  1. Why, because the cost of re-branding? Also, was said relative a local?
  2. I only added the definition rather than add a new post. Doesn't sound like an urban legend. Sounds like the PR explanation, however invalid. I personally don't view PR stories, however invalid, as urban legends.
  3. It's not an urban legend. It's the official story of the park's EVP/GM at the time.
  4. Locals felt the same way when Cedar Point announced a new roller coaster by the name of Banshee. They ended up changing it just before opening day to Mantis. Fast-forward to 2013 and Cedar Fair once again announced Banshee at Kings Island. No significant outcry. The ride opened as announced. Also at KI, a haunted attraction by the name of Slaughterhouse. Really, slaughterhouse. And people are eating up this theming. Might they decide to back away from Valravn? Sure. But is there precedent for using names that traditionally would have been too controversial previously? Yep.
  5. I also like when ride ops dispatch trains with loose articles in riders' hands because they're oblivious, more concerned with getting trains out as quick as possible. Safety is job one? Maybe at Ford Motor Company but not at Cedar Fair parks during "power hours".
  6. If they "could really care less", that means they do care. At least a little. As "Weird Al" informed me.
  7. Thanks for the clarification. It makes sense but I'm surely no expert.
  8. Maybe. Honest. Only if the weather is so bad that a significant portion of the event festivities are unable to be held as originally planned. I wouldn't count on that happening. You'd basically need a freak tornado or all-weekend rainstorm.
  9. Nah. The real test will be peak season, with plentiful advertising, and how well it scales up to handle that load.
  10. Okay, maybe it's just this lovely "free" Wi-Fi network redirecting me. Carry on.
  11. Touché. Made in USA, you say? What is this blasphemy?
  12. Snoopy's Gliders? Did he steal them from Woodstock?
  13. I know how to minimize that head-banging! Swap out the OTSRs with the newer B&M style, like what they did for Banshee. Oh, wait, they went with the existing train design.. Because "too wide".. Because now will bang up my ears as much as ever.
  14. Ah, but can Terp where a new, unlaundered T-Shirt over top of a laundered T-Shirt?
  15. Redirects to Norton Connect Safe hosted at http://54.200.58.62/ After I get this: Edit: seems to be a much greater problem on Wordpress's side..
  16. The end of the night is a different case from the rest of the operating day. If there's room in the front row line, and people want to wait there (so long as it's not the majority of riders), let them. At the end of the day, at least at Cedar Point, they'll announce that they're only running X more trains and advice guests to fill in empty rows. That gets people moved quickly and nobody complains. Like you said, that's the risk you take waiting for front row at the end of the night. Some crews can hustle without giving the appearance of rushing too much. At least a couple times waiting for the back row, Millennium Force ride ops have been standing to the side, holding the seat belt, ready to start checking. Doesn't seem too impatient to me, just like they want to get us out quickly. Everyone can appreciate that.
  17. I'll take a stab at answering some of your questions, though my answers are derived from previous experience with Cedar Fair and not any official knowledge of CoasterStock 2015 at Kings Island. Much of this information should be made very clear at check-in. The parking lot should be open (toll booths may or may not be manned / womanned). There should be signs at the front gate to direct you to check-in. For an event of this size, I would guess that check-in will be at the far right end of the ticket area (group sales windows?). But again, look for the signs and the masses lined up. Presumably, yes, you'll exchange your event ticket for a lanyard (likely containing an itinerary), T-Shirt, and anything else they feel like giving out. They may give you park tickets or, more likely, will give you back the ticket printed from the web store to use at the gates and for the meal. Meal entry is one-time-only. At BeastBuzz 2014, we were given back the ticket to be surrendered at meal time (rather than scanning them). Adventure Express is located in Oktoberfest. Just a technicality. And, yes, you're free to roam but don't get too far as you'll want to line up 10 minutes or so before 11a to catch the tour. You may be admitted late, or not. No reason to chance it, though. That, and likely a lanyard with a laminated card at the end. Probably no more than 15-30 minutes. Depends how much of a tour it is. It might just be a simple walk down the concrete next to Ice Scream Zone outside of the dive loop. Or, it might take a different path and be closer to 45 minutes. Regardless, if you have a nice camera (i.e. DSLR), bring it. Get some great shots. It's worth it. That should be communicated during the check-in process. I would love to see the meals in International Restaurant. However, due to capacity reason, plan on Picnic Grove, roughly between Planet Snoopy and Soak City. They redid some of it this year, supposedly replacing asphalt with concrete, so it should be decent. Dinner at these events is generally buffet-style, so you just come in during meal service and eat until your heart's content. This by no means needs to last two hours, so you're welcome to come at any point, just make sure you leave enough time before 7:30p. Don't want security escorting you out.. Oh, and one more thing. Cedar Point recently started divided larger meal services into two separate groups. You may be assigned to the first or second hour, for instance. Pay attention to materials received at check-in. On Saturday night, yes. Technically 10:30p. At the ride. Line up. Marathon. Have fun. Again, it depends how they handle this. They may make it so that the ticket is valid for admission both days but you need meal tickets handed out at check-in. You'll find out.. at check-in. No need to apologize. It just shows that you're thinking things through in advance, even if you're over-thinking them.
  18. And what if you walked into a dino? We were discussing Dinosaurs Alive! as a whole, an interactive walk-through attraction where guests walk down a pathway and check out animatronic dinosaurs. Walking in would mean walking into the trail, or entering the trail. Walk-on typically refers to walking directly onto the train (or at least space above/below and then sitting down).
  19. Hmm, would Dinosaurs Alive! count as a walk-on or a walk-in?
  20. Um, Phoenix? Are we playing the "name random cities" game?
  21. And then there's my experience from last weekend (don't know if it was a "power hour", though). Sat down, started to pull down the OTSR, realized I forgot to affix my strap to my sunglasses. Got the strap out and started to secure the sunglasses. Op came around, shoved down the OTSR the rest of the way and fastened the seat belt. Cleared the train, while my glasses were in my hand. Had to put them on just outside the station. Really?
  22. It's to your right as you enter the gate building, before passing through the virtual turnstiles.
  23. It translates better with one of these: In real life, that translates to "creepy".
  24. Maybe the point is just shy, so it doesn't talk a lot. Who are you to judge?
  25. It's a Friday in May, which generally means the park won't be too busy during the day. In the evening, people will be off work and school, and thus may head to the park. Add in the ride night and a lot of them may decide to wait on the three ride night rides until the ride night, delaying the line until ERT. Just my suppositions and generalizations based on previous experience.
