  1. N95 masks, as I said, filter out up to 95% of particulates. An easy way to picture that is to think of a very dense window screen. Pour 100 gallons of water on it. 95 gallons would not be able to penetrate. Papper masks are actual ventilators that filter out particulates. They are mechanical and cover the entire head and upper body (in my experience). They can be used when fit testing is not possible or if there is a physical reason why an N-95 cannot be used (beard). Surgical masks/standard masks are porous and prevent sputum and saliva from exiting the mask and onto a patient/incision. It's amazing to me that the Joint Commission has been silent. We can't have food at workstations or tape on the wall, but we can wear bandanas or paper towels as PPE. woo-hoo ride em cowboy
  2. All of the home made "masks" that are being made--worthless. An N-95 mask will filter out 95% of particles as small as a virus, and to be effective, you have to be fit tested. Wearing these home made masks is akin to trying to stop water from going thru a window screen. And how many people do you wearing a mask who have it pulled below their nose? And the folks wearing gloves--You go to the store with your gloves on. Every time you touch a package to examine, any part of the cart that isn't wiped down, the keypad on the debit machine, the plastic thing you put down to separate your items (not to mention the germs on the conveyor belt)….and then you touch your phone, your debit card, your face, your keys and your steering wheel. The gloves are simply a feel good measure like the home made masks are.

  5. At work today, several doctors were giving their opinion. For the healthy, as the virus spreads, it will be unnoticed or mild. Like with the vaccines for other things, this builds herd immunity. It's the outliers that are the most at risk. So while the isolation slows down the spike, it increases the time that herd immunity takes to build. But it helps to save the vulnerable. 7. Anyone else here feel a sense of mourning? I know it's just an entertainment venue, but I feel sad. Things were going so well for CF ( and my units). But these days will soon be behind us. As far as Coasterstock...if it is changed to a different weekend, I am out. My work schedule is set until August now. I'm hoping they will allow the tickets to be transferred to someone else. Hate to see them go to waste. I also hate to miss my first Coasterstock. [emoji26] Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

  11. I'm not familiar with DT testing, but I have a friend who works in a clinic and did 4 tests today. She gowned, gloved and donned an N95 mask for each patient. Best practice dictates new PPE for each patient. She's not just protecting herself, but the patients she sees after that one as well as co workers and family. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

  13. So by removing the national guard folks from the current hospitals will exacerbate the shortage in the existing facilities. I work in a large academic medical center and have teaching affiliations and several other hospitals and the national guard employees are few and far between. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  14. And when the current medical facilities are understaffed, who is going to staff the parking lot/hotel hospital temporary facilities? It's also time to have the conversation about health care workers being granted hazard pay. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  15. In the medical arena, "beds" refer to available rooms. That is why a patient might be in a (physical) bed, but might be boarding in the ED, PACU or even hallway until a bed (room) becomes available. Beds may take a while to open because someone died and a family is driving in to see the body before it goes to the morgue, or there isn't a housekeeper to clean the room, or the room is clean but nursing is short staffed so the floor is not accepting patients at the moment. 16. Large hospitals have become tertiary care centers. Smaller hospitals have become less crowded as more complex care has moved to the larger centers. As such, smaller hospitals may have the beds but not the staff. For nursing, there are only so many patients that can be cared for on a shift (ratio). Same with other providers...be it respiratory therapists, housekeeping (infection control), dietary, clinical engineering (maintenance of equipment) and equipment/supply chain management. It's not like the tv dramas at all. Doctors rarely do the things you see them do. Nurses are much more hands on and front line. All that to say...you can't just snap your fingers and have ventilators, blood pressure cuffs, thermometer probes, gloves, gowns, masks, food and most importantly STAFF appear out of nowhere. The steps being taken are appropriate but it takes time. Thinking otherwise is pure foolishness. Even if 500000 vents were to appear overnight, with a critical shortage of nurses and respiratory therapists, not to mention doctors, they will sit idle. The military and civilian ships are q good idea for port cities that have a huge population. I don't think anyone in their right mind would think they would be used inland. But again, you will not have people to staff what we have, much less what is going to be added to the strained system. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

  19. Based on stock/share/unit valuation alone, SIX, SEAS and FUN have taken a whoppin. "As a result, Six Flags now has the largest market cap of the three companies, at $1.089 billion, while Cedar Fair is down to a $982.6 million market cap, and SeaWorld is worth just $688 million." 20. None of us can accurately predict the future. But I would say that when the park opens, we should support it by spending money there (loosen up the purse strings and don't let this be a "my pass(es) get me in and I'm not spending a dime extra!" season)). Secondly, while this is going to have a large impact on Cedar Fair, they have proven they can be nimble. In the 2018 season, there were several bad weather days and people here were basically foretelling gloom and doom as the company acknowledged it and the share price fell. By adjusting strategies, the company ended the year breaking records and as a result we get Grand Carnivale. Who knows--a wounded SIX going into this pandemic may be a takeover target, or even SEAS, with their massive spending spree lately. I'd welcome the southern parks with open arms, would be a great mix to offset the northern parks that are closed.

  23. That is false and misleading, most likely influenced by the attention grabbing headlines on social media posts by WKYT and WBRB. What he said was that as of 5 pm, those establishments are to close done in options. They can still offer carry out, drive thru and curb side service as well as delivery. He even encouraged people to support these businesses and committed to doing so for his family at least three meals per week. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  24. Even if park opening is delayed until July, you still will have summer, fall an winter at the park. I personally don't regret buying my pass; it's a business but I have almost 50 years of loyalty to the park. Even if I only got one visit in this year, over the years it still averages to be a huge bargain. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  25. Who cares? I'm sure someone, somewhere does, but in my world, it won't change my outlook at all.
