King Kong Returning to Universal Studios in 2016

And I'm in the mood for french toast to go with those cinnamon rolls. Darn you! -
Exterior, yes. Room interior? Not so much. Especially when there's a switch right by the door. They're not leaving the light on *for you* if they're referring to the exterior lighting. They're leaving those lights on for everyone.

There is only one response I can conjure here: "Oh snap!"

If you're an environmentalist, you might not want to go to Motel 6. After all, they leave the light on for you. That's so wasteful; they should be ashamed.

My expectations and assumptions are not aligned. I assume that any information presented in the media is highly suspect at best. I expect, meaning that I believe they should, however, report verified stories only. Now, some stories will be little more than a source who wishes to remain anonymous, and so long as 1) that's made clear, and 2) the party about whom the story was written is consulted for comment, that's tolerable. expectation: "a belief that someone will or should achieve something" assumption: "a thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen, without proof"

On a similar note, and I'll try to get this from being too depressing.. My grandfather was essentially moved into an assisted living facility due to a stroke. He had lived on his own for who knows how many years in the same apartment. The management was given notice that he'd be out by the end of the month. Before that time was up, they decided to show off the unit to at least one prospective tenant and, in the process of entering the unit, some of his belongings disappeared. Only after repeated complaints and attempts to get the media involved did said belongings mysteriously reappear. Integrity? Ethics? Maturity? These concepts and more fail many people.

My comments regarding journalistic integrity were solely related to the usage of Intimidator footage/picture(s) when referencing Flying Ace Aerial Chase. However, one might argue there is an issue with journalistic integrity when rushing a story to the media without 1) making good faith effort to get comment from all parties involved, 2) making a big thing out of something minor that poses no threat to guest safety, 3) making any attempt to confirm the validity of the reported information... If I wanted to know what random people are saying on Twitter, I'd go to Twitter. When I go to the news media, I expect stories that have had at least some verification go into them. Deciding to run a "story" based on a couple pictures that people decide to post on social media? Where's the journalism? Angling a story? Again, where's the journalism? At best you end up with an editorial.

On the flip-side, for those of us farther out, this gives something to do Friday evening before heading to the hotel.

Arrow Development Company? Arrow Dynamics? Arrow Huss Inc? S&S Arrow? Or?

Oh, they can definitely make room, and kill the ambiance. It's just not as logical a conclusion or easy a decision for Cedar Fair to make as some other parks. They've already proven an ability to surprise us. Some (many, actually) mourn the loss of the old main gate building at Carowinds, believing that the new one has killed some of the ambiance there. There are others, however, who strongly believe that the new entrance is vastly improved, for myriad reasons.

And yet, I've seen people come back in pouring rain, having loved the ride. Apparently, rain doesn't hurt that much at 120mph, or you're just not at that speed long enough for it to hurt. Hmm... After launching in the rain, only then did the ride go down due to "weather". *shrug*

Vortex (KI), Mean Streak, Flight of Fear (KI, at least): I'd be like everyone else and say a park bench nearby, but that's such a waste of time. My preferred seat on those is the nearest other ride. Top Thrill Dragster (and by extension Kingda Ka) are rides you might wish to skip front row night rides on. The bugs, oh, the bugs.. Gatekeeper is presumably the same but to a much lesser extent, what with the lift on the beach and all. Wait, on the beach? So it's sinking? Thought only Magnum did that!

Could KI (and other Cedar Fair properties) finally be getting WiFi?

Panera, the worst? I've seen some libraries that would like to compete for that title. And those are modern facilities at most a decade old, in nicer parts of town. That only goes so far when you're playing by the carrier's rules. I've got truly unlimited data from T-Mobile.. except when it comes to tethering. There, it's only 3GB, which goes insanely quick if you're not careful. -

Indeed, presuming that the system is not in any way scaled up as its usage base grows and is not being throttled. For all we know, it could be set to max out at about 5 Mbps so people don't try streaming Netflix in line. Though, even that might be enough.. If one thing is a common theme I've noticed with "free" Wi-Fi, it's ridiculously slow speeds. Even a Panera that's dead can have ping times in the tens of seconds. Here's hoping that Cedar Fair's networks are actually usable. I won't get my hopes up, though, since even some cell networks around the parks get severely bogged down during peak season. -
Is supper quick for fast food standards or fine dining?

^ And to that, I say amen!

That's pretty good. Public Wi-Fi is usually about 1 Mbps down and about 0.5 Mbps up. Cedar Point is still the leader in public Wi-Fi speeds. When I stayed at Hotel Breakers for CoasterMania! in 2013, they officially didn't have Wi-Fi in the rooms, but I was able to pick up a strong signal on a public hotel network, presumably in one of the lobbies or meeting rooms. That connection was 37 Mbps down and 33 Mbps up. Fastest internet connection I have ever used in my life. You obviously haven't been in a school (at least in a large district) over the summer. I was once able to pull down something over 80 Mbps, I do believe, hard-wired. That was impressive, especially since it's barely usable when school is in session. Yeah, yeah, I know.. The bandwidth usually is divided up a lot, just got lucky playing around when it wasn't. -
You make a valid point there. Either ADA ramps (which would kinda kill the flow of at least one side) or a leveling of the floor would be necessary if those or other *steps* have yet to be taken.

Agreed. At this point, I think it'd be more likely to see a modern facelift given to the existing main gate building rather than a full replacement. While they could build a new structure that also had an elevated restaurant to replace IR, it doesn't really make sense. They did just put in an elevator to provide access. That, and what would a new building give them in this case? Without going into the parking lot or seriously rearranging all main gate buildings, where would a new coaster go? While that style of renovation made sense and works well at Cedar Point and Carowinds, I just don't see it happening at Kings Island. So, no coaster that a new building would have to interact with. While I like shiny new things, a little bit of TLC could probably go a long way here. Now, if only they would also modernize the inside of IR..

I will add that, while some of the queue music did not provide the best theming, I do miss some of it. Not sure what Hoobastank's "The Reason" has to do with Raptor, a bird of prey.. The song was released in 2003, 9 years after the ride opened, so it's not period. However, it does hold sentimental value as I remember listening to it while waiting with a certain girl who, for me, is The Reason. Then there's Maverick's queue that had a lot of cool country music. Now, I'm told to Let It Go.

And the family-friendly tale of a guy who wants to lazily lay in bed all day, only leaving to find someone to mate with, on the family-friendly revamped Gemini Midway! Wait, something about that doesn't quite add up.
