down. Back off. Safe following distance. Don't you want to get there alive? Sometimes it feels like I'm the only driver on the road who does.

Cedar Point Fast Lane discount

Indeed, all Cedar Fair platinum passholders get platinum perks to all parks. At Kings Island, gold and platinum perks are the same, to the best of my understanding. -
How does the restraint system work on the Firehawk?
